Thank you for sharing your video. My grandfather was from my Pangasinan and your dad's garden reminds me of my grandpa's. My great grandfather was a Delano Manong and came here in 1929. This video was very inspirational and I was very touched.

My dad was about 20 years younger and able to immigrate in the 1950's after he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. I am so proud of the Manongs and how they shaped the civil rights movement.

All it took was for me to see that plant, not sure what it is, but I know my mom used to cook with it, and the work tools - the girdling knife and that other hoe/like tool, I remember my father having them both. brought tears to my eyes. Reminded me of my own backyard. I had to use a hanky while watching this. Hard work to make a better life for their families. My father turned 100 years old and is doing fine. The work has kept him strong till now.
This video did exactly that. It captured the essence of the Filipino American family, especially the parents of the First-Born Filipino Americans. I cannot help but "tear-up" as I clearly empathize with your appreciation for your parents and your culture. My father was a manong who passed away in 1997 and Manong Lorenzo is one of the last manongs we have left in our community. I basically thought, if my dad were still around, what kind of video would I make for him. I worked with the family, and this is the result.
Also, a little trivia: Manong Lorenzo is the manong featured at the end of the Black Eyed Peas, Bebot: Generation One video. Also, his sons, Lorenzo Jr. is a board member of the Little Manila Foundation and Reggie is the graphic designer who designed our Little Manila logo and t-shirts.
