  • I used to think life was meaningful, but then I took a blaster in the knee.

  • This is probably a better explanation of Existentialism than a Sartre essay.

  • Genius.

  • This was awesome.

  • Emostentialism

  • N'importe quoi --'

  • Comment removed

  • This is still one of the funniest things on the internet.

  • We derive meaning out of life once we realize that it is isn't eternal, which means we only have a limited amount of time here, so enjoy every second of it.

  • I like the "Nothingness, I embrace you!" line a lot. Ver' ver' funny. Ta!

  • Amaze. End line = perfection

  • so awesome

  • Luke's face at 1:12 made me laugh my ass off

  • Nothingness I embrace you!!!

  • "Luke, I am still dead"

  • 1:13 Luke does not understand French existentialism.

  • 55 people understand French.

  • I understand what they say and it's not laugh. The traduction is really bad too.

  • It gets even better when you actually understand what they're saying.

  • ♥ .

  • I can't find any meaning in this...

  • Nothingness, I embrace you!

  • Best shot at 1:14! LOL!

  • DESPAIR!

  • Hell is other Existentialists.

  • This is brilliant. Thanks!

  • ANGUISH!!

  • Hell is other people...who did not like this.

  • I'd sell my kidney to watch this :D

  • This is genius.

  • OMG, FInally! Star Wars done right!

  • It gets kind of odd when you actually know what they're saying...

  • 53 people refuse to acknowledge that God is Dead.

  • clapclapclap

  • Oh yeah I like the heroe of that movie, Jean-Paul Sartrwalker!

  • Most French movies are exactly like this ;-)

  • The 'No Exit' stinger at the end seals the deal for me.

  • im french, and the subtitles are wrong. They don"t say what you read in the subtitles.

  • @TheGuilev of course they don't...

  • @TheGuilev NO! How can that be? Might it be *gasp* humour? No, no, I can't believe it's humour... DO NOT WANT!

  • @TheGuilev Well, yes, the actual dialogue isn't funny. The fake subtitles provide absurd contrast to the action onscreen and the actual film dialogue. I suppose it might be hard to concentrate on the subtitles if you speak the language.

  • @TheGuilev but it was still funny! Je me souviens!

  • i wish i couldn't understand French right now, it spoils everything.

  • Are you sure this shouldn't be swedish? Ingmar bergman and what not.

  • Finally the internet has created a thing that combines my two favourite things! Now if only someone could combine post-structuralism with Star Trek...

  • This must be the official French version of the films.

  • What exactly caused the French to be such miserable buggers?

  • @bookeater Agincort

  • @bookeater it was the prohibition of Absinthe....(true it was!).

  • Utopia is ignorance. Knowledge is gained from suffering. Anguish comes from denial of truth. Embracing pain makes it your slave.

  • Fuck, I speak french, so it's not funny :(

  • I would find this awesome, if there was a point to my existence.

  • Emo Obi-Wan.

  • Best.

    Video.

    Ever.

Or did I say that already?

If Plato (the most evil person in history) had been right, this would be the Idea of Beauty: 1:21

  • I Brought My Self Here,I Was Searching For Luke Skywalker Of 2 Live Crew,N Found Something Much More Interesting,Your Channel Made Me LOL More Then A Few Times.

  • "même dans d'autres galaxies, 'l'enfer c'est les autres'."

  • le lol!

  • WTF TRANSLATION ?!!!

  • Wtf R2?!

  • i am so confused right now...

  • what?

  • I wasted thee minutes watching this, only to discover that all life is wasted. Despair!

  • @CorbinKale

this is actually not existentialism but nihilism.

    but i dig the joke.

  • I just love how Luke looks so clueless whenever someone says something existential to him in this video.

  • C'est magnifique!

    Hope I said that right...

  • Luke's expression at 1:14 is so fitting. It's just like, "what the hell is he saying?"

    Vader's last line is epic.

Superbe!

  • @ultramarinegoat I don't know French, but I understand everything you said due to the handy-dandy cognates and freshman English jargon terms. Bravo!

  • @AdventurousPutty why thank you, it was pure and utter drivel but I thought it fitted the spirit of this new marvel from OneMinuteGalactica

  • 1:08 - 1:18

pretty much one of the best comedy segments in youtube

  • If you know french, or if you can quote New Hope by heart.

    FTFY. :)

  • For everyone who put 'Jedi' as their religion on the census form!

