  • omg the sphere disappears at 0:22

  • my cat would love this

  • ^^ cool..

  • What a fantastically pointless piece of engineering!

  • really cool!

  • Wonderful piece of art! Bravo!

  • This is getting dangerously close to Animusic.

Except this is real. Gotta admit, that makes a difference. Good work.

  • this piece needs precision work. great job!

  • this is so awesome...you would be a great engineer!

  • I'd put one of those in my room and stare at it for hours.

  • @kudohazama Amen. The rhythm and tone of the sounds this device makes are quite soothing.

  • It actually has sort of an awesome rhythm too, not just noise but a serious industrial riff.

  • Ha HA!!! Nice!!!

  • Wow, my favourite Kinetic Sculpture that ive seen on youtube so far!

  • просто хуита

  • looks like a juggling machine.. you should try with balls with different colors. lighted transparent ones with light if possible.

  • hmmm. I think of this one as more of a ball fountain. The QuadRotapult (top of my channel page) is more of a juggling machine. -B

  • That's an insanely magnificent piece of wood work, hats off to you BLitwin, hats off.

  • Nice RHYTHM in it, too!

  • wooow how long did that take to make ..brill

  • almost perfet!!! only needs a silencer xD

  • stellar craftsmanship

  • O.O THE AIM IS PERFECT!

  • Now make a 16pult

And make it so it shoots 4 balls at a time!

    that would be so awesome!!!

  • I think that's going to be your next project! -B

  • @BLitwin

im no where near knowledgeable at making things like this!

  • Ahhh. Better get to work, then, eh? -B

  • @BLitwin

i dont have that great of attention span for non electronic devices, (somethng like this doesnt count just because it has a motor)

If i find something I like i leave ideas and challenges for the people that make them and they usually try them out.

I have non of the tools or materials for making something like this.

  • Well. While it might be a lot of fun, to make a "Hexadecapult," it's not going to be high on my list of things to do, anytime soon. -B

  • completely uselles...

    but cool :)

  • This made me smile. Nice piece of work

  • Thats pretty damn epic, yo.

  • i don't know why but after watching that...i feel a lot more calm.

  • I was expecting an Octopus Catapult...

  • So this was commissioned by a public school district? And they have the nerve to come to the taxpayers for MORE money. Its nice and all, but if I was a taxpayer in Lower Merion Township, I'd be pizzed. This is another example of what's wrong with government. They don't care how they spend OUR money. There's always more where that came from. Its gotta stop.

  • Wrong wrong, Glenn. It was commissioned by the parents association. Not a dime came from taxes. -B

  • @ChaosPunksXe

Oh, well pardon me, you're heading to college. Give my regards to all those at the community collegium. I'm sure you'll do great at Quantum Theory and Mechanics or have high marks at Business Development and Practice.

    Sarcasm there...

  • love stuff like this, pointless beauty - I could fall asleep to that sound

  • @ChaosPunksXe

First, the fact you don't seem to think without the use of profanity says, very much, how your vocabulary matches your intellect: lacking. You shoulda' stayed in school. Punk rock died out much the same way disco did; with a wimper long ago. Banging on dollar store instruments, doesn't make it

What it comes down to, is you made an assenine question and now YOU are trying to justify it when you got called out

I don't feel stupid, I feel pity. It's "Idiocracy" all over again.

  • @JemmetGK it's "asinine"

    Oohhh burrrrnnnn!

Kidding... and Idiocracy is a fucking great movie.

"You mean like, from the toilet?"

  • @timpedersen

Actually I did mean it with the "ss".

My artistic license on the spelling...;)

    Especially on that conversation.

  • awesome thats so cooooooool

  • @ChaosPunksXe

Well then, your "ligitimate" question should have been phrased in a more intelligent and less demeaning manner.

And your vocabulary... If you're trying for a less than punk attitude visual, you could use a better-than-profanity tuneup.

You want yourself to be better understood; think before you type and post.

You say you do things creative, well, let's see it and maybe people like me (very creative types) will criticise you less. Get the idea?

  • @ChaosPunksXe

Because; your handle, along with your lack of candor, puts your question into the realm of arrogant intonation. That and having nothing of a creative nature in your own channel says to most, "I'm just a punk who puts down creative...creations in lue of an anarchistic pretense." Did the Mona Lisa performe a function? Did the Venus D'Milo performe a function?

In other words: it was actually a stupid "question" and should have been kept to yourself, not posted.

  • @ChaosPunksXe

    What's the pointe?

What's the pointe of candy? "There is no pointe, it just is."

In this case, it's just creative, imaginative and not a waste of one's talent.

Let's see you do something equally as such. So far, perusing you channel, I for one of many, am not impressed

  • This rocks. So glad you're not wasting your time on the betterment of society. ;-)

  • can we get longer videos of these things, i could watch them for hours? thanks! you rock!

  • can we get longer videos of these things, i could watch them for hours. thanks! you rock!

