you are a joke saying that. unless you are a high end commercial photographer you will NEVER need to print anything larger than 12mpx, what nikon did instead of increasing pixel count, is they improved the quality over those 12mpx. If you need anything larger there is D3x or you would most likely go for a medium format camera. Both Nikon and Canon makes excellent cameras, each with different models for different purpose.

A lot of canon people have freaked out about this whole D3 craze and have said things like "What's going to happen to Canon?" Nikon made up the whole "Canon's people are worried about the new D3", and Canon is not worried. Canon will never die to Nikon because people go to Canon not for the equally good DSLR bodies, but for the fantastic lenses that Canon makes and Nikon won't catch up to. Nikon will never produce a lens with equal sharpness and detail as the EF 300mm f/2.8 IS L - series lens.

A lens like the Nikkor 14-24 is hard to beat for any others too though... There's no camera on the market that can match the performance on high ISO rates either. Another example, the Nikkor 70-200 VR is at least as good as Canon's 70-200 IS. I tried both and DAMN it's even better!

using a DX format , (24x36mm) the 24-70 mm AF-S f.2,8 is the most versatile wideangle zoom for the D3 or any Nikon's cameras using a full frame sensors. Morever the 14-24 is vignetting under 17 mm ( on the F-F corners).

an appropriate choice could be

D3

24-70mm AF-S f 2.8

70-200mm VR II f 2.8

SpeedLight SB 800

Nontheless, some freelance coworkers are still using the D200 or the Canon Eos 1D for example & they're doing a fu***** great job with those old equipment... hehehe