  • "Luke I am still dead.".....you know..FYI..just sayin'

  • I can tell that the words they're speaking don't match up with the subtitles, but still this is hilarious.

"Every existing thing is born without reason, prolongs itself out of weakness, and dies by chance."

    *blank stare*

    LOL!

  • What is a youtube commenter? An unhappy person who conceals profound anguish in his heart but whose lips are so formed that as sighs and cries pass over them they sound like beautiful music.

  • hahah the quotes are great, the "finite point" one by R2 is what made me decide to comment. i really enjoy your videos, not only are they creative and unique but they are very well done. my favorites are Longest Crash ever, Superman Goes the Wrong Way, Luke Spazzes With His Lightsaber...off the top of my head. thanks for the laughs :)

  • @bainst Great insult, because someone who would actually take the time to watch a video that satirizes a popular film with the use of existentialist quotes is clearly the type of person that doesn't read. For you, I would recommend something along the lines of "Irony for Dummies", but if you need to read a book like that to understand why this video is funny, there is most likely no hope for you in this world. Have fun over-thinking everything for the rest of your life...

  • "The Partially Examined Life" website brought me here.

And they got a YouTube channel worth checking..... I tell you what!

  • Who the genuine fuck would dislike this?

  • @pioneerscalps Teistic existensialists.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh, it kills me. I embrace the killing... the nothingness... the void.

  • Hum. Cela est moins drôle lorsque l'on comprend le français !

  • This is the coolest thing I've seen in a long while - nice one!

  • i have a hard time embracing this because i know the literal lines from the original in english. still great though

  • @mrennie25 Oh, come on, embrace it. Embrace it!

  • @OneMinuteGalactica it hurts! i die!

  • @OneMinuteGalactica

    Sigh...

    What's the point?

  • @OneMinuteGalactica I have returned to embrace it. i realized that i quote this a lot

  • @mrennie25 Hey, I speak french, so I can hear what they're saying isn't what the subtitles are, but it's still awesome...definitely embrace! ;)

  • "AAAARRRRGGHHH" - (translation) Nothingness I embrace you!

Absolute class, love Satre and Starwars so this is beautiful.

  • As a fan of Sartre I have laughed to tears each time I watch this video. Amazing Job. Nothingness I embrace you!

  • Comment removed

  • May the Force Be With You... If You Exist.

  • @GhostsAndAliens Brilliant. xD

  • I cannot like nor dislike this. It would be better if the spoken French actually matched the translation. Good concept, but incomplete...or maybe there's additional humor there...must investigate further.

  • @bainst While you're investigating, try locating your sense of humor...

  • @dcorbino10 Try reading a book.

  • Lord of the Rings Existensialism, please! Maybe not your Forté, but the Gandalf & Pippin's death talk could be a fantastic scene to parody. Among many others.

The Fellowshiop meeting Galadriel is another. The wizard-off between Gandalf the Grey & Saruman the White could be like Kant vs. Descartes.

  • As if existentialism wasn't absurd enough already!

  • Star wars should be made to be watched at least once a week all year round

  • General Kenobi, I exist.

It is soft, so soft, so slow.

  • C’est superbe, ça!

    L’éxistence precède et commande l’essence!

    Vive la merde!

  • We must act out of passion before we can feel it!

    Thank you @OneMinuteGalactica!

  • OMG I think I just peed myself laughing!

  • It is not a literal translation from French unfortunately.... but still.....

  • @archeopoulet Well, duh. Or as they say in French, "deux." Vive le poulet!!

  • Haaaa Haaaa Luke I'm still dead.

  • DUDE, this was FUCKING GENIUS!!! "Nothingness, I embrace you." :)

  • @CTM1978 Captain, we do not know what we want, and yet we are responsible for what we are. That is the fact!

  • I never knew that forgetting about everything I learned in French lessons would come so handy in the future.

  • GENIUS

  • "i die" at 33 seconds.

    LOL

  • Great Détournement!

  • Brilliant.

  • I liked this video. Not that it matters...

  • A MILLION BILLION LIKES

  • Ahahahahaha!! Love this thank you!!

  • Yep. The French and the people who worship their "culture" are indeed, highly pretentious. That's why France never has and never will produce a film like STAR WARS.

  • @RAIDERS58th Not all French movies are as "pretentious" as you make them out to be. For example, there is a strong tradition of bloody, low brow, easily digested French horror movies.

