You should have gone to a surgeon who uses more modern technology, like balloon sinuplasty. Really sad to see the " old school" surgeons still using this technique. Totally unnecessary.
He did well bless him! I practically passed out when i hadmine removed.I kid you not,it was almost 4ft long of gauze each nostril(England Nhs)I'd also had my tonsils removed at the sametime as my nose reconstruction (saved money and time for the NHS).
It was horrific to say the least. When i look back i wonder how i got through it,.
@ThatChristinChickk its ment i believe to not only soak up any blood but to most likely keep your nose from healing shut. just think about doing that but no gauze, your nose would be useless since it would be plugged up with tons of dried blood.
has this surgery done AGAIN yesterday...total removal of polyps "down to the bone" that had grown back. doc also fixed deviated septum and attempted to resolve the loss of smell which occured after the original surgery 2 years ago. staying on prednisone post surgery of longer this time per doc. going to get 4 strips of packing removed today. no fun. high as a kite on percocet. prepared this time for the freight train like pain i felt last time.
@proc5454 hope you're doin better man, honestly watching you bleed that much and then reading what the doc had to do, god honestly my nose started hurting. that all sounds like it was really painful.
hurt like hell.had septoplasty and laser cautery to inferior turbinates on the 13/01/12 .Still have numbness to the roof of my mouth and no taste buds and can,t really smell.Nose pain not much just feel the Stitches still...over here in the uk the best the doctors give me was sea water spray to clean my nose 5 days after opp.... best of luck i feel the pain
image guided endoscopic sinus surgery to remove polyps. if you search for 'How is Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery Performed?' here on you tube, there is a video posted by user kevin7484 that shows what was done for me.
I just had my packing removed. The nurse RIPPED it out like she was started a lawnmower. HURT LIKE H*&* and it made me pass out. NOT Fun at all and I still want to punch the nurse in the head.
@tink2725 i hear ya. unfortuantely i go back on feb 3 to have this surgery done yet AGAIN! ployps have grown back and i cant breate out of my nose unless i keep up on my daily nasonex which is bs. doc said he would "take it down to the bone" this time. :(
That looks bloody painful. I have to talk to my doc sometime about getting this done. I am 41 years old and have suffered with brutal allergies my whole life. Not to mention everyone around me. LOL I don't care about any post op pain at thia point, and if I ever get this time, I am going to get a vid done also. Hah...
@HaligonianType1 Trim your nose hair before any surgery like this. TRUST ME! Blood clot plus nose hair plus haven't to get this packing pulled = hell.

