Just wanted to say this and another of your mark V videos are what got me to buy this amp. I love it but would never have known to even try it without this video. Thanks OLA!
@octavarium2457 at that price point, it usually isn't about which amp is "better". It's about the sound you're going for. Soldano in general tends to be more modded Marshall kind of sound. Mark V is classic Mesa tone. Just depends on what you want because both can do metal and jazz/blues.
What are your thoughts on the Roadster cab vs the Rectifier? I see the Roadster has the closed/open back combination. Going to try them both soon but would appreciate your thoughts. Thx.
@fearedse I think I may break down and have one soon. I may give up waiting on the AXEFXII since I got on the waiting list the second day and I'm starting to think it will be 2012. Anyway, maybe see you at NAMM. Booked the Embassy Suites down the street today for everyday.
I go through all your demos and still love how damn tight this amp is. I played one at guitar center a few weeks ago and as soon as you take that mid eq fader and pull it down it's the shit. I tweaked it at the store not knowing how to set it then came home and did some research and saw I dialed it up about exactly how Petrucci does. Which I'm sure is close to where you have it. It must be the universal tweak to make it kill.
@schlagdog For the Dream Theater cover I did I had about the same settings as shown in the petrucci video. But yeah I agree with everything you say. It's an awesome amp. One of my fave...
Some people might not like the tightness and dryness of the Mark V, but the thing is, they cut through the mix SO WELL that when you are with a band either live or on a recording, the amp sounds absolutely PERFECT. And if you like the dryness and tightness of the amp, then its a win-win situation.
dude!you should do some metal pedal demos.like you do the amps, but pedals.i wanna see if you can find your incredible metal tone in any pedal, cuz i want it.
@fearedse Hi! I just wonder how loud you need to keep your amps to get a decent recording tone? Or do you have any mic pre-amps between Sm57 and Apogee?
this amp sounds awesome. you don't get that muddy tone the recto gives you and you can hear the actual character of the particular guitar being used. very tight palm mutes, sounds amazing. some people apparently prefer the iv?
I'm curious to hear what this sounds like with a Tube Screamer in front of it. When it's raw, it reminds me of Mark's/Willie's tone from LOG. I fucking hate their tone.
@pmgallant Yeah, I use to love the LOG tone also, but now its too raw and thrashy, Im lovin the tone Ola gets out of the Engl Savage, and Misha's tone from Periphery, having played this amp with a ts9 in front of it, It sounds fucking amazing, but was not modern enough as I like,, though it can get very modern, having said that, a compressor in front also may help, but having too many pedals kinda bugs me haha.
I still prefer the raw feel of a Recto myself. I own a Mark V and a Dual, and find the dual has a bit more of a ballsy crunch to it, as its a bit looser. The Mark V is devastating for leads though!
@s3177000 Overpriced? You mean the Mesa Boogie Line? They are great USA made Amps. I had to order my Mesa Roadster Head and had to wait 7 weeks while it was being made. They also have good resale value. If you don't have a lot of money to spend get a Blackstar Venue Series Stage 100 Head for about $850.00 3 Channels and it sounds great.
@s3177000 What exactly is your ordeal, fucktard? You start out bitching about the price of Mesa amps, but then can't hack a conversation about the validity of your opinion. If you weren't such an ass, I might feel sorry for you being mentally handicapped. So I'm going to continue to claim that you don't know what you're talking about, since it's been made more than clear that all you have to back up your claims is ad hominem distraction ploys. Troll indeed.
@fearedse Thanks Ola, I got my picks in the mail today, and I really love em. I was using a Jazz III's but swapping to a regular tortex for rhythms, but this thing has both ends covered but better. I was thinking it would be too pointy for rhythm but its really accurate... Cheers dood!
Hey Ola. What strings do you use? I am asking because I tend to sweat a lot and my strings corrode really fast, making the tone lack crunch and feel dull. I 've used Slinkies, D'Addario, DR... Any recommendations?
@dimgrav You might wanna try the titanium slinkies. They should last you for around 1-1,5 month. I've never tried the elixir but i've heard good things about them so you might wanna give them a go :)
@espltdguitarlover Thanks man, I already do that and still... Anyway, I guess I have to change strings more often, though I already change them every 3 weeks... :/
@earlerylander It might not be 100% correct all the time but I do not think you could get such a monstrous bass frequency response with TS9's type of boost. At least I find it shaving up my tone's lows and probably why they came out with the ts9dx plus mods.
@xuan8839 While this may be true, generally the way a TS9 reacts and compresses the low end tightens the tone up, and this is why it's used a lot of the time.
@stevenfaustuk Guess that says it.After years of TS type of boost now I rather prefer a more "colorless" clean boost..though I do like the mids of TS.
Why are they selling any amp but this one?
