Have a question please. I record orchestra concerts for my son. Which way do the mics face. If you are recording a concert do you have the LED facing you or toward the stage? If it is toward the stage how can you adjust the levels if you can't see the VU meter?
i think you should review the little brother to the d50, the m10. its got omni mics as opposed to cards but they are built in and not adjustable. I would rather have that than cards.
I transcribe meetings (I type what people say) and I use the DPC feature to slow down conversations so I can easily and effortlessly type up every single word without having to stop and rewind because a subject talks to fast. It's really really awesome.
£550 on average, no XLR 48Vp and is made by Sony 3 great reasons to save a bit more and buy a Fostex FR2le,for a budget recorder,or a Tascam and if you have a bit more the FR2,but not a bloody Sony, more so when it goes wrong Sonys customers service are a waste of time.
I've owned a Sony PCM-D50 for a year and a half now , all I can say is all my recordings sound very professional ! I've recorded rock bands and soloists and each time it sounds like a professional recording !
I own one, and it will pick up backgound noise because the mics are so sensitive. I use mine mainly to record my band, with the on board mics, it does a great job. I have no complaints.
Hi there, I want to record heavy metal concerts with Sony PCM-D50. Can you recommend it because I filmed with a camcorder Sony HDR SR10 and the sound was really bad. Thanks already.
Owen asked what the pitch control option was useful for. As Sony conceived it, at least, the idea was to allow one to slow down playback for musicians who want to learn a fast riff from a live recording while keeping the pitch true to the original.
A more useful demo might be to show the D50 in action using proper mics, or even with the onboard mics aimed at the source in a more reasonable way. I have one, and it can do a very good job when properly set up, and an adequate one when demo-ed in ways like this, that don't quite make sense, except to demonstrate fault-tolerance, I suppose.
Personally, I'd like to see some discussion and demos of real applications, and the setups and mic arrangements that others find useful.
nope thats background environmental noise, air con, cars on roads outside, tv hum that kind of stuff. Do any filed recording and you will always have that kind of noise in the background.

Get the D1 while it still lasts in retailer's stock. The D1 has better mic preamps than the Chinese made D-50.

He was recording in a very lively room and was not addressing the microphones properly. (He was pointing it at the ceiling)
As to how he was using it at his bands rehearsal? No clue as he was just playing it back in this video.

I was amazed how bad it sounds too, but you should look (and hear) the video which is on their website. The one here is just converted quite badly.
