Self-Ownership may be an oversimplification... I'm ok with that. For many, concepts above a sixth grade level are missed. 'Self Ownership' is easily understood by almost all. It could also be said that no one else has rights to you, your body or your labor. It just takes longer to say and requires more thought. The narrator is over thinking a simple concept in an effort to fool others that he is an intellectual. An obvious narcissist.
