  • @aotwtelevision you have no idea how funny it is to read how worked up you're getting over this. First, trying to pass off your opinion as fact is immature (you thinking my piece isn't impressive is an opinion, however you singing out of key is a fact.) Second, you're making a fool out of yourself without my help. And third, I'm actually going to the University of Wisconsin, Superior studying film composition. Learn the proper English language, BUDDY.

  • @aotwtelevision actually the only reason I keep responding is because when I have lunch at the music lounge at the university, I check my emails. I, along with my friends, find it very amusing how ridiculous you sound, both in your comments and videos. Remember: music is for enjoyment. Many people enjoy watching this video, and I enjoy playing. I, along with my friends, agree that you're just an immature egomaniac. Chill out bro- its only a silly tune after all.

  • @aotwtelevision learn the rule: your / you're your is a possessive adjective, indicating ownership of something

That is your sock. Where is your potato? you're is a contraction (combination) of you and are Do you know what you're doing? You're stupid. The two are not interchangeable. Getting it wrong makes you look stupid. And ugly.

  • Dont care what anyone else says, sound quite impressive....have you considered tabbing it for newbies like me to have a go at?

  • @estglen thank you! :D I've thought about it.... but it is relatively easy to play- an easy crowd pleaser! If I do, I'll let you know!

  • doesnt sound celtic but its good :) :)

  • i say old chap. mighty fine bit of mandolin playing .

  • I'm not sure how this is celtic, but i still love it!! :)

  • Ever heard of Solly Burton? There's a mandolin player to check out!

  • This is what the cool kids do then? Play the mandolin?

  • what talent... love it

  • Makes me think of a cross between Spanish guitar and Celtic fiddle music! Do you have tabs/notation up for this anywhere?

  • This was awesome! I really loves the intensity and the style of music.

  • You got talent my friend, congratulations!

  • This is cool.

  • does anyone no of any sick mandolin tunes? All i know is Battle of Evermore by Zeppelin

  • hi

  • Intense-looking mandolin mate :D

  • AWESOME!!!

  • sweet :D

  • pretty kickass :)

  • Very nice!

  • I dont think Zep vibe. Zep is influenced by Celt so its pure Celt.

  • I hear some Persian influence or the like, But yes definetly Zep and Celt.

  • Beginning at 030 it sounds like the intro for a STYX song, and again at 138. But it's only a few bars and doesn't define the tune. It is quite apparent however.

  • sounds more middle eastern...

    Sounds cool though :D

  • Did you ever write this down?

  • You like Led Zep methinks ;)

  • Have you heard of John Skehan? One of the finest mandolin players around.

  • Hello from Germany, fantastic!

  • love it. great job!

  • This is really cool stuff. Keep up the good work!!

  • Awesome song, I've only just started to figure out the beginning of it on my Mandolin, which I only just started to play. :P

Mandolin is a fun instrument, but after playing Upright Bass and Bass guitar the tiny frets are hard to work with, but Mandolin is still fun to play. Also, you really need to put tabs for this up somewhere. I really want to play it.

  • Absolutely monstrous. I have no doubt that this is what my roommate WISHED I sounded like haha! :p

  • WOW! this is fantastic. I wish i could play any form of guitar as well as this...

  • This isn't celtic at all...

  • @Zilthier I know this isn't a traditional Celtic tune, it is my own piece I wrote in the style.

  • @spartacusian08 sounds celtic with a bit of zeppelin to me

  • @Zilthier Ummm... Yes it is! Very Celtic!

  • Dude, that's really cool! I love how the Mandolin sounds, and your song is really cool too.

  • really awesome, man. Keep it up.

  • Is it normal tuning?? Sounds like an open am I right?

  • this is incredible, i played violin for 6 years before picking up a mandolin, so i dont find the the fingerwork to difficult, but i'm having trouble wit hstrumming styles, any tips. i also play guitar so i think this might have heled, but still cant understand how you hit the string with such ferocity yet you get such a clear sound....practice i guess. truly amazing well done!

  • the very beginning is reminiscint of planxtys raggle taggle gypsy, mandolin is the sh*t!

