RIP JMC, I see a new facebook group for 2 DH riders who died recently called ride in peace, thought about reminding them about JMC but I doubt they will even know who I'm talking about. I remember getting Steve Peat to sign my JMC poster at a bike show prob 98.
awsome!!!! got the video in the attic just nothing to watch it on. used to watch this once a week atleast!!! along with the posters on my wall and the mbuk sticers on my bike haha
These were the days. No grips, broken seat; no problem. Duct tape solved all that! Forget sloping tubes, we called then nut crackers. This was grunge on wheels mate!
no body gets it nowadays this is my child hood where it all started! didnt u just love the free stickers mbuk gave away and who can remember milk levers? and the birth and death of the flexi stem. happy days
There's so much i could comment on in hindsight about this video, but the most important thing is that it shaped my life by showing me that i should just go out there and have fun! Don't take anything too seriously!
It's such a shame that people have lost track of the message that this Nirvana of MTB videos gives out.
Even though they are riding on a pretty flat field the guy's enthusiasm, personality and energy makes me want to go out and ride like mad every time I see this!
There's a mad cliff/drop thing in the woods in Chester le Street that we used to call the JMC, apparently he rode it straight down with no problems, what a legend. That's mountain biking, them woods will always be sacred for that and many other reasons.
This video inspired me to start mountain biking and after watching Jason put his Specialized FSR through its paces, I went out and bought one myself. Its 15 yrs old now and still going strong! Everyone refers to it as 'the Jason McRoy bike', such an awesome rider and a very untimely death. RIP Jason
Omg. I remember playing this to death about 15 Years ago? Just went out and bought a specialized rockhopper. Been wanting to get back into riding for ages. This video is an inspiration. Please NEVER remove it. Thanks for uploading it. Any idea if u can buy it anywhere?
i still have the VHS from the mag i bought in 95! going to have to dig it out after watchin this clip. magic video! inspired me to get into moutain biking! just getting back into it again after a 10 year absence!
Whoooah, what a blast from the past! I remember getting this video and watching it over and over and over again. I also remember meeting Jason at a bike show when i was a kid. What a dude!
my godfather scott dommett. legend. britsh downhill mountain bike champion at the time and im the british no6 bmx racing champ for my age this year. hes the rider in the red by the way
I have a copy of Dirt and gonna have to watch it all again! Chain Spotting...no idea where that one went think i copied over it with some porn on channel 4 at 1 in the morning! haha! so gotta dust off the bike again and rally up the old troops!
jeez i remember watching this back to back when it came out.. my favorite bit was jez avery riding doubles on his proflex - what was the track behind his bit?
Just sold my bmx to return to 26ers after a 4 year dry spell..been riding since 91..I just watched Mudcows and Mudcows 2 burning calfs, and getta grip. i cant for my life find my copy of dirt.. i heard its available on Dvd now? Rip Jmc
I'm just getting back into MTB after an twelve year dry spell, I remember watching this at a mates house, good days. I had chainspotting in VHS but I think I may have left it round a friends house :( I'm trying to get another copy of it but it's rare as rocking horse poo lol.
noooooooooo waaaaaaaay! these guys were my heroes in my teenage biking days. im gonna have to dig in mothers attic i think and find my vhs! legendary stuff :-)
I've still got Getta Grip, Mudcows and Chainspotting on video. MBUK was like a bible to me and my mates, we could take a look at someones bike and reel off just about every component on it!
Still into Mountain Biking just not as devoutly into MBUK as I used to be.
Wow, remember buying this on VHS when I was 13. Still looks cool as hell. Planning to get back into mtb now i moved to the peak district. Sometimes wonder if mtb was a teenage 90s fad but I guess thats just coz I've not pulled a wheelie since 96! Never realised back then quite what a pioneer JMC was for British MTB. Looking for a new bike now. Gotta be a specialized like JMC (a newer one of course!). Oh and do they still make the legendary crud catchers or were they a genuine 90s fad!
jmc is a legend! hope he gets a mention in mbuk next month in the 20th anniversary! he must have sold hundreds of thousands of issues! wished id kept mine. im sure he will be resurrected in the paradise!
Brings back a lot of memories. Also makes you feel kinda old. Feel good movie and looks kinda tame compared to todays `jumping off the empire state building` videos but good none the less.
This video still rocks. I was heavily into mountain biking at this time. That was THE time for me. I met all the guys several times and Jason was a top bloke. The MTB scene changed a great deal after JMC's accident. I just couldnt feel connected to Steve Peat and the other up and commings in the same way. My old GT RTS2 got nicked with the JMC / MBUK stickers on. Gutted. JMC Ride Free....
Excellent!! I can remember watching this when it came out and it defined that era of mountain biking... in the good old days when the bike show was at earls court and there were some real characters in MBUK.. what ever happened to them all? does anyone know?? There just doesnt seem to be the same buz nowdays... where are the characters today?
Dirt, Mud Cows etc. Guys what happened! I havn't been on a bike for years. Wouldn't be the same now anyway, too much bullshit, like everything else. To all the 90's teenagers now feeling quite old: This ones for us.
As many have commented before me about JMC, an inspiration to many riders. I wonder just how many people have 'the tattoo' as a mark of respect. A lot is the answer. A true loss but as I once read in an interview,(not a direct quote so forgive me if it's slighlty wrong) 'maybe he's completed this level of the game and is now on a higher level doing greater things'. Ride free JMC........
great film and like others it got me in to mountian biking big time. JMC was a true legend and he inspired many riders pro and average mountian bikers and will always be part of mountian biking.
I would like to say . . .I am very much in this video! Take another look. This was a fun video to shot and also one of the last things i ever did with Jason. The last thing we ever did together was race for Great Britian at the European Championships in 1995. Just a few days after returning we lost him. He was fun, happy and fast to be around.
Every day of summer of my early teens my mate would come round we'd watch dirt then go play in the quarry on bikes til sun down. This is my youth Man! JMC was a legend and truly ahead of his time, and a tragic loss. Respect.
Dirt is a great film he was my realation as my nanas son i wish he was here today as he would be really cool i think about him all the time i think he is a really great gut !!! repect !!! i was at steave peats house its well good
never forgotten, jason mcroy was without a doubt a huge loss to mountain biking, he inspired me to ride - simply that, riding for the fun of it. Thanks JMC godspeed.
i know at least 3 people who have it on vhs. its not that rare...most people who rode back then,.especially in the uk..probably have a copy somewhere.
Man I've be hoping someone would put this up it makes me so nostalgic, riding back in the 90's kids laugh at this now!! Jason was a god still think of him to this day, his attitude was so right... thanks!
I've got a box full of Betacam Master tapes of this film in my loft, I was the cameraman, it was edited on one of the first ever digital editing systems available hence the sketchy image quality, although the original tape look great. It was a good laugh to work on though, a few tantrums here and there!
I read somewhere MBUK were looking for the originals with a view to releasing this on DVD? No idea how old that article is though, may be worth giving them a bell.
RIP JMC, I see a new facebook group for 2 DH riders who died recently called ride in peace, thought about reminding them about JMC but I doubt they will even know who I'm talking about. I remember getting Steve Peat to sign my JMC poster at a bike show prob 98.

None of the posing " I r durt jumpur" shit that goes on today.
