  • What section of Philadelphia is at 1:54?

  • Anyone find that the music really goes with the video in an eery, sad way

  • this my city the real hood

  • Philly is my home. Don't make fun of my home or i'll get Billy Penn to beat you up.

  • at 3.22 thas my hood 17th& tioga northphilly all day

  • yo if u tryna come at philly come down here an see wat we like

  • dooky ass place

  • Yes the pictures in this video have to be really old. Passyunk Homes was torn down years ago, and the houses at the end of the video on Parkside Avenue have been rehabed and are part of the West Phila. Empowerment Zone corridor. Still, Philly has a long way to go as far as eliminating urban blight. Sad thing is that if these neighborhoods are ever cleaned up they will be bought up by developers and regentrified, creating a bigger problem for low income residents. Its a sad, vicious cycle.

  • Looks like Bmore to me

  • @synjerome this whole video is showing one area of philly... NORTH PHILLY, which is just one section of one of the ten largest cities in America. no, this is not our downtown, which is known as CENTER CITY. Uptown in philly is a slang term that refers to yet another area of town, MT. AIRY and WEST OAK LANE, which are actually very aesthetically pleasing areas. philly is still grimey tho .

  • some ill ass graffiti in this vid

  • Hell hole of a city

  • philly is being cleaned up. a lot of rehabbing going on now

  • FUCK PPD

  • Comment removed

  • Holy Shit 5:55 what happened there????????

  • Im pretty sure this is REALLY OLD because the Passyunk Homes [2:13-2:24] were demolished in 2002. also, alot of these photos are ones Eugene Martin took in 2005. Since then, Philly's crime has gone down over 15% from 2007-2008 alone.

  • @chriskoz14ify Yet the murder rate went back up again in 2011. I photograph a lot of Philly's blight. For every vacant building knocked down two more pop up. This city is falling apart and I am not trying to disrespect anyone, cause I live in pretty bad hood myself, but this city is 30 years away from being a decent city as a whole, and that's only if it was being cleaned up for the next 30 years constantly. That won't happen.

  • Life after people!

  • ayee were we from ?

  • If you were really from philly, you would have shown all of philly not just north.

  • this video is mad old because most of the pics shown don't look that way now. most of the neighborhoods as been rebuilt and looks A LOT better

  • 0:39 - is THAT a fucking policeman standing on the roof?

  • Why r you not showing uptown? The whole Philly does not look like this..geesh

  • @kween4life YOU MEAN THIS IS YOUR DOWNTOWN!? My god, Philadelphia is horrible.

  • poor beautiful city begging for redemption. this is what comes from putting a goverment into power who look like you but when they get their bribe money run off to neighborhoods where they don't. wake up philadelphia, before the eternal sleep of surrender overtakes you !

  • BORN AND RAISED IN PHILLY AND LOVED EVERY MINUTE !!!!!!!

  • Philly has a wonderful Art Museum. Makes me think of a time back in 89 when we had a field trip in college there and I went to North Philly by myself to take pictures of a NY Graffiti Artist's piece that I thought was gonna be in the movie Rocky 5 lmao was an adventure. At times we'll leave NJ and go back to visit the museum and it's lovely :)

  • I hate it when non-philadelphians see news bout philly and all the y see are the violence and the old beat up neighborhoods. Yes there are some dangerous and ghetto areas in philly, but not all of philly is like that. There are plenty of really nice neighborhoods with friendly people that get along. Outsiders dont see all of the good aspects of philly, just the bad. I believe that every city has its pros and cons, even New York, Chicago, and LA. Get to know the city before u judge.

  • @MrSaxman19 yeah there are so many beautiful parts. I'll personally take Philly over smoggy LA anyday. Its come such a long way from the 80s and 90s!

  • @MrSaxman19 Just got back from my 1st visit in Philly 1/2012. I've traveled enough to have an ability gauge a cites cleanliness & understand pros/cons. PHILLY=The dirtiest place...that I have seen in my life. That's an understatement. Can't wait to do some research as to why the city has these undeniable socioeconomic problems. Def has culture, but is overwhelmingly repelling to people who don't come from dirty places. Philly makes the dirtiest streets in NC look like Rodeo Dr.

  • @MrSaxman19

Well, but there's actually just kinda 10 cities worse than philly in the country, in terms of criminal rates, violence in the ghettos, unemployment and etc, like Detroit, Flint, Vegas, New Orleans, Camden, St Louis and some more

  • the white man is responsible for the ghetto's, when he moves out and dey move in the neighborhood goe's to hell, so it be his fault. no-wat-i'm-sayin

  • At 1:10, the tallish building on the lower right hand corner is the Divine Lorraine Hotel. You can't tell from this distance, but it has gorgeous architecture. It's also been boarded up for decades. Pity.

