ALL credit-expansionary policies are counterproductive. Say the BoE reduces rates to 1%. Bob who borrows from a commercial bank will be able to increase his monthly loan and pay the same amount of interest as before the rate cut. Thus, he has a free lunch and acts ambitiously, buying more production goods. But the FRBs giving out that money do so as printed FIAT credit so prices later rise offsetting increased purchasing power but Bob ACTED as if his PPower HAD increased: arise, malinvestment!

Ben Bernanke was on CNBC back in 2007 having an interview with Maria Bartoromo and when she questioned the possibility of a housing bubble, he mentioned that he couldn't 'recall' a time when the price of homes hasn't had a history of being devalued back in 2007 during the peak of the housing bubble. Since then, the average price of homes have been severely devalued since that interview had aired, which I believe can still be found on this site.
Geithner: "Forgot" to pay his taxes for three years while working for the IMF and worked with Greenspan while working at the New York Federal Reserve.
I can't find anything good to say about Ben that would cause Time to consider him as person of the year. The fed should have created much more money during the depression. They imported large amounts of gold and still refused to create new money. Of course, none of it would have been necessary without the fed blowing up the 20s credit/stock bubble.

@Overcastkid747 Nah, they're 'just doing their job'... It is crazy, two different worlds. The reality that Peter Schiff and others talk of on different websites. And then big-money mainstream media publications like Time that want to portray black as white, and white as black.
Elitists today are using the same model Hitler used in the 30s to move the U.S. from a Republic to a Dictatorial Regime. The Weimar Republic in the 20s had massive inflation, unemployment and vast civil unrest. The great depression hit in 30 and parties loyal to democratic government couldn't agree on productive counter measures resulting in massive government spending and finally governing through presidential emergency decree, executive order, which paved the way for authoritarian government.
Don't you worry: Obama will the next Man of the Year, just in time for WWIII. America today isn't all that much different from Nazi Germany in the Thirties.
CNN's '10 Culprits of the Collapse' list in 2008 was ridiculous.
We now know what a bogus list it was!
Only Phil Gramm, Franklin Raines, Allen Greenspan, and Chris Cox were top 10 worthy. Where's Chris Dodd, Paulson, Bernanke, Barney Frank, Robert Rubin, and #1 Lloyd Blankfein and the his entire Bankster slugs at Goldman Sachs?
With Obamas Nobel prize I just thought WTF, but this sickened me, Probably because of what will happen in the future to all the innocent ppl that will get hurt in a hyper inflationary depression
Wow, people saying Peter is just a puppet? Peter has consistently said the EXACT SAME THING for years. He has never backed down from a fight and he has always made his views perfectly clear. What the heck are you looking for in a politician if you think Peter is a puppet??
Simple. Because to call it theft/fraud/rape would make you seem like a hothead and nobody wants a hothead in office. Peter has on too many occasions to count has called the actions of Gov't criminal and that's plenty for me. I dont need name calling by politicians to get my vote.
Benk Bernanke is an appropriate choice for the title Person of the Year, but not for anything positive he has done. To the contrary he will be known as the steward who directed the U.S. economy into the greatest depression.
Peter Schiff, as usual, is keenly accurate in speaking the truth.
Hey Schiff, umm, ya I saw a vid and read an artical on infowars, and it said you support bombing Iran. Umm ya, WTF?
I mean your sound as a bell on economic issues, but I know nothing of your views on socal issues, such as drugs, and other things, nor do I know anything about your Foreign Policy views. If your not saying couse your playing politics, I understand couse you want to get elected, but pleacse clarify.
I would not say that. Thats just stupid, I'm asking if he's playing politics, I dont think he's a puppet of the New World Order. And yes, I do belive the NWO exsist.
So ether your an idiot, or a spamer, trying to make everyone think consperies are all about the jews. Ether way, Shut up.
Keep on message Peter.Once again sorry to say they'll be playing this clip when it hits the fan and the bullshit recovery farce is bullshit to just about everybody
Ha ha they'll be adding it to a future depression-era Peter Schiff clip show and we'll be all like, "See, that guy was right!" on the group wi-fi connection at the hobo jungle.
These types of awards are never chosen in any rational or objective sense, they are always motivated by the petty politics leanings, money, or race, or any other number of other factors which should play no role in what someone has done in their life to receive such recognition.
Besides everyone knows Tiger Woods should have been person of the year! Goddammit...
this work by peter made me laugh, it is a comedy, hey wait a minute i'm crying and this is a tragedy, oh that's right i'm irish well sacks of gold's, man of the year, keeps the money flowin,to his own at the expense of every righteous laboring man on earth, the financial paper parasites are piling up gold for the last days and the hyjacked power lusting politicians are in up to their eyeballs. but this is written in james 5:1-8, note the word fraud, and see that it is being prospered.