  • This song makes me smile like a drunkard! :D

  • Dude! That mando has a beautiful sound! I have heard plenty and none that ring quite like that one! What is the exact model?!

  • way to go :)

  • Could you make a tab please?

  • @tigerslaya123 Red haired Boy is a great starting tune. There is a good video on here that breaks it down in the key of A very well. It will take you a while but once you get it it's fun and sounds good for family and friends. And remember: play scales, scales, scales until you are sick of them, then play them some more! It is not that fun but will pay huge dividends in a fairly short time

  • Great song and good playing!

  • i almost bought a Michael Kelly, decided on the Eastman instead last second. Nice playing

  • could you put together a tab for me man? it sounds AWESOME

  • im new and never played guitar what would be a good song to learn to play first.

  • do you know what key it's in?

  • Hi! I'm very interested in learning the mandolin, any recommendation on what kind to buy? I like the sound on this one, what is it?

  • i already play ukulele and guitar, do you think the mandolin will be relatively easy to pick up? awesome video by the way.

  • do you have written music for this?! its awsome, and I'd love to play it myself!

  • You're way too good at the Mandolin to be recording by such primitive means. You owe it to yourself to invest in some decent recording equipment. I would buy your cd.

  • Hi Spartacus....We have the similar mando's...i.e Michael Kelly's..

Liked your playing....check mine if you like...Pantherman:)

  • @pantherman333 haha thanks! I will! :)

  • this song sounds familiar kinda like pinball wizard er something

  • is it just me getting a Zeppelin vibe here? :S ,, absolutely sweet playing :D

  • Pretty much raw ownage.

  • ive played guitar for ten years mostly metal and i just bought a mandolin and iam freaking loving these irish tunes!!!! haha... awesome tune man!!!!

  • @TfcSouth ya im more of a woodwind man meself, traditional woodwind of course. ;)

  • Awesome ~

  • You're not going to believe this! I just bought a mandolin half an hour ago! It's the A shape, hand made by the Big Muddy Mandolin Company in Rockport, MO. It will take me a while to get it all together with a teacher. I can't think I'm so excited. I'll keep you posted, no pun intended.

  • This is a trip! My hands are very small and I got this idea to learn to play the mandolin. I came to Youtube to hear some and I found YOU. THANK YOU for this. It brings tears to my eyes and shows me that my idea is probably correct.

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it- it means a lot! Good luck with the mandolin- hope to see videos of you playing it soon! :)

  • @rubygoldworthy22 dude u have feelings of a saint hahaha

  • @reynosamanA3 You're teasing me. I'm going out to the garden to eat worms. Ha! I AM pretty emotional. Cancer the Crab. This video was a BIG influence on me.Lessons are going very well. Currently learning Sam Cooke's Love Will Find a Way. I had a hard time finding a teacher.

  • that was awesome : ) did you teach yourself to play?

  • yep- this was just me messing around- it was fun :)

  • that was awesome : ) did you teach yourself to play

  • that was awesome : ) Did you teach yourself to play?

  • cool kind of reminds of the battle of evermore by led leppelin except faster

  • very nice

  • Wow that was amazing, what kind of mandolin is that/ how much did it cost? I'm completely new to mandolins and have no idea if theres a difference with sound between models (I've seen some with completely round bodys). If you could help me out that would be awesome

  • Awesome.

  • you shouldn't go writing on your mandolin...it might scratch it....lol...ah no pretty good stuff :)

  • That's sick bro, I have been playing guitar for quite a while but the first time I tried a mandolin I couldn't put it down for about an hour. I love these instruments. I want to try an octave mandolin next.

  • Dude, I love it. So cool.

  • dude thats epic, do you got any tabs on it?

  • Very nice, I like it!

  • hey ive been playing guitar fr a long time and i am really interested in trying to learn mandolin. Im just wondering if it will be easy to teach myself if i already play guita

  • If you already play guitar, you already know the mechanics on how to play- the only difference is that it is tuned differently. Once you get used to that it is pretty easy :)

  • @GrowlingPuppet its easy as shit!!!! i just did it a few days ago.... it only took me a day to get it down!!! dod it youll love it!!!