  • smh alot of parts of philly doe's look like this i came from the Westpark projects in Westphilly and they change but when you go to the bottom' and Up girard its nasty but I People say Philly doesnt ' have nothing on st louis liee I live here and One weekend It was 33 shootings and 8 killed remind yall that we Dont have gangs like Chi. Detroit . OR new york'

  • ed rendell ordered a street cleanup about a year ago and now the city looks a little bit better

  • phillys not that bad of a city, its just that people don't give a fuck about what it looks like

  • They don't call it Filthadelphia for nothing!

  • @dpclark31 dumb ass, philly might be bad but try comparing it to st louis, or detroit, or new york, or oakland, or dallas, or atlanta, or baltimore, or new orleans. it just dosnt compare.

  • @TheUltimatePhillyFan

is richmond, virginia really bad? ive only been there twice and it scared me pretty bad. im going to college there. can you give me any information on what life is like in downtown richmond? id be very thankful.

  • @parfitt21 dud i live in virginia beach but ive been to richmond plenty of times , only problem there is lil kids tryna act hard , but rlly there jus a bunch a pussys , u gott nottin to worry about

  • @Goonsout16 LMAO your fucking stupid if you think that oakland is such a shit hole it makes the ENTIRE west coast look like absolute shit and dallas is a shithole as it is, oakland always gets top 3 in any crime related poll, philly? uhmmm not even in the top 25 LMAO!!! tard boy

  • @TheUltimatePhillyFan lmao philly got more homicides than oakland and dallas put together so wtf r u talkin bout dickhead n philly go harder than any of them cities u named nyc, detroit, atl, b more, n the N.O. u wouldnt come to philly talkin dat dum shit matter fact u prolly 2 pussy 2 come here @ all

  • @Goonsout16 ok mr dumb fucking tard

  • @TheUltimatePhillyFan N yea i was right in 2010 oakland and dallas combined had 242 homicides n Philly was in the 300s dickface

  • @Goonsout16 doubt it you deusional fuck

  • @TheUltimatePhillyFan look it up fuck face

  • like what the fuck , why yall taking pictures of burned cars , messed up houses , and trashy lots ? , philly dont even look like that on the low , you making it seems like all the lots , houses and building look like dis

  • wow...all that glamour....God how i miss all this...

  • what neighborhoods were these?

  • Reminds me of Paterson, & Jersey City, & Newark, New Jersey. Excelently shot video.

  • Comment removed

  • HOODNATION!!!!!

  • This is a vacation compared to NYC in the 1980's. Philly is small buildings 3 stories few taller, small 2 storie rowhomes. Very few high rises not that many at all. NYC got blocks and blocks of Highrise project buildings 6 stories at the smallest. 8 stories and taller highrise project building all over Bronx and Brooklyn. Newark, Jersey City got alot of highrise project buildings to, and North Jersey and NYC is built different everthing up here is taller like the buildings and duplexes.

  • @311brusier alot of parts of brooklyn is a cake walk now n the bronx too n in the 80's philly was worst than what it is now so u aint sayin nothin

  • @wrather i live in philly to and i hate it..lmao its peice of shit and the people are just as bad. You can be in a nice neighborhood in the northeast and theres still drugeys every where!!! i cant stand it

  • @Smokeherbs718215

YOU SHOULD MOVE OUT OF PHILLY IF IT BOTHERS YOU THAT MUCH!

  • @Imperial215 i will eventaully :)

  • i live in philadelphia. What a shithole

  • My father grew up in a now blighted neighborhood in Philadelphia. When the neighborhood "changed", people packed up one by one until you'd have to leave if you wanted to get anything for your house at all. Now it seems the children of that generation are moving back to the city in droves and gentrifying the old neighborhoods. Some see it as pushing out the poor, others as reclaiming what was theirs. Seems like a little of both. There are too many architectural treasures to let go to blight.

  • Wow this is dam sweet. Love what you do man! Check out a few of my Philly vids & hit me with a few words of feed back, from one philly guy with a camera to another. Of course I'm no where near your level of professionalism. Your very good! Thanks for posting.

  • I love my city....PHILLY town , USA!! Go birds!

  • Anyone notice the song fits perfectly with the video in an eery way

  • @4624tone Philly Will Win the Superbowl!

  • @762ndTB You know it, peace bro...This is are year, i feel it!

  • what part of philly 5:21 in and what part of philly is 6:11???????

  • what part of philly is 2:24 in???????????

  • North philly is not the spot you want to be in unless you're going to Temple

  • Rican Land BLISS How I miss it getting drugged up and looking at the broads and wall flowers

  • How's public transportation in north Philly? I'm carless. Thanks! Looking forward to moving to P-Town!

  • @pilate10

I wouldn't recommend north philly at all, unless you have a death wish, try northeast philly, a little nicer there.