he supports withdrawing troops from our military bases around the world and has stated that he may have supported going into iraq if they truly had wmds. he still wants to end both wars now. he may not be ron paul when it comes to foreign policy, but he is no neocon
Remember, Time is one of the most visible propaganda devices out there. Time is for fools and the people that believe what they read in Time and the New York Times, etc., don't know much and that is why they read it. Peter is right on. It's too bad that this is the state of affairs.
Well, Hitler did do a lot of good. I don't know about Stalin, but Hitler improved the economy a lot and improved the spirit of the people and other things.
Peter, thanks for fighting the good fight! The senate and USA need you!
idea.
Schiff's 10 point agenda for returning USA to prosperity, or maybe just 3. Meg Whitman in CA has a good 3 point message and is doing great in polls. Will probably be next governor, beating Moonbeam.
Regarding the senate run. It's coming down awfully close to the election. You need to expand the platform. A position on health care was a start. Now you need to expand it to other big issues. Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel, terrorism, global warming, violations of humans rights, Guantanamo, USA becoming a police state, etc. You might be able to stick to economic issues because it's a local race but I doubt an one issue candidate can really get votes.
Media = commie ?? Where the hell did the media go to school?? Bin Laden U? Why would the US media slam the private sector repeatedly for years in hopes of toppling any profit making entity we have?
3 cheers for Chairman Bernanke!! Person of the Year 2009 and soon to be Person of the Years 2010 and 2011. His policies are exactly what is needed to flush worthless Americans and their dollars down the toilet into netherspace, never to plague the rest of the world again.
I will personally award Chairman Bernanke 1 trillion US dollars as a bonus after the worst hyperinflationary depression in history, created by his policies, comes into effect.
@APRtunedAudi Um, take off the Alex Jones glasses and listened to what he said. If they where a threat! Ron Paul would be against them if they where a threat.
you dont seem to have figured out that time person of the year is not a real decision but an effort by the corporate establishment to defend the status quo. they know bernake is wrong, they are benefitting from his actions and want to defend him and the system. you seem to have missed that point and assume this was a real decision not an effort at propaganda
We'll...according to TIME "you" were person of the year in 2006. Everyone was person of the year in 2006. TIME person of the year is far from honorary. I doubt its meant to be taken seriously.
I hope People are smart enough to get you Peter. I like it when you use analogies because it helps me understand your points. You should do that because when you do it it makes sense and denies people to spin what you are saying as " Politics".
Peter can be so right on, but sometimes so deluded:
Bernanke should "... stand up to Congress... Have the courage to maintain higher interest rates in the face of a recession and force fiscal responsibility on those spendthrifts in Washington by refusing to monetize their debt"
LOL!!
And if he did that, he would have been evicted. The fed is there to serve the banks and the political interests of government.
It's absolutely crazy..."Man of the Year" ?? I just can't help thinking that there is something they know that we don't. The politicians, our President, the fed...what are they discussing behind closed doors that they are not saying in public in defense of their policies? Because every time I hear the debate against those like Peter and Ron they sound simple and way off base. It must be worse than we think?
If the validity of a science and its models are based on the predictive capabilities of their practitioners than I would say Bernanke's economic KungFu is weak and Schiff's is strong :)
TIME magazine has convinced me that they have NO CREDIBILITY! Their magazine is complete GARBAGE! Worth no more than to line the base of my birds cage to protect it from the POOP!!!!
he does deserve this honor, but i feel he deserves it for different reasons than what Time Magazine feels he deserves it for.. "saving the economy." what a joke!
Maybe a Greater Depression with hyperinflation is exactly what Bernanke, Obama, et al want to happen. Because the way they see it, in order to have statism take over as the permanent standard in Washington first they have tear down the existing structure of the government.
Why is it everybody here thinks that Bernanke is incompetent. He is very competent. What if the so called conspiracies are not conspiracies at all and the guy is doing everything to to crash the country in order to transition to the NWO? Isn't this staring everybody in the eyes. Are Americans so dumb not to understand what is going on?
and that's why art history majors should not be writing articles about economics, science, math, engineering, etc... you know anything of value or substance.
END THE FED

