  • great video I did that just today it is quick easy and effective thanks

  • another great video...I have never seen it done that efficiently... you actually deserve my sub which is more than i can say for most survival food prep videos.. Is the removal of the wings however just to make it easier to handle?

  • Thanks, now I can eat like a cat.

  • thanks man i now i now an easier way to clean them its like a dove hotspot in my backyard(i usually only kill 2 to 4)

  • Well done! Thanks!

  • Very nice, and quick, I like it!

  • dang thats good its the best method ive seen and if i go dove huntin ill definitly use it

  • great job!

  • thanks I just shot one with my pellet gun in my back yard lol, gonna go outside and clean em now

  • Put water in the bucket, and hold the dove under water while you do it.. it cuts down on the mess.

  • very informative thanks for posting, tomorrow is my frist time out dove hunting and now i know what to do when im out in the field, and i imagine the feathers and remains would be good for coon and yotes during trapping season

  • Thanks dude, Im going out in an hour and this was helpfull.

  • This is a grat video. It is people like you and me that keep it real. People would rather go and buy the meat from the store instead of getting it themselves. I only have one question... Is there bones behind that breast you pulleed out. I usually cut the head off the pull all the skinn and feathers off. Next I cut the two breasts off and soak them in salt water. I was just wondering if there were still bones back there with your method.

  • @28IanRickert - Yep there are bones but it really isn't an issue. This way you are faster and have no need of a knife. Once cooked you can easily pull the meat off with a knife and cooking on the bone makes it less likely to dry out and to me has better flavor. Cut a slice in each side right on the bone, push in a slice of jalapeno and a piece of garlic, wrap in bacon and grill basting with beer and soy sauce. I also never soak anything in salt water unless it is real bad blood shot.

  • @survivalpodcasting Ok thanks. My uncles cooks them that way but I have never eaten them. The last time I killed one I cut the breasts off the bone and had two pieces. Then i wrapped them in a bacon and deep fried them. I thought it was good but your way sounds great. Thaks for the tips.

  • cool

  • good vid dude helped alot!

  • I think it's pretty hot when a man can strip a bird down to meat in 30 seconds with his bare hands. ;) (yes, I'm female)

  • @jmpierce - I wish you would explain this to my wife! LOL

  • Would that "point" be its asshole?

  • @atifirepro1 - No the tip of the breast.

  • Thanks man! I'm new to hunting, but this definitely works! God bless you!

  • Very well made video, im just a 14 year old but i plane on going dove hunting this september, any advice from you. ???

  • Those dove look so cute! Yet their breasts look so delicious!

  • Thanks man! Ill remember that! Tm an airgun hunter but i didnt know how to clean so tnow i do, Thanks!

  • I love how people click a video titled "how to clean a dove" and just bitch about it being mean

  • Zombie apocalypse survival skill # 78

  • i rather starve to death

  • @rockandroll22yea - You are the exact type of retard that I put so many warnings in the front of the video for. In the future you may very well get your wish and starve to death as well. You are probably also the type of idiot that says shit like this and than goes and eats some processed crap like a chicken nugget.

  • @survivalpodcasting Very True.

  • @survivalpodcasting Its people like Rockandroll who would not live if everything goes to s*** because of a war or something like that. Folks have been hunting for thousands of years. So that guy can stfu

  • poor bird that's mest up

  • @rockandroll22yea - What the hell does "mest" mean. LOL

  • @survivalpodcasting

I live in California. When is dove season?

  • @rockandroll22yea No it isnt dude. He eats them, They taste great. You need to learn.

  • Hey great video! Anybody who does complain about this has never had one stuffed with a jalapeno, wrapped in bacon, and thrown on the grill!

  • wow that is a lot easer than i though

  • Aren't pigeons kinda tough and chewy? I've only had doves so is there a real difference?

  • @Asianleful - It is all relative, doves are more tender but pigeons are not like shoe leather or anything. Mostly it comes down to age, a young bird is tender, be it dove, pigeon, pheasant, turkey, chicken or duck. An older bird is tougher. Soaking over night in salt water helps and with older birds give em 5 minutes in a pressure cooker before putting them on the grill and it does wonders.