  • I dont care what anyone says...this thing is sweet. Good job

  • this reminds me of dr zeuss

  • JUST AWESOME

  • @ChaosPunksXe oooooooops...truth hurts...don't mind the grammar, mind the thought!

  • Un délice !

  • @ChaosPunksXe : point? the point is your parents failed to use condom! did yo not see the wonder or human capability, to imagine, create and end up successfully invented this little wonder machine, trust me it can be a model for the source of free electricity! moron don't know how to use the rotten liquid inside his coconut husk!

  • I wonder does it ever miss?

  • Miss what? If you mean, do the balls ever miss the funnels? This can happen, when the machine falls out of adjustment. But, with 8 catapults launching 160 balls a minute, I have no desire to chase after strays. So, it is made to be exceptionally reliable.

    -B

  • Very elegant and ingenious design.

  • This is... it's...ITS PURE GENIUS

  • Reminds me of that gum-making machine from the original Willy Wonka.

  • @ChaosPunksXe

It is art for art's sake. Also, a fantastic piece of engineering. Hats off to the creator!!

  • Point? Tsk. If only I'd realized that one was required, I might have offered it for your consideration. Perhaps you could provide one? At the moment, I'm fresh out!

  • @BLitwin I agree. What's the point of a painting? It serves no real purpose and has very little/no useful function.

The point is, it's neat. It demonstrates how the builder has a passion, skill, and understanding of mechanical devices. He took something conceptual and made it real.

Yet, if you need a reason, here are some:

    1. The rhythmic sounds can put babies suffering from cholic to sleep.

    2. Scare away flies that wander too close.

    3. Check the durability of marbles.

  • @BLitwin

    Mechanical/Architectural appreciation.

  • is there a time the ball dont shoot ? this is better than the barney song :D

  • this is awsome but sorry brad you need a girl freind

  • Hmmm. Don't know what my wife would think of that. ;^)

  • Woah its like a real life version of pipedream from animusic!!!

  • A mechanical juggling team! Brilliant!

  • Fantastic......

  • :) this makes me smile

    Human's are so creatively fun.

  • Humans? What planet do you hail from? : )

  • its hypnotic... its truly a kind of art.... i like it _very_ much :)

    a pretty inspiration, thx :)

    - keep up the good work

  • Brilliant!

  • that is ingenious

  • great great grat !!!

how u figured out the range of the singel catapults?

  • Range is determined by two factors. The first is the force applied by the spring. The other is the angle at which the ball is released. As the release angle approaches horizontal, the resulting trajectory approaches the vertical. By fixing the release angle for a nominal trajectory (a parabolic curve), the spring force is then adjusted accordingly.

  • @BLitwin THX i'm still hypnoticed

  • flawless time calculation, beautiful mechanism, layout. Brilliant!

  • I really need to learn some Maths right now !

  • wow its a pinball machine that plays itself without flaw...

...and wow it's made entirely of wood??

  • Mostly wood, yes. The balls, cam followers and the dome are plastic, and the motor drive components are metal, as are the cones and plumbing parts. -B

  • kool man!

  • daycent

  • @funkydough83

heheheh! Sounds like a poor man's wages!

  • I say, I say that's pretty cool.

  • Dang, that's a purdy cool.

  • Mesmerizing.

  • ahh, I like how one ball visits several pipes, not just 2.

  • Im getting hypnotized by this video

  • Très bien!

  • HOW?!!?

  • so so coool, can i have one.

  • Good beat that machine makes

  • thats amazing.

  • guys, that is so insulting... ANIMUSIC IS NOT REAL!

  • thats pretty cool!

  • animusic pipe dreams reminds me of this

  • ...except mine is REAL!

  • great!!!

  • this kinda looks like that animusic video

    very cool

  • i really love this type of 'toys'!

the bad thing is that i am really bad at physics, but i guess this is purely imagination rather than math this is awesome!

  • i'm waiting for the 256

    just kidding, great job.

  • Wow ! interesting

  • "Everybody's got something to hide, 'cept for me and my monkey!" -Lennon/McCartney

  • very annoying, but i salute your engineering.

  • Brilliant!

  • Like this! great job!!

  • Very impressive

  • If the balls were to strike a chime tube somewhere along their way... you could create a melody with the 8 segments. Just sayin'

  • insane

  • lol pipe dreams

  • can i has this?

  • wow!!!! great iob!!!!

  • annoying

  • Mission accomplished! ;)

  • it sounds like music. great job!

  • someone needs to make a decasextapult!!!

If the Quadrapult was good, and the Octapult was twice as good, that means that they get exponentially better!

  • Ooo! How 'bout a sesquipedalianapult? arf arf arf! -B

  • great, really great! i like it a lot.

    greetings from holland

  • thats amazin, can honestly say it goes like clok work lol, all the credit to whoeva thought of and built this, ur one amazing craftsman

  • that was awesome

  • Thats fun :)

  • This reminds me of a water fountain that was in front of the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas. First would shoot water to the second fountain. The 2nd would shoot water to a 3rd and then to a 4th.