  • Any good places in north Philly to raise a family? Thanks! I'm looking for a cheap apartment but in a safe area. Thanks!

  • u must read this. once u have started there is no turning back. a little 10 year old girl was raped and murdered in 1945. her body was not fund until 1947. then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message. the dead girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. if you do not copy and paste this onto 10 videos 30 minutes the dead girl will appear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you. well you better start to copy and paste to be saved

  • @MSPTutoring Niggers lol

  • i take it littering isnt illegal in Philly?Lol

  • guess thats where philthadelphia came from. personally i find it beautiful. and yes, whites in philly will stab and shoot. thats one town you just dont want to beef with.

  • great song and video

  • why dont people never show the nice parts of cities. they always show the dumps. is that suppose to be cool or something?

  • @WomanlyAracelis Because the nice parts don't have to be fixed, but the dumpy parts need a lot of fixin. And by the way, not to sound condescending, why did you watch this video? Just curious. =o)

  • the white man don't want dem touring visitors in center city or the movers to know anything about our bad areas. 90 percent of philadelphia only looks like this. nuttn but poor sociality, bad connections with people, selfish liars dat dont support people, evil transit drivers, lying assistants under good agencies or places, people with mental illness, poor school district, overdrawn hardships with families, racism, high tax rate, lack of skills or places for passions, fattest foods, and so on.

  • even the poorest mexican areas in phoenix are kept clean. come one, look at what the blacks are doing. the whites had to move out. even if you are poor you can still take pride in your city. gross!

  • @gondor420 So is Chicago that Poor/ Ghetto Mexicans takes care of their properties as well, they even have 7-11 convenience stores in their areas.

  • Every child in Philadelphia has asthma.

  • if the buildings were knocked down then it wouldve looked like the south bronx in the 80's l;ol nothing beets the s. bronx in the 80's

  • @BROWNSAREAWFUL HEY RACIAL PALE SKIN WHITE SMELLING Rat WHERE SOME WHITE PEOPLE DON'T BATHE, THAT'S WHY GOD BLESSED YOU ALL WITH SMALL PENIS. LOL

  • @BROWNSAREAWFUL yes the jews made it look like that when they migrated here same to the south bronx in the 80"s search the s. bronx in the 80's and if you want to know what happened to the buildings message me

  • @BROWNSAREAWFUL you wanna see an area of philadelphia where white live? it looks similar to this bitch.

  • @BROWNSAREAWFUL

That's an interesting question although slightly prejudice but I have better question.

What decisions made by our political leaders led to this gheto forming?

  • @BROWNSAREAWFUL No the question is did american cities look like this before CIA flooded them with DRUGS??

  • @4624tone Maybe you should ask if the cities looked like this before the niggers moved in

  • @cast390 No, folks took bride to their blocks , so dod police till 80's when drugs and money took priority, color means zero, plenty all white ghettos in philly, just drug plauged..

  • Plain and simple the reason Philly looks like this today is because of all of the mismanagement of its city offices. Ever sice Bill Green was Mayor Philadelphia has been crumbling. Every Mayor has depleted city services and raised taxes and fees and forced people out of the city and yet catered to low income housing and projects to make only area around city hall look good. They don't give 2 shits about the neighborhoods. It's sad and disgraceful.

  • 5:56 this was a block that the city basicly shut down. Drug dealers paid home owners to keep quiet by giving them a cut 'hush money' The block became so profitable that 5 kilos of herion was being sold a day.

  • america's cities went from the richest places on the planet to some of the poorest because of idiotic government policies, the nationalization or companies and businesses, the consolidation of corporations and the decentralization of citizen wealth in suburbia. The historic wealth of our cities can be seen today in our massive highway system, the seas of asphalt parking lots and the miles of suburban subdivisions. The federal government took urban wealth and spent it on creating suburbia

  • ...after the industrial jobs dried up, which didn't allow them to seek higher wage jobs for skilled and well educated populations that were beginning to emerge in the economy. by the 1970s, pretty much all manufacturing jobs were overseas, and domestic high-tech manufacturing was inaccessible. The issues of white flight and deindustrialization in urban centers like philadelphia led to enormous crime rate increases by the late 1960s. drugs made it worse as social degradation has become common

  • the urban industrial boom during world war 2 attracted poor, uneducated, rural blacks from southern agricultural communities to cities in the 40s. At the end of the war, the factories downsized immensely and the established european immigrants were stable enough through several generations of steady employment and housing to take advantage of cheap government mortgages for new federally contracted suburban housing. blacks were barred from suburbs and did not have the education to fall back on...

  • @jhopndontstop You nailed that explanation. I lived in Philly 1996, Looks like there's been a lot of deterioration

    since then.

