  • this is stunningly good. it is incredible.

  • Ben (at the piano) is not a world class singer and he admits that he is not perfect singing this song. But what Rufus does with this song is absolutely brilliant. Ever heard of improvisation?

  • Reading the posts here, it seems like some of the irony of this performance is lost. Granted, it's probably hard to discern from the video, but this performance is certainly tongue in cheek. Check out Ben's comments at the end.

  • @Abbyover irony??

  • I liked this before they even started singing, sometimes you just know it's gonna be good........and it was sooooooo god XD

  • It's bound to be a little off-key when they're performing live. I honestly don't think it's too bad of a cover. If they were in a studio, I'm sure the sound would be a lot more pure and awesome.

  • I like Ben Folds, but this is horrible...

  • i am a fan but sometimes i think ole' rufus performs while drunk and with a adult toy crammed in his cram-hole!

  • What a brutal slaughtering of an amazingly beautiful song.

  • They're so off-pitch that I thought this was a parody at first.

  • @derpnessify that's funny, because they're not really off-pitch.

  • @sourjack512 Lol just because you're unable to tell that they're off-pitch doesn't mean that they're not off-pitch.

  • @derpnessify What you're hearing is a strong contrast in vocal timbres... these guys are both great musicians, don't even...

  • @dancollinsandapiano Don't even what? Dare question some musicians that you're a fan of? Perhaps they're better than this (I don't know) but this particular performance is very mediocre. And I'm not talking about dissonance caused by disparate timbre, I'm talking about their melodic pitch, especially the piano player. Really, really off. Hell, the first 5 notes of the song are pitchy.

  • @derpnessify I guess I was surprised at how bad you really thought this was. A parody? Come on. They're performing live, probably one of the few times they've sung together, and have seriously different vocal styles. PS, this is a joke to them... you understand that, right? They're not into George Micael...

On their own, they're magnificent, and I'll agree that this doesn't strike the ear equally as well as their solo work, however there's no way you can claim that this is "so off-pitch."

  • @derpnessify no one said you had to like it...

  • Great song, love to listen to covers of this George Michael classic!

  • This is the greatest thing since ever. So funny.

  • Oh good Lord no. Just NO. I am sure Ben Folds and of course Rufus are excellent in their own right, but no. Not Careless Whisper, not like this. Rufus' voice is all wrong for it. Sometimes you just shouldn't meddle with perfection. Careless Whisper is one of those songs.

  • @LadyMisty "No. Not Careless Whisper. Not like this." Lol, I feel your pain. I was so excited when I found this video, too! The *idea* of Rufus singing this song is so great - I really wish it had worked out better : / .

  • Two great musicians...it only makes sense for them to work together.

  • GOOSEBUMP TYPE SHIT!

  • Ahh Youtube rants, gotta love em...

  • This is BRILLIANT! My night is complete!

  • 'Dat falsetto harmony at 3.11

Good god, give me a second to pick my pants up off the floor.

    Loves

  • *sigh*

  • About 7 years ago, the world was made a better place when Rufus and Ben performed together.

  • haha, i love it.

  • Yeah bromingo, yet somehow it's still awesome.

  • neither of them can sing this song really...

  • to cool, ben folds

  • Not bad:)

  • I saw them do this a few years ago at The Fox in St. Louis....it was sublime.

  • wonder and sweet song a

  • 0:15 can anyone make a gif out of it?

  • I love Rufus Wainwright, mostly because he was raped and he's still awesome.

  • Ben Folds is above the law.

  • was this originally a ben folds concert and rufus guested? or did they co-headline?

  • i saw them do this live years ago. LOVE this cover sooo much! thanks for posting!

  • Awe at 3:15..

  • @heesakkersj ----what?? groban covered the Master??? gotta look for that one. this rocks live btw, the electricity in the crowd I was in was awesome.

  • Awe at 3:11

  • I really hate the original version of this song, but hearing both Ben Folds & Rufus Wainwright singing it together turned it into solid gold. HOLY SHIT THIS IS GOOD!!!

