  • Here is some infor I managed to dig up

Years before the Flying Tigers - American Volunteer Group, the original American Volunteer Group consisting of 13 Chinese-American aviators joined their native Chinese Air Force counterparts in the mid-1930's in the preparation for imminent war with Imperial Japan. Ace fighter pilots Kao Chih-hang, Liu Tsui-kang, Arthur Chin, Li Kuei-tan, John "Buffalo" Wong, Liu Che-sheng, Le Yiqin, Lu Jichun, Chen Huamin have 54 confirmed kills between them

  • Its bad that this video only gives tribute to the WHITE pilots that were part of the Flying Tigers AVG group. The ORIGIONAL ones were made up of 13 Chinese Americans that answered the call of their Native motherland to help fight the Japanese invaders

    .

  • The Chinese could give a Sh!t that the US saved their @sses from Japan prior to WWII. Today both countries are staunch Opponents.

  • @VitaminC440 You know why? US wants to dominant the world after WW2 1945. 1) US has started too many wars around the world since 1950. 2) Also spent too much on military weaponry and bases around the world. 3) The union and social warefare, as well as the wall street greed and short-sighted politicians had ruined the economy foundings of this once a great nation. You don't have many enemies and, those you think they were, are created by the biased religion, military, and political thinking ....

  • @yliang1688 :

Your facts are diluded. Korea was not started by the US. China started it backed by Russia. Along with Vietnam spreading Communism. My point was excatly said. Japan would have taken China by storm because China had little or no technology to fight back. The US has been called by Oppressed Nations all over to help them. So your reply is moot. Since that is the case you should be grateful instead of complaining. You would probably be speaking Japanese. It's time for US renewal!!

  • Indeed, Chinese are still very grateful (none is complaining) to the help of US AVG and the US ally for fighting the JAPs in the pacific. Unfortunately, in 1949 China had become a communist country after wining the bloody civil war over the KMT. Today's China is different from us. But, is not as evil as you thing compared to the JAPs in ww2. US needs to up-rise to renew its economical strength (not military dominance only). the falling behind of the US is not caused by the rising of the Chinese.

  • @yliang1688

I agree that China is not causing America's decline. Greed and power is, Just like in China and other capitalist countries. The Japanese are being taken care of by mother nature it seems. Maybe a few more earthquakes and Japan will be just a memory?

Any way America needs to take care of it's own issues. Not police the world, Growing up my best friend had the same last name as you. I wish for Peaceful futures for all nations. Wars all end the same way with Needless loss of life.

  • @VitaminC440 Agree with your keen observations on how to re-vitalize the US economy and the wish for Peaceful futures for all nations, no more wars. Wish you, my friend and all of us, a best new year of 2012!!!

  • @yliang1688 THANK YOU!!!

  • @Thaiyakuza nay, the Americans were only friends with jiang Jie shi, leader of the nationalist party and apparently the head general of the jap invasion. They wouldn't help china if communism took over before 1939.

  • @NoneShaltPass You sounds like a kid ... Need to read and learn more ...

  • before and during the ww2, china and usa are best friends, today, china and usa fighting for the worldleadership...

  • 中华民族不会忘记美国对我们在二战上作出的贡献!

  • they were put into storage. Their end ? Some were blown up during the "Tora, Tora, Tora" movie in 1969-70.

  • I was able to go to the Airport in Taipei and see the old aircraft still in service. I ended up in Navy and became an aircraft mechanic , which I stiil do at 60 for the USCG. When I retired from the Navy I worked for a millionaire aircraft collector, and actually worked on a P-40 project. It is one tough aircraft, and really built to take a beating. John Waynes planes ? They were all dummies , steel tubing & plywood. The Army would not let them use real ones, so after the movie

  • My Grandfather Andrew J.Hall flew with Clare Chenault just after WW1 in the mid 20s. My Grandfather was an Army Air Service aerial photographer. They were flying out of Kelly Field in Texas, and had a few adventures. My Grandfather became a San Diego motorcycle policeman . Many of the photos in the Chenault library were taken by my Grandfather. Upon his passing in 1954, my Aunt personally gave Gen. Chenault boxes of photos for his library. Many years later we lived in Taiwan, and

  • @redr1150r There's a Chenault memorial in Hualian AFB, Taiwan, home of the ROCAF 5th TFW, formerly part of the Chinese-American Composite Wing, 14th Air Force. They were the first unit to convert to P-51D/K Mustang in 1944. On May 31 1945, the 5th FG Mustangs shot down 10 Japanese Ki-84 Hayate "Frank" with no loss to themselves.