  • @Jasontheperson I doubt that very much.

  • What is not awesome about this?

  • I love after the 'attention all pilots' quote Luke mouths the words "what?".

  • So the same science that trys to find reason to everything, gives life the exception because...

  • Think it's probably a better idea to believe in God then don't and find out he really does exist. Existentialism what a rad concept all the cool kids are doing it yo!

  • I've heard of Sartre, but this Sarte guy is a lot more interesting.

  • @vettekaas Wow, you caught a typo, how cool are you?

  • star wars(the nouvelle vague version).

  • Thumbs up if Roger Ebert brought you here!

  • @75791 Thank you for the link, Mr. Ebert!

  • "attention all pilots..."

  • As French, I had to almost mute the video to enjoy it, but it was still very good ;p

Maybe try with Japanese version and Sun Tzu ? :)

  • That is one of the funniest things I have ever watched.

  • I only wish at the end that Han Solo said: "You're all clear kid, now let's blow this thing so we can repeat this meaningless Sisyphean task again."

  • I wish you hadn't misspelled Sartre's name in the opening credit.

  • If you can find a German version, I would love to see a Werner Herzog adaptation ;)

  • If you can find a German version, I would love to see a Werner Herzog adaptation ;)

  • 26 people are deeply concerned over the lack of Carrie Fisher or the discussion of women's place in the destruction of manhood.

  • I am so glad Jean-Luc Godard didn't make Star Wars.

  • @MeLikeGuns

    Speak for yourself.

This is terrific - and it only lasted 4 hours.

"The Death Star will clear the planet in 1 minute".

LEIA: "Fear not. Time is but an illusion of the thinking soul. The soul is infinite. Time is infinite. Finite is the infiniteness of fear. That is why we succeed in living the finite within infinte possibilities .." [BANG!]

  • What about Han Solo's philosophy? "philosophy is pointless. only the task at hand is worthy of concern."

  • Freud was right. Star Wars is all about procreation.

  • Gosh, this is like a Rickroll, but with Camus poised perfectly pointlessly in the driver's seat. How very esoteric and plesant.

  • This video is pointless and without meaning. Why bother watching it?

  • This would have been a perfect addition: "The Force will use you, Luke!"

  • I laughed so hard at the line: Luke, I am still dead.

  • Nothingness, I embrace you!

  • Damn brilliant. Youtube at it's absurd best.

  • "Luke, I am still dead."

  • Okay, you win. This is hilarious.

    .

  • This is absolutely genius. Seriously! I watch it at least 5 times a day since I've found this gem. Next project should probably be Heidegger doing Indiana Jones.

  • @demaoza I've actually thought about doing the whole original SW trilogy with other philosophers (although the only other language on the DVDs is Spanish, so it would be best to use quotes from a Spanish speaking philosopher.) If you could find a German dub, Nietzsche would work well (either Empire or even Raiders), but any more of these might be too similar to this. Is a sequel a good idea or not? I haven't been able to decide.

  • @OneMinuteGalactica Well, Ortega Y Gasset was Spanish, but I guess he's less known, so it might not be the best idea :)

I think it's less about who the specific philosopher you choose is. More about finding the right quotes in the right atmosphere. You really mastered that in this video. Especially in the desert scene. I actually laugh out loud each time I see it. I say - go for a sequel, but only if it's as awesome as this one (at least!) :)

  • @OneMinuteGalactica Why not do a Chinese person's view of Americans version? I can do anything as long as I believe! I think therefore I am! You can have the stars, all you have to do is reach!

  • @OneMinuteGalactica I'd love to see German-language Empire with Nietzche.

  • @OneMinuteGalactica A very good idea. Have you considered Marx?

  • @OneMinuteGalactica There are not great spanish philosophers (perhaps Ortega y Gasset), but believe me. You could find a lot of sapience in Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes. I have read it. By the way, I am spanish and I won't enjoy it if you use the spanish DVD. You could always use the english or french DVD in a different version of the video for spanish speakers like me. Better french, nobody talks it :P

  • @OneMinuteGalactica I reckon you should do a Marxist 'Empire' in Russian, followed by a Zen Budhist 'Jedi' in Chinese/Japanese.

  • @OneMinuteGalactica Don Quixote?

  • Thomas Aquinas would be easy to caricature -- or Augustine.

  • @OneMinuteGalactica Great idea.
