We derive meaning out of life once we realize that it is isn't eternal, which means we only have a limited amount of time here, so enjoy every second of it.
@TheGuilev Well, yes, the actual dialogue isn't funny. The fake subtitles provide absurd contrast to the action onscreen and the actual film dialogue. I suppose it might be hard to concentrate on the subtitles if you speak the language.
Finally the internet has created a thing that combines my two favourite things! Now if only someone could combine post-structuralism with Star Trek...

What is a youtube commenter? An unhappy person who conceals profound anguish in his heart but whose lips are so formed that as sighs and cries pass over them they sound like beautiful music.
hahah the quotes are great, the "finite point" one by R2 is what made me decide to comment. i really enjoy your videos, not only are they creative and unique but they are very well done. my favorites are Longest Crash ever, Superman Goes the Wrong Way, Luke Spazzes With His Lightsaber...off the top of my head. thanks for the laughs :)
@bainst Great insult, because someone who would actually take the time to watch a video that satirizes a popular film with the use of existentialist quotes is clearly the type of person that doesn't read. For you, I would recommend something along the lines of "Irony for Dummies", but if you need to read a book like that to understand why this video is funny, there is most likely no hope for you in this world. Have fun over-thinking everything for the rest of your life...
@mrennie25 Your difficultly stems from man's inability to accept the universe's indifference to him. Despair will teach you how to properly contexualize your own meaninglessness in the face of the cold, unyielding subtitles, which speak to us of the terrifying banality of our own mortality. Truly, we are all marooned on a Tatooine of our own intellects.
I cannot like nor dislike this. It would be better if the spoken French actually matched the translation. Good concept, but incomplete...or maybe there's additional humor there...must investigate further.
Lord of the Rings Existensialism, please! Maybe not your Forté, but the Gandalf & Pippin's death talk could be a fantastic scene to parody. Among many others.
The Fellowshiop meeting Galadriel is another. The wizard-off between Gandalf the Grey & Saruman the White could be like Kant vs. Descartes.
Yep. The French and the people who worship their "culture" are indeed, highly pretentious. That's why France never has and never will produce a film like STAR WARS.
@RAIDERS58th Not all French movies are as "pretentious" as you make them out to be. For example, there is a strong tradition of bloody, low brow, easily digested French horror movies.

@demaoza I've actually thought about doing the whole original SW trilogy with other philosophers (although the only other language on the DVDs is Spanish, so it would be best to use quotes from a Spanish speaking philosopher.) If you could find a German dub, Nietzsche would work well (either Empire or even Raiders), but any more of these might be too similar to this. Is a sequel a good idea or not? I haven't been able to decide.
@OneMinuteGalactica Well, Ortega Y Gasset was Spanish, but I guess he's less known, so it might not be the best idea :)
I think it's less about who the specific philosopher you choose is. More about finding the right quotes in the right atmosphere. You really mastered that in this video. Especially in the desert scene. I actually laugh out loud each time I see it. I say - go for a sequel, but only if it's as awesome as this one (at least!) :)
@OneMinuteGalactica Why not do a Chinese person's view of Americans version? I can do anything as long as I believe! I think therefore I am! You can have the stars, all you have to do is reach!
@OneMinuteGalactica There are not great spanish philosophers (perhaps Ortega y Gasset), but believe me. You could find a lot of sapience in Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes. I have read it. By the way, I am spanish and I won't enjoy it if you use the spanish DVD. You could always use the english or french DVD in a different version of the video for spanish speakers like me. Better french, nobody talks it :P
