I've flown in September 1987 as a passenger with this particular helicopter at the Oldtimer-Airshow Hahnweide near Stuttgart/Germany. A fantastic experience! All the best for the pilot, Mr. Bernd Hauber and his S-58, also to Mr. Eddy Brokken!
Bedankt voor het delen van deze Prachtige video , je vader moet wel emoties gehad hebben tijdens die vlucht , het geluid alleen al geeft je kriebels . thanks for sharing , regards , guido .
Wow - great to watch. Herr Hauber is a very experienced pilot but was happy to let your dad take over for a bit. Herr Brokken has done his fair share too and I was happy to see him fly for the first time in so long.
@exitbb indeed. I'm now a great fan of our belgian Sea Kings (wich belong now to the 40sth SQN Helicopter Koksijde) , but i have still mountains of respect for the Siko Pilots. Hope your father enjoyed his flight.
Thank you all very much for sharing this. It is my favorite helicopter......and its nice to see some old guys flying and having a good time.....this is one of the best vids on youtube. It should be on discover channel.
Way cool that you did that for ur dad. We did the same for mine shortly befor he passed away, It had been almost years but he flew that jet ranger like it yeasterday. Befor that a B-25 ride. Glad to see an old pilot happy. God bless from Texas.
Thanks so much for putting this on. I flew a 34-d in Vietnam with the US Marine Corps and later flew the S-55 (sort of like going even back more in time in civilian life in the Canadian Arctic. Kind of rough but I always felt it would get me home. Great memories and a great sound.
When I was about 6, I used to hear this kind of helicopter starting their engines in Sumthong, Laos. That cranking sounds used to frighten me alot. I would seek the assurance of my mom every early morning.
Even if I wasn't such a fan of rotorcraft, I'd find this a totally delightful video! Your Father looked like he thoroughly enjoyed himself. This had to be a very special experience for him! I'm actually a bit jealous. I'd love to ride in an S-58. I do have a question. Can you please give me the artist and title of the music track playing in the background? Thanks and great video!!
I was stationed in Fulda Germany with the 58th Engineers at Downs Barracks from 1960 to '63 and the H-34 pilots used to let me fly with them on border patrol if there were no brass going as long as I was in uniform.I have some pics of the east german border from the copter rides on the weekends when I was able to go.This is a great video and brings back memories of the old days.Ron G

With no prop to "pull through", How did pilots clear the run down oil from the bottom cylinders, prior to start-up?