  • You're really talented!! I love this song!

I would really like to get stringed instrument like a mandolin or guitar. I've played piano my entire life, clarinet for about 6 years. Do you have any advice for a first time buyer for an instrument such as the mandolin? Types of wood to look into, etc.?

  • Why thank you very much!

If you are a first time buyer, I personally think that you don't really have to worry that much about different woods and whatnot. Just something that sounds pretty good to your ears and plays easily with working tuners. After a while if you still want to continue with it, then upgrade- But some basic things to look for are any major defects (like the neck is warped, the body is cracking, tuners don't work right, etc.) good luck!

  • You're very welcome! ^^

Okay! Good to know! I know a friend of mine bought an acoustic guitar and if you buy it in different woods it has a more rich sound or a less rich sound so I thought that maybe it's the same with a mandolin.

    Thanks! :)

  • It is the same- but just because a wood is marked as 'better' doesn't mean that you will like the sound better- so if you just use your ear you'll be fine!!! :)

  • Alrighty then! =) Thanks again!

Haha, oh I will use my ear XD

  • I've been doing some research on brands of Mandolins. The brand "Kentucky" has some great beginner mandolins. Made in China but solid wood and great reviews. Check out the KM 150 or the KM 250, depending what you are willing to spend. I ended up "splurging" and bought the KM 505 but it's a great instrument and I love it.

  • Haha! Well I wouldn't be able to afford a Mandolin at this moment but I will take your advice. :) Thanks!

  • This is fantastic. Very well done. Do you happen to have tabs?

  • thanks! No I dont- I don't even have it written out lol

  • Original My Hole you have been listening to to Much Andy Irvine and Lunny my friend, good job either way tho.

  • Yes it is original, and no I don't listen to (or have even heard of) Andy Irvine

  • Okay maybe original just saying the similarity i found, its very like Irvine & Lunny's Riverdance, the whole bulgarian timing. If you haven't heard of andy irvine you should, he plays a mean mandolin and Irish Bouzouki. Tube him

  • wow

  • How long have you been playing the mandolin? Fantastic song.

  • Hey thanks! At the time this video was made I had been playing for about 3 months... now its been about a year.

  • How many hours a day do you practice and did you take lessons or teach yourself?

  • I don't practice mandolin every day... but I taught myself.

  • This is sweet Ian!!

  • hey thanks! :)

  • I thought you wear playing a gibson wow like to see what you could do with My A-1 gibson 1917 come to binghamton I'll hook you up with My frend brother randy and record you WEAR ARE YOU!

  • haha- no its a MK mando :)

Wow- that sounds like you can get some sweet sounds out of it! Where is Binghamton? I live in northern wisconsin... lol

  • Are you using an alternate tuning? open or standard?

  • That's awesome sounding keep it up!!

  • reminds me of battle of evermore, sounds awesome

  • Thats awesome man sounds excellent!

  • Good stuff.... a reel tasty tune!

Had a legacy O.... friend of mine has one too... I took mine back though as the neck wouldn't stay straight! shame.. it sounded nice.

  • Thanks! :) When you get a video of you playing it send it to me! I'd love to see it!! :)

  • you may have just been messing around. but this is amazing. im learning mandolin myself. just starting to get somewhere lol

  • Wov! Thats awesome!

  • how hard tis mandy to play, im kinda half good at gheetar will that helpa

  • It will help a little bit with hand coordination, but the frets are a lot closer together and the strings aren't the same notes. But over all its not too hard to play... this video is me not really knowing what I'm doing and just messing around with it until it sounded good... lol

  • waht make and model is that, and how much did tit cost you

  • Michael Kelly Legacy FS-E Mandolin with Fishman Pickup. I managed to get it $200 off so I only had to end up paying $500 for it...

  • This is really fucking beautiful Ian.

You are stupidly talented, and it's fair to say I am now one of your biggest fans.

  • Thanks :)

  • I just wanted to say, that was really great!

  • Thanks tons!! : )