thanks again for sharing this experience I know people say ewe thats gross but for those who will experience it the video helps prepare what we will expect because the unknown is worse in my eyes. I hope the surgery helped you!
@lovesmcdreamy the surgery helped for a year and a half. i have an appt scheduled next month where im sure we will be scheduling yet another surgery. polyps have grown back. bad.
oh man you poor guy :( I live in Canada so my surgery is free ok I am going to ask him to do the gauze himself I could tell by your face how painful it is. You look like this tough strong guy but in the video you can clearly see how painful it is. I get severe sinus infection all the time so I need to get this done I am also having throat surgery to clear my voice because its raspy. I will have percocet for pain.
@lovesmcdreamy one last thing. since the surgery(almost 2 years ago), i have completely lost my sense of smell. he must have really gone to town up in there. :(
I am having deviated septum surgery on December 8th I am very nervous about it I was told the removal of the packing is the worst can u tell me pain wise what was it like my doc said I can do it at home which I am not happy about I am very sensitive to the smell of blood. How long was your nose pack before removal?
@lovesmcdreamy i highly suggest having your doc remove the packing. should be just a followup post-op free visit anyway. honestly, the packing removal was horrific for me. i had it done in two different visits/days. one packing strip was removed the day after surgery and can be viewed if you search for: Removing gauze packing post sinus surgery - 1. due to the pain the doc saw me from the first strip removal, he suggested i come back the following day to remove the final 4(2 at a time).
@lovesmcdreamy the first visit from Removing gauze packing post sinus surgery - 1 i had not taken any pain meds prior to the packing removal. big mistake. the second visit shown in this video i had taken 3 or 4 percocet's which put me totally out of it and did help with the pain. still, it felt like a freight train coming out of my face. good thing is that it only lasted about 2 seconds. just being honest here. good luck. :)
i had a headache and didn t realise i had this is my nose after a broken nose op, when the doc pulled them out i nearly fell asleep with joy as all the pain just went from my head
@wallysaruman I am a singer and though my voice remains the same, I find it difficult to maintain the echo in the nasal area in the first 2 months. Had to train to do it again. But i'm just an amateur singer so it's no big deal. but you should talk to the ENT about this first.
Holy crap. I dread going through something like this, but I feel like it might be in the cards for me. I suffer from chronic allergies and sinusitis. ::shudder::
I was in a very good children's hospital in and out for over a month from fractured nose lowest point 7.6 blood of 14. 7 surgeries and I was packed I think 4 or 5 times usually 6 ft gauge one time 12 ft I woke up one morning and my dad slept there and gauge was hanging out my mouth scary it doesn't hurt much to get it out it's just kinda scary by the way took a fastball from a baseball to the face I'm 15 happened 2 months ago
I got this done with no medication? They let me pull them out myself.. I literally pulled them out a mm at a time b4 i had to stop.. It took like 30min for each nose but it only hurt at the very beginning because its kind of stuck.. After that it comes out pretty clean.. Im so glad i got it, i can breath pefectly clear out of my nose.. bet feeling ever
i had the same operation and the gauge was more longer than that, it was so painfull, and unbearable stniky smell from the gauge make you like vomiting.
@EveTaniuska the polyps have started to come back. im taking nasonex to help keep them under control to where i can still breathe out of my nose. if i dont take the nasonex and a few days go by, i get pretty clogged up. at times if i blow my nose hard enough(gross as it sounds) i can blow them out. im a bit disappointed that i may have to go back for this procedure in the future but at least for now i can breathe. when you go in to get the gauze removed make sure you are heavily medicated!
@EveTaniuska i can tell that there is something still up in there at times but for the most part i can breathe out of my nose fine. ive lost 99% of my sense of smell since this procedure some reason...
@proc5454 yeah i agree, there's that feeling that something is still up there. one day i bought the nasal rinse solution again and kept on rinsing and blowing until a huge chunk of mess came out and this was nearly 2 months after the surgery. Even the camera didn't show anything stuck in it anymore so i don't know where it came from...
@proc5454 thanks for uploading the video. May I ask for how long you had allergies that caused the nasal polyps? Did you try anti-histamines in the mean time through out the years? Did your snoring disappear and finally did your sens of smell come back? Sorry for asking many Qs but there’s nothing better than getting some direct responses from a similar patient (rather than doctors)
@karimsatulhak i had signs of the polyps about 15 years ago. anti-histamines and other meds helped band-aid the issue but never solved the root(ha no pun intended!) of the problem. snoring stopped for about a year and no, i still cannot smell anything. sense of smell completely gone! now, its about 2 years later and the polyps have grown back and am having a very difficult time breathing out of my nose without nasonex or afrin. time for more surgery i guess. not looking forward to it! :(
@proc5454 goodluck mate. I hope they find a permanent solution to the issue. I know, nasal congestion is just annoying and effects your life due to sleep disturbance.
Wow, that was easy. After my packing was removed it took an hour and a half to stop the bleeding. But this was a second surgery for me, the first being tumor removal due to cancer. Those packs stayed in for two weeks. How fun was that? I hope all is going well for you .
Im scared. I'm getting polyps out and they're fixing my deviated septum. I keep wondering if I should back out because I know that surgery comes with risks. But at this point... I just am so sick of not being able to breathe in and out of my nose. Thanks for posting this *less than flattering* video so the rest of us could see.
your packing was not that big. Holy hell the one that was in my nose was just horrible. so long......... 3 weeks later and I can breathe like never before. Well worth it.
Man I feel your pain, I just did the exact same thing as you did, plus i had some stitches in my nose as well and can tell you one thing dude..... never again dude.....
I feel for you honey....my word, you looked like you were in such agony there. How is your breathing now? Are most (if not all) of your sinus problem subsided?
@javajunkie101 i can breathe perfectly! this surgery was a serious miracle for me. unfortunately i cannot smell much and not sure if i every will. i guess its possible that after so many years of not being able to breathe.smell i just lost that sense. im just glad that i can finally breath out of my nose. unbelievable...
@blingbling098 having the packing removed felt like a freight train being yanked out of my face. yes, it hurts like HELL!!! id suggest being totally doped up on percocets or something. good luck to you. :)
@basterdbart the day before this video was taken(Removing gauze packing post sinus surgery - 1), my doctor took out one of the packing strips. i had not taken any meds beforehand and oh damn...felt like a freight train rushing out of my face! the next day(this video) i loaded up on percocets which helped big time. i was totally out of it! im just glad that this nightmare is behind me and hopefully i will never go through this horrible ordeal ever again.
i feel urr pain i had this surgery 2 weeks ago and the worst of the pain ive had was when they removed the gauze packing lucky for you mine wasnt as quick as that the nurse kept stopping it was 3 attempts on one nostril and 4 on the other
i did not have packing in my nose, they just had me wear a bandage under my nose and let it drain. i had a turbinate reduction, cleaned out my sinuses, septoplasty, and got polyps removed. i broke my nose, just by running into a wall....ya. watch were your going.
@citybboydun the removal of the packin is the worst part of the ordeal...felt like a rabbid raccoon was gnawing its way out my face...was absolutely horrible. using a neti-pot afterwards helps flush out the blood clots...it worked great for me. good luck! lol...
@proc5454 removing the gauze is the worst part of the procedure. after that shit is out of there you should be good with exception of the big blood clots you will blow out for 2 weeks. ;)
Damn... Is it always this intense? I really am not looking forward to it after seeing more and more video's even though I want to get rid of my nasal polyps badly. This is just... horror.
@SevereThroatCancer recovery was a bitch but the procedure has made a significant positive impact on my life. im now verry very happy with the results.
@FlutterbyButterfly96 What? Seriously, they do use tampons for nosebleeds (frequently in emergency cases like football injuries) and in nasal surgery because of the shape and absorbancy. How does stating fact make me a douche? V.V
I have a deviated septum and sinus polyps and I have lost count of the amount sinus infections I have had. Instead of doing someting about it i ve been taking 10 to 15 mg of prednisone daily for the past three years. I was going to the specialist to have something done about it but after watching this I've decided against it. Thanks for the video.