  • Yeah. I've seen one like that, too, at Disneyworld. It's a very neat fountain.

  • sounds like a rythym from bluemangroup... underlay a musik same speed would be fine. very nice work. is it your idea?

  • Entirely! -B

  • this is one of those thing made just for shits and giggles but there may be more to it that has not been discovered

  • sooo great! congratulations dude!!!

  • this is an amazing finely crafted piece of work my friend, amazing

  • i bet this was inspired by animusic....or the other way around

  • I heard about that, maybe six months after I made this piece. I tried making a connection with those folks, but never got a reply. Oh well. We could've made beautiful music!

  • dang that woulda been cool

  • First of all this is great work what you have done! You have all my respect and appreciation for your work. In fact I am making such an Animusic like sound machine called MarblePhone. Visit my profile to see a already working version of it. What has to be done next is the transport of the marbles back to the top which is a big challenge to build. More videos of the MarblePhone will follow.

  • Wondeful! If you like music playing ball machines, search on this most amazing one that my friends made - Absolut Quartet.

  • this is very cool, i like that

  • My friend showed me this video...

ON HIS IPOD!!!!! Didn't ask permission either!!

What should i do? Flogg or waterboard? I allready destroyed his ipod so that part is over with.

  • Well, I don't think either will get the message across. Unconsented showing of video is worse than unconsented showing of genitalia in my opinion (and, let's be honest my opinion is universal), and possibly on the same level of inhumanity as rape and forced sex.

I suggest you stone him to death, slowly, with sharp-edged pebbles. Make it a public execution as well, like they have in Saudi Arabia, to spread the message of course.

  • Well - as a metalsmith - you've given me a lot of inspiration to continue to play with all of the gears and mechanisms that I've collected over the years... I like the work that I do, but... it doesn't "do" anything... (except enhance the perceived value of the wearer?) Your work is just ... wonderful! Thanks again for your inspiration! dHb

  • Again - I'm in awe! May I ask how you came to design and fabricate these wonderful works? You incorporate woodworking, metalsmithing and engineering genius... have you always worked in these areas?

  • Thanks so much for your kind praise. I've been a model maker since I was a kid, and am blessed with a peculiar gift for understanding how things work, just by looking at them. I've taught myself how to work with different materials, over the years, and love to explore things I've not tried - which gets me in plenty of trouble!

  • Looks like something that should be integral to regulating the polarity of the neutron flow in the T.A.R.D.I.S.

  • this is unreal!

  • has a nice beat

  • did you biuld this and how long did it take you...if u did

  • Yes, I both designed and built this piece. It took about 2 months. -B

  • this is rubbish people!!!!!!

something is driving the wooden board!!!

    not the balls

    YOUVE BEEN HAD

  • There's no subterfuge at work here. Yes, the rotating cam, in the middle, is driven by a gearmotor, from underneath. It provides the energy and timing control for every part of the machine. I don't know where the idea came from, that the balls power it. That would certainly be violation of understood principles. -B

  • is the instructions by bradley N Litwin free?

  • the sound that it makes is so cool.

maybe is the song of the devil

    or

    the

    answer of life

  • Heheheh. Sound of the devil eh? You might be right about that!

  • or...the sound of an electric motor? This can not be some propetual motion device, as wood(like all materials) has friction, the friction makes some of the kinetic energy into heat, so say you dropped the balls and they reached 100cm, next time they would get to 99, then 97 and exponentially downward.

  • quite useless, but also awesome xD

  • I'm in love with this machine.

  • That one spinning ball (you know which one I mean!). It fascinates me and irritates me at the same time.

  • That's so amazing and I love that it's at a school! I bet it fascinates the kids and I hope it gets them interested in learning how it works.

  • ok, except the next time it has to actually juggle - one ball in the air always.

    Yes, Im an ass.

  • What powers it?

  • 110 VAC Gearmotor drives the central disk.

  • Does it produce zero point "free" energy?

  • Not if I can bloody well help it! :)

  • Interesting and well-crafted, but utterly pointless.

  • Well I guess if gives them something to do. ^^

He was there making that when you were probably on your pc which others may find pointless lol.

  • Get a soul

  • That was absolutely amazing

  • shoulda put in an orange ball so we could folow it along

  • has a ball ever missed since it was completed?

  • Once in a great while, a ball will bounce the wrong way, and get loose. There is a space under the dome, for which to extract errant balls, and a reload tube to put them back in circulation.

  • ok, this is great.

  • Woh! That's superb!

  • That is the coolest thing I've ever seen...

  • there's no fool like an old fool

  • It would be cool if each of the balls were a different colour. That way you can watch their progress.

  • Yeah. Next time. -B

  • Bad Ass I want one

  • Okay, now that is pretty cool! How did you ever get the aim right to get the balls into the right buckets 0_o!?!? Nice Job!

    *****

  • using physics! bwahahaha :)