  • @MySeoulWithin bro you know nothing about music if you hate the original but like this better? george michaels wrote this song when he was only 17, and his version is a masterpiece. He can also sing these two off the stage any day.

  • @mishmash465: Why does it always have to be "either or". George Michael's original is great. And he's a very good singer. But this version is great, too. Especially Folds' piano playing and Wainwright's singing is fabulous. So Michael would maybe sing Folds off the stage (although he is not a bad singer) but certainly not Wainwright.

  • @sylvia1971de Michael would sing Chuck Norris off the stage with this song.

  • @mishmash465 (1) I'm not your bro. (2) I really don't care for George Michael or any of his music, so trying to give me some history lesson of the guy isn't going to impress me. (3) If I had known that the president of the George Michael Fan Club was going to get so worked up over one man's opinion, I wouldn't have even bothered. So excuse me, princess.

I'll leave you alone to plan you're next club meeting.

  • @MySeoulWithin what a complete and utter dick you must be. Why would I want to impress a know nothing like you? I will leave you to organise you next 'Complete Wankers Society' meeting with your friends and family. Wad

  • @mishmash465 OK, I may be a dick. I'll give you that much, but at least I'm not a big crybaby who gets their feelings hurt over a YouTube video. You're reacting like I just insulted your entire family and country. Relax, mate. Also, it's best to try and think of your own jeers/insults rather than re-use mine. It makes you sound a little more intelligent. But please, continue to throw a fit over someone else's opinion because you believe your word is gospel.

    Sod off.

  • @MySeoulWithin @mishmash465 I agree with MySeoulWithin

George Michael is a better singer technically but he is not my cup of tea. so mishmash dont have a haemorrhage cos someones opinion is not the same as yours. makes you look dumb

  • On a scale of one to FUCK, this song is better than EVERYTHING ELSE. It makes me want to weep and jump and laugh hysterically and roll down a hill and make love and do all of the things that make me feel alive.

  • Shit - that is one of the best things I have EVER seen!

  • oh my...garbage.

  • Rufus you're being modest. I can kind of understand why as artists they do it, but I'm just not a big fan of these two guys collaborating. Great pianists both, but their voices just do not jive well. My vote goes to George on this one. I'd be fascinated to hear them play a piano duo though...are there any?

  • When I saw this I thought two things.

One: I am a new person.

Two: If I died right now, I'd die happy.

  • 15 people have no souls.

  • fuck.. gross.

  • Rufus gives such feeling to everything he does

  • is it a total waste of 5 celebrities you're allowed to sleep with if you name rufus and you are a woman? i guess i'd take the risk in the off chance he wants another baby hahaha

  • @hcb0218

HCB I dunno - but he is on my list! MAN he is hot! If you or I can compete with Lorca Cohen we'll be doing alright.

  • two of my favorite men singing together! what a dream come true lol

  • beautiful!!!!!!! xx

  • Have you Guy's Heard Yarina's Version of Careles Whisper?, Check it out,

  • 0:58 - little out of tune...lol!!

  • This is great in it's own way, but I would love to hear Wainwright sing the whole song alone. Wonder what he would make out of it and it certainly suits his wonderful voice.

  • Great! The ending is almost the best ;-) and surely the funniest :-)

  • Genius(:

  • i suspect rufus may be gay???????

  • @yegdod1 Yes, he's gay and is engaged.

  • @yegdod1 you think??

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE RUFUS'S HARMONY!!! beautiful xx

  • OH. MY. GOSH. RUFUS SUCKS.

He may not suck in most of his songs. But in this one, you guys need to accept the fact that his voice sounds terrible. JUST this one video. my gosh. how can you argue that it sounds good?

  • hes singing with the nose?hahahaha thats the most silly & ridiculus voice ive ever heard.hes a fucking joke that bloke

  • OMFG amazing

  • the piano has more voice than you two combined...even during the rest (1:56-2:00)...LOL

  • Rufus Wainwright sings like a chick who's tone deaf.

  • Eargasm. <3 I love them both so very much.

  • DOUBLE GAY!

  • @Gruuvin1 AGREED!!!

  • DAYUM BEN FOLDS, you hit those sparkling high notes.