  • @survivalpodcasting Alright, thanks. Because my neighbors tell me that pigeons are really tough and tastes bad. The pigeons that are like rainbow in color with a lot of black on them.

  • @Asianleful A lot of people say a lot of things about things they really don't know anything about. Everyone used to say how awful muscovy ducks are to eat. They are the ones in the parks with the red on their heads and all the different colors. Years and years I listened to that nonsense. Now go google muscovy duck meat and you find it to be considered the best eating duck on the planet. As you might imagine the truth lies somewhere between the two extremes. But muscovies are good eating.

  • @survivalpodcasting Okay, well I like eating muscovies. There are a lot close to my house :) Well next time I see a pigeon I'm going to see what it tastes like! Btw, how do you prepare the heart?

  • @Asianleful - I like to save up a few dozen at least then take a skillet and get it good and warm. Melt a few table spoons of butter and add in some fresh garlic and a few chili peppers is you like spice. Saute the garlic and peppers for about a minute toss in the hearts and cook till nicely browned. I do this and eat em with a tooth pick one at a time, what a delicacy YUM.

  • @survivalpodcasting Alright, thanks! Now I don't waste the heart!

  • why u dont eat the legs

  • @ghost2cipz - Not enough meat to make it worth the effort. If you were starving it would be different but doves are something you shoot 12 a day over a long season it just isn't worth it.

  • oh he's good!!

  • This is the best video! All the other people's videos didn't show it as clear as you did. I like that you broke it down. Thanks! :-) Got the deer cleaning and dove cleaning down!

  • Very helpful video are there bones in the breast?

  • Thanks for the great instructions. Last time I ate dove, someone else cleaned it, but now I know. Going dove hunting tomorrow, hope I can try it out after if I am lucky.

  • @adrianchang80 - Glad to help but where do you live that you can hunt doves (legally anyway) tomorrow?

  • @survivalpodcasting Mongolia

  • @adrianchang80 - That's really cool.

  • just watched this video after eating my first dove...wish i had known this before hand but i know it now...thanks

  • i never ate one but...i think id eat bout 20

  • @TheBigpunn421 - You would be surprised actually there are very rich, 5-7 will really fill you up. One must makes you hungry though.

  • Is it bad if the stomach breaks? Does it affect the meat?

  • @TresDs3 - Not with a dove this way. When you pull out the breast the internals never touch the meat. When we clean in the field we might have 35 guys on a trip, stuff flies everywhere and the meat is always just fine.

  • u were right that was bloody

but i killed one and blood came out of its mouth like crazy

  • after i saw this vid i cleaned won my self

  • Good vid, but I think the way I do it is a little faster. I pull off the head, stick a finger into the body cavity behind the breast and pull the breast away from the body. After that the remaining skin and feathers come right off the breast. No need to remove wings either.

  • @Txfire409 Post a vid I would love to see it but see if you can be 30 seconds and recover the heart. There is more than one way to skin a cat and more than one way to debreast a dove for sure.

  • @jjspirko Will do..when I get a few birds. Havent been seeing very many lately. Headed out this morning though to give it a try.

  • Thank you this is the best dove cleaning video on youtube :D

  • graet vid with this work on bob wight qual as well

  • @jrlanierspc It will work on any small bird. Quail I usually pluck though and split and eat the legs and wings etc. But if you just want the breast it will work just fine.

  • thanks for posting this, i plan on dove hunting and this video helped a lot

  • is the breast the only part with meat?

  • wht about the other parts of the bird?? from that "big bird' u got just tht little breast meat? u waste a lot of meat...

  • @waterpologame1 Wings, legs etc on a dove are not much to speak of and given the high bag limits etc. this method is what 99% of dove hunters do.

  • Thanks for the vid, dove season starts in a couple months here in Indiana, and i needed to know how to do this.

  • Great vid bro!-I was waiting for the "graphic nature" of the warning... This seems like the cleanest way to get meat that I've seen....

  • Good stuff. The doves that lived outside my window aren't there anymore Jack. Haven't heard or seen them lately. Was that them?

    LOL

  • Hey man im 12 i just skinned a dove and got the breast with this meathod i grilled it it was really good thank you sir

  • Comment removed

  • another well done video. thanks for making this . . .

