@forgetfulmuse I would like to think its the same individual who had the same opinion on several other wonderful tunes, including "The Wind" at cd2jXsmSaKc . Hopefully, they will improve with age and experience, forget their past opinions, and appreciate the here and now.
This song is based on Greek mythology, Odyseus was married to Penelope, who stayed faithful to him while he was fighting the Trojan war and during his forced exile after. A true tale of love and beauty. Worth the read.
@WJOsler That is most commonly acquired from "The Odyssey" and "Iliad" by the literate Homer. McKennitt only admits inspiration from "The Odyssey", but not that the song is based on the poem. (I know, picky picky picky) "And during that week I listened to ... Homer's Odyssey ... And it got me thinking about, ... there have been people who have left and there have also been people who've been left behind. "
@WJOsler Perdona....pero la Odisea es la obra...no existio ningun Odyseus....Penelope eataba casada con Ulises y a el se mantuvo fiel...........preciosa cancion.........
@Croyuela Good question. I forget now, might be from the JiuZhaiGou Valley in China. (Although I think the coloured trees at night segment is from Japan. I'll see if I can find the sources.
Basically it starts with a man leaving a woman "for distant shores" saying "Ill be back" or "I'll call for you to follows me". The Song is the lament of separation and the waiting . The video is meant to convey the passage of time through the seasons, and that each individual will hear in their head the voice of the other, during their separation.
W gałązce wiatru W szepcie rzeki W srebrnym lustrze gwiazd W czułym mchów przytuleniu W ciemnym brokacie myśli - serca ślady i ciszy wołanie... Niezwykłe słowem, obrazem, muzyką jest to arcydziełko - video. Nie można oderwać się od poruszającej wszystkie struny siły jego delikatności... - rzeki, która nie ma końca...
:'( I miss you...

@jtatlarge ...the song is called 'Penelope's Song' ... sounds like it's pretty much based on the love story in the Odyssey...

@ManleyJess Seems so. But, perhaps it was a response to Normie Rowe? who sang a song (Penelope), then went to serve/fight in Vietnam for a year.

Too swift for those who fear
Too long for those who grieve
Too short for those who rejoice
But, for those who love -
Time is eternity"...
