A beautiful lady, with a magnificent voice, she is still loved here in the UK, no one is brave enough to address eating disorder in the music industry, she was a "product", God Rest her Soul, may she Rest in Peace
@CleesieWeesie The time when writer's used to write from their heart and the artists used to sing from their heart is over. This is the reason nobody can make songs like this anymore.
Nowadays I buy this records, Now and then; A song for you etc. In the early days we se them as lightweighted material, but now in my late fifties I do love Karen´s soft beautiful voice and Richard´s playing as well. Thanks to you really.
she die young but her songs will live as long as wer here loving it ang sing her songs....coz her songs are songs for us and It's only just begun.....
Richard Carpenter would have done a great job performing a song or two at the Royal wedding, however if our own president isen't even invited, well you see what I'm saying. I could see The Carpenters doing We've only just begun, so fitting for a Royal beginning.
Too bad we live in a world where people have to write books about other people's misfortune & make other people out to be villians instead of just enjoying the music that was recorded for everyone to enjoy. Despite what you read friends The Carpenter family was close. Remember when the paparazzi followed princess Diana, & see what what sadly happened that night, well Randy Schmidt is doing the same thing to Karen Carpenter, except Karen's no longer with us,so fans get to endure all this crap.
What a great talent and, a great lost. She had such lovely voice. Karen thought she was fat because she had read an article which mentioned she was chubby and that led to her becoming anorexic and then dying from heart failure at the age of 32. I used to love The Carpenters and have seen The Karen Carpenter story several times.
When you think of the book Little Girl Blue & the emphasis to make Richard Carpenter look like the bad guy, isen't it sad what the world has come to... Have you, or me not made mistakes in Life, or said if I knew then, what I know now. The most important think that I could share that I'm most certain about is that Richard Loved Karen more than anything on earth. Many don't respect the book, but it doesn't mean were going to put Randy Schmidt's home address on You Tube even thought we have it.
@xxtiffanyxbabixx i'm fifty and i still love it after all these years.lol i have nieces and nephews ur age, and they all know who the carpenters were.lol soundslike u have a great dad.
@melvinhartwinkle the illness is physcological....she was never fat but in her head she was. Not a nice illness at all but at least now it is recognised where in KC's day it wasn't really. Beautiful woman, beautiful voice, beautiful talent... I love her on the drums! Best female drummer ever!!
I love this song. I'm glad such a great person got to experience all that she did before she left us. It was wonderful to have her lul me to sleep as a child every night. She's sadly missed by so many people. Only the good die young. Rest in Peace
i'm 16 and this song reminds me of my mom and I driving to church to meet my dad to give him his lunch in frankfort Michigan. love the song and i'm sorry that was random.....=)
this song reminds me of when my mum picked me up from school and she played this full blast singing away in the car lol , and i love this song. i am 14 ! lol
I watched a documentary about a year ago and her doc at the time had her on thyroid hormone! Can you believe that? What a moron, giving an anorexic something that will cause her to lose weight! No wonder her heart gave out.
Her doc was probably worried her heart would stop altogether from not having any thyroid hormone, and so he was in a catch 22. So it wasn't really that he was a moron I guess, he was probably at his wits end trying to keep her well. It's sad and I wouldn't have wanted to be in his place.
Downey was famous for North American Rockwell (where the Apollo Command Modules were built) and the Carpenters, they probably had relatives working there.
I adore this joyful song. wonder why they didn't fix the end where the steel and the tambourine are out of sync. It wasn't hip to like them at my age but like Abba, everyone did anyhow. most musicians have both in the cd collections!
The Star that shines twice as bright only lasts half as long ..and my God did she shine ..Excellent stuff my favourites Solitaire ..Some music was meant to be carved into stone and this will be around a very long time ..God Bless her
If Karen was still alive today,I am sure and convinced that she would still be singing - we lost a great, kind and charming singer back in 1983,god bless her.
I was a kid when these songs were popular. A friend's family had a player piano with reels for all of the Carpenter songs. She and I would sit for hours, watching the keys and singing our hearts out. Joyful memories. My deepest sympathies to Richard and all of her family.
There will never be another duo like these two. Perfect harmonies, great melodies, great production - pure American pop at it's absolute best. Up there with ABBA for well-constructed, memorable pop songs with great harmonies, but a richer, darker sound. That voice.