  • @chinookskier Depends on what part of Philly you're in. There's alot of gentrification going on around Center City, especially in South of South, Hawthorne, Northern Liberites/Fishtown, and around University City. But right next to all of those neighborhoods are ghettos. The worst ones are in north and west philly, and I'd lump Chester in as well, but just across the river is Camden, NJ. Enough said.

  • Im from Philly ,born and raised but, I will be moving soon. When you take a walk down the streets of Philly, all you c is drug dealers and crackheads, and sometimes prostitutes. Drugs and guns have done a job on this city. Philadelphia use to be so much better. Now, there are gangs, drugs, guns, crack fiends, and youth with no guidance.Philadelphia which started as the nation's capital, then became the city of brotherly love, then became filled with violence and drugs, Philadelphia has fallen.

  • Every major city in the U.S. has areas that look like this. The common denominator is Black trash. Everyplace that has a large Black trash population ends up looking like the destroyed cities of Liberia. It has everything to do with cognitive abilities and nothing to do with skin color. There are Black neighborhoods that don't look like this. 30% of American Blacks have I.Q.'s of 100 or higher. Many others have I.Q.'s that are 70 or lower. The latter group is responsible for urban blight.

  • @moojeed Yes every major city in America has suffered from the crack epidemic of the 80's and 90's.

Are you claiming that black people didn't come around until the 80's and 90's?

Because it's common knowledge that shit did not hit the fan untill the CIA flooded the hoods with crack.

It's also common knowlege that they did this in response to the Black Panther movement in the 70's.

And FYI, there's WHITE hoods who caught the "collateral damage" from this war on blacks.

    Your people failed.

  • @motherfucker21fith I was born in Detroit in 1953 and I watched Black trash making great strides in ruining that once great city long before crack came along. Crack just hurried the process along because crackheads and their suppliers don't sleep, so they have 24 hours a day to fuck things up.

Blaming what Black trash does on drugs has no credence with those of us who know their history.

By the way, the Panthers had faded by the early 1970's and crack didn't come along until the early 1980's.

  • @moojeed, my Grandfather was a Detroit cop, he said the 50's were the worst years that happen in detroit.

  • @TheFalconryFan Your grandfather must be a fucking idiot.

  • This video is phenominal.

    Real talk.

  • PhIlyY <3 r3PpiiN Maa ciiTyYYY.

  • @wrather You know it;

  • nice

  • @moojeed The real reason for urban blight (the crack epidemic) is your fucking people in the CIA inventing and distributing crack.

You racist fucktards shot yourselves (and everyone else) in the foot with that one.

You only have yourselves to blame.

  • @motherfucker21fith They have a variety of medications that can help you with your condition, so take off your pointy aluminum foil hat and call a doctor.

  • Comment removed

  • @moojeed Is that your only response?

To tell me to take medication?

What I said is common knowledge.

    You fail.

  • Comment removed

  • @motherfucker21fith I guess you need to have things explained to you that everyone else knows all about. The CIA didn't invent crack, niggers did. South American dope labs make powdered cocaine by treating cocaine freebase with hydrogen chloride, which makes it water-soluble. Free-basers in the 60's and 70's used a solution of lye and water or baking soda and water to neutralize the cocaine HCI, which turns it back into freebase. Crack is just freebase that niggers cut to increase profits.

  • @motherfucker21fith Richard Pryor Used ammonia to nuetralize the HCI and used benzene to pull the base out of the ammonia. Heating base pipes with open flames around benzene would be dangerous when you are straight. Doing it after you have been basing for a few days is damn near suicide. Richard set himself on fire in the late 70's or early 80's and almost died.

I saw Rich White people basing in Santa Barbara, CA in 1971, and it was not a new thing even then.

  • beautiful blight...thank you for documenting....i wanna take it all in..

  • I grew up in south Philly throughout the 80's.

I remember a time before the crack epidemic hit.

It was a entirely different world back then.

    *sigh*

  • @markVIIchick You can blame that on Bush sr's CIA.

It's almost funny how that shit backfired on them leading to white crackheads and lost generations.

    (almost)

  • what you see here is residue from the crack epidemic, there really isn't any excuse for it, no people don't have to gather and conspire when theres a greater and common interest thats being severed even if its a the determent of another group of people, mental slavery and economical servitude is far more dangerous than the logical idea of slavery itself, America needs an underclass, and she will always make sure they'll be one and race has nothing to do it, but it dose make a easier target!

  • i was on google streetview the other day looking at Philly. And every time i looked at a random side street on the west or north side of the city, i would see something like this. Its sad how far Philadelphia has fallen. The city of brotherly love? I think not.

  • Makes me so damn glad to live where I do.

  • It's sad that some of the greatest US cities have this (NY, Philly, Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit, etc)

  • Chilling, yet breathtaking...