@proc5454 yeah i agree, there's that feeling that something is still up there. one day i bought the nasal rinse solution again and kept on rinsing and blowing until a huge chunk of mess came out and this was nearly 2 months after the surgery. Even the camera didn't show anything stuck in it anymore so i don't know where it came from...
whygothic 6 months ago
@proc5454 thanks for uploading the video. May I ask for how long you had allergies that caused the nasal polyps? Did you try anti-histamines in the mean time through out the years? Did your snoring disappear and finally did your sens of smell come back? Sorry for asking many Qs but there’s nothing better than getting some direct responses from a similar patient (rather than doctors)
karimsatulhak 4 months ago
@karimsatulhak i had signs of the polyps about 15 years ago. anti-histamines and other meds helped band-aid the issue but never solved the root(ha no pun intended!) of the problem. snoring stopped for about a year and no, i still cannot smell anything. sense of smell completely gone! now, its about 2 years later and the polyps have grown back and am having a very difficult time breathing out of my nose without nasonex or afrin. time for more surgery i guess. not looking forward to it! :(
proc5454 3 months ago
@proc5454 goodluck mate. I hope they find a permanent solution to the issue. I know, nasal congestion is just annoying and effects your life due to sleep disturbance.

Wow, that was easy. After my packing was removed it took an hour and a half to stop the bleeding. But this was a second surgery for me, the first being tumor removal due to cancer. Those packs stayed in for two weeks. How fun was that? I hope all is going well for you .
chamomille63 11 months ago
I just had sinus surgery this morning. I didn't realize how lucky I was to get dissolvable foam instead of gauze!!!
czekc9090 1 year ago

I feel for you honey....my word, you looked like you were in such agony there. How is your breathing now? Are most (if not all) of your sinus problem subsided?
javajunkie101 1 year ago
@javajunkie101 i can breathe perfectly! this surgery was a serious miracle for me. unfortunately i cannot smell much and not sure if i every will. i guess its possible that after so many years of not being able to breathe.smell i just lost that sense. im just glad that i can finally breath out of my nose. unbelievable...

@basterdbart the day before this video was taken(Removing gauze packing post sinus surgery - 1), my doctor took out one of the packing strips. i had not taken any meds beforehand and oh damn...felt like a freight train rushing out of my face! the next day(this video) i loaded up on percocets which helped big time. i was totally out of it! im just glad that this nightmare is behind me and hopefully i will never go through this horrible ordeal ever again.

i feel urr pain i had this surgery 2 weeks ago and the worst of the pain ive had was when they removed the gauze packing lucky for you mine wasnt as quick as that the nurse kept stopping it was 3 attempts on one nostril and 4 on the other
TheNebula2009 1 year ago
Clearly very stressfull for you/him, good luck!!

i did not have packing in my nose, they just had me wear a bandage under my nose and let it drain. i had a turbinate reduction, cleaned out my sinuses, septoplasty, and got polyps removed. i broke my nose, just by running into a wall....ya. watch were your going.

i am removing mine 2 marrow am i gonna still be in pain?
citybboydun 1 year ago
@citybboydun the removal of the packin is the worst part of the ordeal...felt like a rabbid raccoon was gnawing its way out my face...was absolutely horrible. using a neti-pot afterwards helps flush out the blood clots...it worked great for me. good luck! lol...
proc5454 1 year ago
@proc5454 removing the gauze is the worst part of the procedure. after that shit is out of there you should be good with exception of the big blood clots you will blow out for 2 weeks. ;)

@PrettyTigerlilly douche
FlutterbyButterfly96 1 year ago
@FlutterbyButterfly96 What? Seriously, they do use tampons for nosebleeds (frequently in emergency cases like football injuries) and in nasal surgery because of the shape and absorbancy. How does stating fact make me a douche? V.V
PrettyTigerlilly 1 year ago
Hi
I have a deviated septum and sinus polyps and I have lost count of the amount sinus infections I have had. Instead of doing someting about it i ve been taking 10 to 15 mg of prednisone daily for the past three years. I was going to the specialist to have something done about it but after watching this I've decided against it. Thanks for the video.

Ahhh! Still send chills down my spine!