  • OMG noooo WHY!!!!!!

  • hey thx for making this video it really helped me

  • @jin78 is it dove season?

  • @QualityAirsoft

you would have to check with your sates hunting seasons by visiting their game and wildlife internet sites but in arizona i know it isn't

  • Thanks for posting. As a new hunter, this has been quite informative.

  • Great ..thanks for posting. This is Dustin your former neighbor ( from the office in Frisco ) The video helped, never done anything like that. Just a quick ( probably stupid ) question. Would it be quicker& easier if they were just cooked a TINY bit ( like 1 min open fire etc ) before doing that ? Just seemed like it but I certainly don't know and you do.

Also join PETA today !! P people F for T the E eating of tasty A animals

  • @DandDskeeto,

No I would never bother with that. One thing that does help with better control of the feathers is a quick dunk in water to wet them down. I never bother but it does make it easier to keep more of them off the final product.

Just do it like I showed you. After about 2-3 you will be as fast as me. One of the easiest critters there is to clean.

  • 5 stars... Cuz I have the same T-shirt. Thanks for the info.

  • Jack, I find it is a little bit quicker to split the skin on the breast prior to lifting it.

After removing the wings i hold the bird with both hands. My fingers cradle the bird and i use both thumbs on the center line of the breast. Press down and out, the skin will split and the bottom point of the breast sticks out, then proceed as normal.

I always broke the wings prior to removal, i think i will try twisting them off next time. Should end with a neater breast.

  • sweet deal. do you have any deer cleaning videos? i'm hoping to go deer hunting for the first time this season with some friends and i've been reading up on how to clean them but haven't seen any video (i wanna be somewhat prepared so i don't look like a novice and just be somewhat prepared on what i need to do LOL).

  • You made that look pretty easy. Thanks!

  • Jack! Luv your show! I learned something new but different from when I was a kid.

Learned to clean Pigeon when I was 12 but nothing like what you did here. We would cut the head and rid all the feathers. Then, open up and clean out the guts, wash/rinse, season & cook! We would keep the wings along with everything else. I figured I'd do the same for dove but... Too much work?

  • That was mean!! I did a chicken once when I was young, the experience was nothing like that though. Here in Hawaii we have a lot of small birds and not much else. I mean no squarles or rabbits, and on Oahu no dear. There is no hunting seasons and as such pigs are hard to come by. But birds are all over the place. Thanks for that I'm going to have to try it. Are there any diseases or other things that will mess me up that I should look out for eating doves and pidgeons?

  • Had never seen that done. Great video! I'm almost 32 and just learned how to gut fish and learned last week how to fillet them. I have a lot of catching up to do. Thanks again for the video!

  • I guess i have been hunting and fishing to long,I kept waiting for the "graphic" part. This does seem like a quick way to do it. Your latest podcast on medicinal plants was very good! thanks for posting!

  • @basszack,

I completely agree with you, my warning were only for the PETA types that seem to cruise youtube looking for something to cry about. Even with the warnings I have already had to delete 3 such comments.

  • well if the peta supporters want to get all bent out of shape remind them that chances are if there ancestors hadn't utilized some hunting skills they would have starved and they wouldn't be able to live off their trust fund and complain all the time. They also might be interested in the fact that their beloved peta put more animals down than all other "rescue" organization put together.oh that reminds me,i went deer hunting today and had a GREAT time!! mmmmm back straps!!!

  • Thanks ... very informative.

  • There is a lot of Ug factor to this video but it's important information to know. Thanks.

  • Great video. Looks very easy.

  • Useful video. Thanks!

  • Jack, I have been listening for awhile. This gives me a whole new respect for you, didn't think you actually hunted.

    Keep the video's coming!

  • Thats slick, thanks for posting this Jack

  • Good video Jack

    HoC

  • Great vid......Does the removed breast section contain the ribs as well?

  • @TheMudhole9

The ribs stay with the back meat when cleaned this way.

Doves have so little rib meat that its mostly not worth the effort, so by doing it this way you just end up with the breasts.

  • Thanks Jack.

  • That's how we clean robins
