@Wilco823 Lets face it you prefer to stay until some vague notion of stability in Afghanitsan is achieved or victory in the war on terror which basically implies that as long as the government gets to define who is and isn't a terrorist you have the recipe for never ending war. I prefer to withdraw and let the afghan people to figure out the solution to their problems. And as for critism and no solutions your advocating the same failed solution so take your own advice and stop commenting.

@Wilco823 The problem with the mission is the paternalistic idea that we have the right by virtue of our superpower status to tell other nations how to conduct themselves, what is appropriate and what is not. We cloak it in the context of fighting terrorists, according to the definition of terrorism as using force to change the behavior of others in a society, abortion clinic bombers are terrorists, the US army in Iraq and Afghanistan is practicing terrorism.

@Wilco823 Yes stonings and killing people for Adultery, Blasphemy or any other reasons we find unconscionable is tragic, but to rectify this would mean meddling in the internal affairs of many nations and would become a full-time endeavor not to mention a drain on our economy. We are trying to build a nation in a society without a true sense of national identity. Should we have intervened to keep Yugoslavia from splintering into warring states?

@Wilco823 Vietnam was left to fend for itself, so just how much respect would you have for the founders of the USA if they had waited for say the french to liberate them from King George III instead of doing the fighting themselves risking their lives and fortunes. I'd have very little respect for people who sit on their asses waiting for others to do the heavy lifting and then enjoying the fruits of that labor.

@Wilco823 In the end all governments rely on force or the threat of force to maintain order in their society do you actually think that if Texas and one or two other states were to decide to secede from the United States that United States military wouldn't be used to put down the rebellion. Even the most benign and Democratic governments rely on the threat of force and to maintain their stability and viability.

@Wilco823 don't be facetious I didn't say that the United States supports only dictatorships but if the country in question would be more stable under a dictatorship than a democracy United States would use its substantial but not limitless influence to try to effect whatever solution was deemed most likely to serve US strategic interests. The United States has routinely supported counter revolutions and military coups against fledgling democracies that were socialist oriented

@Wilco823 Look if a government can't stand on it's own it's not worth defending, Either the afghans are helpless children which smacks of paternalism and the white man's burden or they are capable but unwilling to make the sacrifices necessary to defend their national government. The afghans are basically loyal to tribe and religious sect first, central government comes in as somewhere near the bottom of their loyalty list, to build their loyalty would require remaking their entire culture

@Wilco823 Most of our attempts at making countries stable have resulted in us supporting both monetarily and militarily authoritarian or totalitarian regimes, (Egypt, Yemen , Tunisia, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran under the Shah, etc. So why don't we just admit that we prefer undemocratic governments rather than actual representative republics.

Will USA pay anything so Afghanistan can repair itself?

Russia should also pay to Afghanistan, for it's (sovjet's) devastating war there, even if it was a shorter occupation than the current US are having.