  • @yliang1688

My Highest Salute to American Soldiers and flying tigers,we have been fighting alongside the allies,we won the little Japs!

  • I think this is Taiwan, not China.

  • @hlwanmoe1981

In fact, Taiwan goverment is called Republic of China, it was the real democracy chinese goverment before 1949 ,but we was defeated by communist in this year , then we retreat to Taiwan until today .

  • @ho800905my, so that means Communist China invaded into Nationalist China, the president was Chan Key Sheik (spelling maybe wrong), KMT party? at that time, no one helped?

  • @hlwanmoe1981

    essentially correct

communist got the supply from Soviet and some japan's weapons

    in other side..

Nationlist china didn't get any useful support after WW2 from US

when US had realized soviet's ambition , it was too late. the civil war had out of control.

    we had retreated to taiwan

  • @ho800905my I see. But after many decades now Communist China saying Taiwan is part of China, that means they are claiming ownership without help or doing anything for Taiwan before up to until now. So greedy.

  • @hlwanmoe1981

    it's the politics show

  • @ho800905my okie...I got it.

  • My grandpa was a pilot in the CACW and proudly flew under the command of Chennault. He recently passed away and is the inspiration and motivation for me to serve in the military as well. Just joined the USCG. rest in peace gramps...thanks for the vid

  • @bunshinman Cool! Did he fly the near-suicidal route known as The Hump? That's some cojones there.

  • @milvipes I know he flew bomber escort, first with the p-40 and then the p-51. his distinguished flying cross and congressional air medal are now on display in the CHinese hall of Heros :D ill have to ask around my family in china to get the details on where he flew. i so proud to be a part of this tradition :]

  • This is a great video. I think the P-40 is the scariest looking plane of WWII. The enemy pilots must have feared it. It's also nice to see that some Chinese people haven't forgotten the Americans that helped them defend their homeland. Although I don't always agree with the Chinese government I think the people are wonderful and their history is amazing. Thanks for the great video!

  • Chinese people never forget american help in WWII.

  • I heard the new chinese fighter jets come equiped with an automatic rice dispenser for the pilot....pretty sick

  • As a Chinese,i would like to thank the U.S. for standing by us even though we were weak and for helping us protecting our beloved country.Ultimate respect to all the troops who died.Even if we had lost the war,our troops fought for good while Japan fought for evil. That alone is more important that winning the war.Allies now and allies forever

  • @HeiligesReich2 - You are too young to be crazy. Sorry for you ...

  • @yliang1688 lol why am I crazy?crazy is chinese

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Col. Robert Lee Scott, one of the better known Flying Tigers (2nd in command for a while), and author of "God is My Copilot", made into a movie in 1944 starring Dennis Morgan. A true southern gentleman, he was the force behind the creation of one of the better AF Aircraft Museums at Robins AFB GA. Has an excellent P-40 section. Col. Scott, who retired as a Major Gen., died a few years ago in his nineties.

  • Wow, very nice images of the Curtiss P40Bs and Later versions, When the movie, starring John Wayne was released, the supposed fighters used were suppose to look like P40Bs with 2x.50cal Machine Guns in the nose and 4x.30cal in the wings, later models had 6x .50 cal, three in each wing. I just watched the flying tigers " dogfights " videos before coming to this one, Yilang, do you live in mainland china, or do you live in Taiwan?

  • Dear @HunterR909, thanks for your kind inputs. I left China in late 1949, grew up in Taiwan, and went to grad school in Baltimore. Currently retired in Phoenix.

  • @yliang1688 Wow, talk about traveling, I've seen vids on youtube about the rail service in taiwan., I'm also a bit of a Train buff, too.

  • saluted to the American help to defend China!!

