It would have been easy to win that point just by tapping the ball over the net, but it's more about entertainment and not so much about winning when there's an audience that is enthralled by the action. Once a snooker player pots all the reds on his way to a maximum break, he could just lay his cue on the table and his opponent would concede. Why doesn't he? because getting a 147 break is a million times more entertaining than just winning the frame.

because there is way too much spin on the ball to hit it in any direction other than down and to the left. if he tried to do a drop shot or hit it to the right, the ball would immediately fly off his racquet out of control.