  • OMG! I think I must die... Ben is such a great musician... and with Rufus it makes that song perfect for me! Thx so much for sharing:)

  • swiped this MP3 after a year of searching. Now of all times there is a video? OMG! I Love you both so much. Rufus. Just saw you a couple of weeks ago at the Greek. You are a love.

    xo

  • Two of my favourite musicians! I love it.

  • totally fuckedup voices

  • :). Very nice. I always assumed, a name like Rufus, someone a little older, less...attractive. A face to the music.

  • I've heard Rufus Wainwright's music for a while, but I never knew how goddamn handsome he was! Bow chicka wow wow

  • I'll dance with you, Rufus!

  • holy crap, rufus! lol love that man :D

  • Best version of this song, EVER.

  • "'I'm never gonna dance again' I'm like, yeah me neither!"

    LOLLOLOLOL :)

  • Rufus's voice seems sooooooo invasive and tacky. It's pretty annoying. Good job to Ben Folds though.

  • @SpankyWhispette Thats just like your opinion man.

  • @Manmeat60 Well then. Let me keep it to my friggin self instead of you commenting on it.

  • @SpankyWhispette That would be good lol

  • @SpankyWhispette WTF are you posting your opinion on a public forum then if you don't expect people to respond to it??? Keep it to your 'friggin' self then if you don't want people to comment...

  • @miaastro His singing sucks. Just get over it. It's like how the holocaust never happened. JUST. GET. OVER IT.

  • @SpankyWhispette

Why are you mentioning the holocaust in relation to someone's singing?? Is that the best you can do? My 3 year old has better debating skills than you.

  • @miaastro I really really doubt it.

  • @SpankyWhispette

Great comeback comment.... you've just proven my point about your debating skills...hahaha.

  • @miaastro GLAD i could do that for you. But i still think he sucks in this video. And i'm still gonna comment about it if you keep commenting back, you prinnis.

  • @SpankyWhispette

You comment all you want, it's a free world and it's nice to see braindead idiots attempt to defend their dislike of someone's singing by mentioning the Holocaust. You really are a simple soul, aren't you?

  • @miaastro Braindead? Right, cause I literally have no function in my brain right now. And by the holocaust mention, I meant people need to face the fact. Does that make sense to you? What I meant by mentioning the holocaust. Really wish I didn't have to explain this to you.

  • @SpankyWhispette

I'm glad you admit to not having any brain function. Only a braindead moron would compare not liking Rufus Wainwright's voice to the Holocaust and the fact you don't see how ridiculous is hilarious!! I eagerly await your reply, I hope this time you make some effort to make sense but I won't hold my breath.

  • @miaastro Yeah I can admit things, because I'm not a miaastro.(1) "Fact that i dont see how ridiculous is hilarious"(2) You should probably use correct grammar.(3)

1.I said i'm not a miaastro since you are and since you can't admit his voice sucks in this one video

2.That was a comment you said to me

3.You didn't use correct grammar because that phrase just didn't make sense

**I hope I put this into enough detail for it to make sense to you

  • @SpankyWhispette

hahaha. You're so silly! Yes, you're not me. That's very observant of you! It seems you don't know how to use a fullstop either so have some for free. . . . . I'm sure my three year old can tell you how to use them.

You still haven't explained why you feel the need to compare the Holocaust to Rufus Wainwright's voice. Should I stop holding my breath, you braindead moron??

  • Hmmm, that Rufus seems more like a sleepin pill to me......

  • This is my dream pairing. I can't believe they did this!!

  • i love it when ben smiles.....awwww.

  • This made my day. No lie.

  • The perfect duo

  • I saw "Ben Folds" and "Rufus Wainwright" in the title, and my heart did a flippity.

  • dla panny Gas specjalnie.

  • love it @ 3:12.. ben folds is grinning.. cuz they hit that sweet harmony. luuuvs it

  • I believe my heart's just melted. And it is not because of the sweet waft of cinnamon and cookies emanating from the kitchen.

  • @jaideuxamours And melted once more. Love you, Rufus!

  • the high-pitch at 3:11 is actually VERY impressively in tune!