  • The song after 2:50 is the Anthem of Republic of China Air Force.

  • The person on the far left looks like my grandfather, who flew with the AVG; George A. Crittenden

  • Very good job on this. What made you decide to make it?

  • Thank you for this. I never had a chance to meet my uncle.

  • They got paid 3 times more in China than they did working for the US air force. Still a good effort though.

  • thank you America for defend china

  • Thank you USA, for helping the Chinese to fight the Japs in WW2.

  • Awee, you guys do your self a disfavor, the tigers never would of achieved what they did with out the wide spread support of the Chinese people. none the less its very touching to hear that said.

  • Outstanding. Thanks!

  • Flying for ever

  • yliang, please do me a favour, what is the name of the third song in the video. Thanks in advance!

  • Dear auxair, "杯酒高歌" is the name of the third song. It was one of the most popular patriotic songs created duirng the 2nd Sino-Japs war between 1937 ~ 1945.

  • Dear yliang - grateful for point me to the solution of this (to me) historical puzzle!

    Much, much obliged!!!

  • What is the song during the middle segment at about 3 min ?

  • This is the "Chinese Airforce Marching Song" composed by Mr. S A Liu during 1945~6 right after the final victory of the 2nd Sino-Japs war (1937~1945). It was one of the several "ROC Airforce Songs" commissioned by the ROC Airforce dept. to celebrate the ROCAF Victory over WW2.

  • AVG claimed 43 Japanese aircraft destroyed on air combat during 14 and 15th February in 1942.

But only four Ki-27 and single ki-21 were confirmed by JAAF loss reports.

An AVG is a liar how!

  • Why are all the comments marked down and spam..?

Anyway good video. Hope for China and US allies once again in future.

  • Thanks, OlderG0ds, for viewing the Flying Tigers. Indeed, I also do hope US and China will be allies once again - just like we had fought side-by-side together against the Japs during ww2. As to the down marking in the comments, one possiblity is that some of Japs right-wing guys just don't like China and US be friends. We take it as a grain of salt - Good Day!!!

  • My Father served in the flying tigers stationed in Kunming. He played softball with General Chenault and saw General Chiang Kai-shek and Madame Chiang Kai-shek many times on the base. He enjoyed taking photos of China, its children and people. He always spoke highly of China and the people he met there. He recently passed away at 86. Thank you from me and also from my Father, I'm sure, for your tribute to the Tigers.

  • @ATigersSon We appreciate your help.

  • 好感動噢! 謝謝分享.

  • Flying Tigers forever... AVG is my most favorite group in WWII. All of their mission around Pao-Shan, Ding-han, Kchun-ming...simply amazing score and tactics. And all those brave guys - Lee Chennault, Tex Hill, Robert " Bob" Scott etc.

"Ding Hao" guys, you are still "the best"

  • thank you to all the family and members of American flying Tigers for helping my birth Country

  • Very nice video. Probably the best tribute to the p-40. One of my favorite ww2 fighters. Technically obsolete on paper, but toughness, fire power, and armor were under appreciated except by the ones who flew it. A lot of pilots actually preferred it over other newer planes because it was tough and better protected the pilot. I also have a large scale radio control model of it that I love to fly. Just like the real one, it will tip stall if I fly too slow so I have to be careful.

  • these guys are so awesome

  • The wild Blue Younder!

  • Due to the ridiculously stringent private aviation regs in both mainland China & Taiwan, not even one P-40 is maintained flyable on this side of the Pacific.

  • i have a book about the flying tigers, it is published in 1942. hail to a.v.g.

  • USAF and Chinese Air Force music, so well blended. So awesome.

  • 不错,飞虎队很牛

  • Dear claire409tdi: You great great uncle, General Claire L Chennault (陳纳德) was a real hero during the WW2 fighting against the JAPS aggressors in China during the early 40s. His leadership of the Fei Hu AVG, and Aces including Hohn Rossi, David Lee "Tex" Hill, Robert Smith, and Johnnie Alisson, to names a few, had made the history and, will be remembered forever!!!

  • claire lee chenault is my great great uncle!

my name is claire louise chenault!

  • 難得ㄧ見 長眼 感謝
