This song is beast! Who would of thought that Mexican quinceañeras use this song for a simple dance. I was the main male dancer for my cousin. Sick song without a doubt.
@davidgruty Well seeing as the Violin is a major instrument in this song, taking it out would make the song sound funny. It's like taking the drums out of Rush's Tom Sawyer. It would sound funny. Name one song you would like when it was missing a major instrument.
@davidgruty If Andrew Oldham hadn't arranged a beautiful composition based on the Stones 'The Last Time', nobody would like this song. They really did rip it off. That opening movement with the violins, which is the most powerful part of the song, is directly from the Oldham record. Have a listen to the original Oldham orchestra (should be on youtube). It's basically the same song, minus Ashcroft's vocals/lyrics, (which is why Klein sued them)
@davidgruty only a dumb american would say something this stupid,i wish we had this kind of talent over here but unfortunatly only the british have this kind of innovation.
@linoma57 i'm not american and i (think) am not a dumb.
Many people around me know this song, and they don't even know the name of it, or of the band. They say "the violins song". Maybe you are lucky and your friends are more musically cultured people; mine are not
@iorch421 very emotional speach at the start, absolute quality song........shivers down the spine every time,i would love to be in his shoes in front of that crowd, what a feeling....
in the beginning of the video when the singer walks around... omg he seriously looks like Liam Gallagher when Oasis performed on The White Room in 1995!
Essa musica é simplesmente fantastica, linda os caras que compos capricharam muito, como uma musica facill fica linda desse jeito, isso prova que musica boa não é sinonimo de dificuldade
originally they had a 5050 deal with Klien until the song went huge then Klien wanted 100 percent, they had to give everything they made, i thought that was strange since Ashcroft wrote the lyrics
Ignoring all the copyright issues for a moment I.E. the Rolling Stones (it wasn't them): Andrew Oldham (it was his recording); Allen Klein (it was his copyright, now he's dead); etc., this is a tremendous performance from Richard and the band. It really is.
@ruairisheridan lol! Um, thanks I think. That was a compliment, right? Anyway, I heard the song and it didn't sound much like Bittersweet Symphony. =P But, I asked my sister's opinion on which she thought was better and guess what she picked?!
@DeeFaery yeh it was a compliment :). the version i downloaded, at the start sounds exactly like this :S. How can she pick JD over this like! Quality tune like.
for exactly the same reason A Rush of Blood to The Head was nominated but OK Computer wasn't.
Oasis and Coldplay are more 'accessible'. Don't get me wrong Oasis were a great band, one of my favourites, but Urban Hymns is without a doubt the best album made in the last 30 years in my opinion.
Sadly though, bands like The Verve and Radiohead are ignored for being unique. But to the minority who appreciate great music nowadays, they will never be forgotten.
@ldr .. my sentiments exactly, thats what i though, this album has quality track after track, theres some bloody epic songs on Urban Hymns, just check out Haigh Hall. yeah, they were robbed..
For me, BHN is a classic. it may be totally ludicrous in production, length and is lyrically porr in some places, however as far as I'm concerned the fact that it was so obviously produced on a mountain of cocaine adds to the sheer arrogance of a band that were at the time the best and biggest in the world. That album is the perfect album to show it.
@luftair oasis isn't just band it's something special and amazing, wonderful and for somebody everything.
why do you compare these great bands i don't understand, i love both of them and verve is my childhoods band which causes many feelings in me but i'll never say that it's better than oasis because it won't be just
i love tis son. we used it for our hockey season opener song. we had al the lights off and they started playing it before we hit the ice nd when we came out thre were like spotlights and shit. it was awesome. this song fit that accasioun perfectly.
It is a remarkable song, and one that I feel very personally connected to...