  • What a Sissy mary , singing through his nose

  • @onetrashdancer haha. i very much have to agree with you. still like both rufus and this cover VERY much.

  • @johnsteinbeck I must say some songs he does aren't half bad HA HA

  • @freebeing123 i know what you mean!! His voice doesnt go with the song!but this is good cover!!!!

  • I like the two-part harmony and the nice energy in this performance. Am I imagining things, are they straining and off-pitch in several places? On the other hand, maybe that's a common problem in live performance that's almost inevitable.

  • i love rufus hehe

  • Lol Ben @ the end :)

  • Yeaaah! ME NEITHER! hahaha

  • Wow...I absolutely love both of these men...HOW did it take me THIS LONG to find this song?!?!

  • @picchionero I think you mean the opposite...

  • In my opinion, if this cover were done by just Ben or just Rufus, it would be nowhere near as good. They're hilarious and wonderful together. No need to choose sides.

  • their voices sound really good together

  • rufus needs to open up his dam mouth! x

  • this is just so much better than the original and the suck ass seether version

  • Rufus has the most beautiful eyes.

  • @Harriet123P Haha. Their voices are what makes the song though.

  • Ooo I felt a connection there ^_~

To bad Ben isn't gay. But then again too bad Rufus is! If he wasn't, ought I'd grab him by the balls and drag him to my house and never let him go. Maybe I should do that anyways...

  • What you want to drag ben or rufus? either way i agree XD

  • so much better than the origianl... obviously IMO

  • Rufus´s voice is a thing of beauty

  • what a great cover. such passion!

  • it sounds amazing.

    I love rufus voice :)

  • This is to Sepharite, this was a free concert in Central Park in NYC a few years ago and it was on channel 7 ABC. I'm so happy to find it here since I do have it on video tape but now I can delete that !!!!

  • nice!!

  • I LOVE the way Rufus sings "yoooouuu" at the end of the chorus. These two are adorable together!

  • Where is this from? I see Fox on the bottom right, so is this some concert dedicated to someone? I know for sure this isn't a Ben Folds only concert.

  • @Sepharite Ben, Rufus and the band Guster did a triple-headlining tour in summer 2004. I was lucky enough to see them in Buffalo -- they did this there, plus Guster played "Fair" and "Give Judy My Notice" with Ben, and I think there were a couple other collaborations that I don't remember! It was an amazing show -- I'd never heard Ben or Rufus before but now I'm a fan of all of them. :)

  • Hahaha! Ben Folds is hilarious at the end; "Yeah, me neither!" haha. Rufus, of course, is amazing.

  • Rufus has the best voice in the world.!

  • is Ben Folds lead singer gay? just thought it'd be ironic :)

  • that would be a coincidence, not irony

  • Ben Folds isn't gay, Rufus is. They would make a great couple though.

  • Just as music should be. Exciting! And I am a very old person!

  • rufus wainwright is so dreamy!!!!!

  • @crosskitelines, amen

  • Love them both. Completely adorable, great duo. :D

  • This is a total guilty pleasure!!!! Ben and Rufus together?!!! Doing George Michael?!! This has totally made my day!! [2]

  • rufus is GAY sex!

  • I know, orgasmic ain't it!

  • Rufus is ALL types of sex in rolled into one. + great hair.

  • This is a total guilty pleasure!!!! Ben and Rufus together?!!! Doing George Michael?!! This has totally made my day!!

  • Rufus is PURE sex. And Ben Folds is adorable at the end :)

  • by far one of the best duos ever.

they are both talented singers/pianist and i think that i am completely in love!!! blah!!

this is just so fudging amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I adore this!

Rufus Wainwright's voice is so gorggeous

  • How great is this!?

    For serious.

    Fun stuff!

  • It might be one of the greatest things that ever happened.

  • You're a 'never was' too, jackass. George Michaels isn't nearly as talented as Ben Folds or Rufus Wainwright and the only reason he has remained semi-relevant is by attempting to solicit anonymous gay sex from a police officer in a public bathroom.

  • I think Ben ripped this song off a little bit on The Last Waltz... you can hear it in the pre-verse section....