Wow, people saying Peter is just a puppet? Peter has consistently said the EXACT SAME THING for years. He has never backed down from a fight and he has always made his views perfectly clear. What the heck are you looking for in a politician if you think Peter is a puppet??

Simple. Because to call it theft/fraud/rape would make you seem like a hothead and nobody wants a hothead in office. Peter has on too many occasions to count has called the actions of Gov't criminal and that's plenty for me. I dont need name calling by politicians to get my vote.
g00se99 2 years ago
This is why it is necessary for peter to keep using Analogies instead of name calling. because some people do not "get" it.

Also don't remove posts by Castilom1. That's censorship. Contrary views is exactly what everyone should be arguing to allow.

Bern Bernanke is Goldman Sachs' Man of the Year. Hilarious and accurat. I love it. Peter Schiff is not only keenly correct, he is so entertaining.
joesub 2 years ago 9
He does know how to be sarcastic, yes. Have you seen his Hitler Olympic Games and Vampire blog entry? One of his funniest.
WOLF333999 2 years ago
Benk Bernanke is an appropriate choice for the title Person of the Year, but not for anything positive he has done. To the contrary he will be known as the steward who directed the U.S. economy into the greatest depression.
Peter Schiff, as usual, is keenly accurate in speaking the truth.

Remember, Time is one of the most visible propaganda devices out there. Time is for fools and the people that believe what they read in Time and the New York Times, etc., don't know much and that is why they read it. Peter is right on. It's too bad that this is the state of affairs.

Peter, thanks for fighting the good fight! The senate and USA need you!
idea.
Schiff's 10 point agenda for returning USA to prosperity, or maybe just 3. Meg Whitman in CA has a good 3 point message and is doing great in polls. Will probably be next governor, beating Moonbeam.
forwardmover 2 years ago
Person of the Year is for the most newsworthy.

3 cheers for Chairman Bernanke!! Person of the Year 2009 and soon to be Person of the Years 2010 and 2011. His policies are exactly what is needed to flush worthless Americans and their dollars down the toilet into netherspace, never to plague the rest of the world again.
I will personally award Chairman Bernanke 1 trillion US dollars as a bonus after the worst hyperinflationary depression in history, created by his policies, comes into effect.

you dont seem to have figured out that time person of the year is not a real decision but an effort by the corporate establishment to defend the status quo. they know bernake is wrong, they are benefitting from his actions and want to defend him and the system. you seem to have missed that point and assume this was a real decision not an effort at propaganda

Maybe a Greater Depression with hyperinflation is exactly what Bernanke, Obama, et al want to happen. Because the way they see it, in order to have statism take over as the permanent standard in Washington first they have tear down the existing structure of the government.
