sad to see a good rx8 perish ;-; im amazed the camera survived, what a beast, wish it was the other way around and the camera got totaled and the car untouched. sorry for your loss, at least ur still ok :D u can drive another rx8 another day
I just got my first car, and thank you for showing us how easy it is to lose it...I mean that drop in the road doesn't seem like much but it clearly doesn't take much to throw your car on a deadly tangent :( Are you driving again? What did you replace it with? Did your insurance company treat you fairly even though you were driving too fast?
Damn, that hurts to see a nice set of wheels going off the road like that. I feel bad for you and I hope you didnt suffer from any injuries. Lesson learned, don't mess up any other RX-8, all right? ;)
It takes a real person to admit to their own mistakes and post a video of one so others can learn......thanks for posting this and glad to hear that you're alright.....was the car totally totaled??
Looking at this again I wonder Did you touch the brakes at all? If the car took off over the crest and the front landed first that would kick the rear out. or you possibly just took it at an angle and so and inside wheel landed first. Just some ideas.
I think this is a completely understandable accident. Everyone likes to drive fast, you can't stop people enjoying life. And this was just bad luck, you didn't know the road and, well what can you say. There was almost nothing you could do, everyone would have reacted in that way, and people can't tell you off for this. That's just the hard way to learn a road!
Thanks for posting that. Its unfortunate you get so many dumb comments - you didn't do it right. I wrecked a car the exact same way when i was 17, it was 84 celica supra, only 2 years old, and a fast car-even by todays standards. I went down a big dip that i couldn't see til the last sec, and cause i let up it felt like the back of the car was like a foot off the ground, and it just spun around on me. I thank you for showing me what i looked like. Felt like slow motion.
maybe im wrong but it seems to me that you crashed simply because you were already turning left before the crest ? I know that road and its true that its real fun driving fast on pretty much all the roads near mont tremblant but i usually slow down when i arrive near the top of a crest for 2 reasons: 1) i can't see whats on the other side (cars, curve, cyclists) 2) i don't want to lose control like you did :P
@GiveMeThatMango Excellent comment, I didn't know that road well enough to ride that fast and it's part of my mistake. I never drive that way, when we say people are getting more stupid in group. That is a great example. Alone I am very careful, in group that day, I was thinking straight.
Not judging too harshly, but it looked like there wasn't much of an effective correction attempt, the wheels seems to be aimed off to the left through most of that. I understand not wanting to over-correct, but I'd say there was more so a lack in driver judgement than anything.
@SYSPLUCK Please look again, it's clear that the wheels are aimed at the right as soon as the car started to slide. I gave up when I saw that I had no control at all at the car since the car was mid air. I agree the main issue was a bad jugement.
@belgiumpuchfan The suspension was set for an event planned the week after on a flat track. We were not supposed to drive that fast on that road. It's not entirely because of the suspension, but that didn't help. Like already said, this video doesn't give justive to the size of that "bump", it's really a hill.
Cuz we have the RX8 Cosmo, and altough we've installed the Tein Monoflex with EDFC control panel and worked with its settings too, I can definitely understand what happened. This car can bite you right when you don't expect it to & usually its when you're out of the torque band. It's a fantastic car and generally handles exceptionally, even more with the Tein suspension, but just when you feel you know its reactions, it'll catch you off guard. Over the limit its a bitty tricky & demands care.
@thetalkingelement Nice try, but that's exactly what happened. Changing speed in a curve will lead to a loss of control. You can't accelerate/decelerate when turning and that's exactly what this lesson is about.
Your comment was sarcastic, trying to prove someone else stupidity. You just prooved that you don't know what you are talking about. If you want to try lifting the pedal through a corner, be my guest... just make sure you have good insurance before (life and car).
@PGROTHE It's all about the handling characteristics of the car. The RX-8 is RWD with very neutral handling. A FWD car would not have the same problem.
@mostkewl1 did you not see the cam?...the front left suspension had lifted....coupled with rear wheels losing all contact with the floor..then sudden complete loss of traction with the ground....even if he hit the brakes...it might have had less damage maybe...but at that rate of speed and projection towards the outer side...that just says that ANY car doing THAT regardless of the drivers prowess...and possibly tuning...that this accident could HAVE ONLY been avoided had he NOT pushed his car
omg you're such an idiot how are you so stupid... are a few of many things a troll may feel the need to write at this point... hope everyone was ok, and that the insurance paid :) also, 'sprang their vagina'...? at least be coherently ignorant, jeez.
@gitrdonedavid My father died more than 20 years ago and I have myself 3 kids that can write and count better than you in three different languages. You dad must be ashamed.
Looks like you come over the brow of a small rise get a tiny bit of air and the back end skips out, not so much a problem for the porsche with its really wide track but with with the RX8 and its RWD thats game over!
I don't think it was an accident though, it was preventable. Your conclusions seem OK, though I think the cause of the suff seem to be that the road fell away and you then had too little grip. the countersteering you did seem far too little.
Never talk about crashes as "accidents" when they are not. In most cases you know what you as a driver did wrong and you learn from it. The fact that you made the posting shows that you want to learn. I like that - a lot
@unggrabb I think that most crashes are accidents , very few people are trying to crash when they doo. ;-)
As you say you can learn from your mistakes(accidents) but thats hind sight kicking in.
r.e. the spin , it's true looks like the road crests and changes camber all at the same time and with what the poster said about lifting off a little, an easy to do thing on an un-familiar road with interesting camber/height changes.
I see what happened the back end let go over the crest of a bump, nothing you can do if it decides to slip off like that the only way to combat that is to lower it a fair bit more, set the rebound rate up further and the travel further, and some more adjustments to camber to stop it wanting to lift off the road so much.( thats what i would do anyways )
did you end up with another RX8 as a replacement? sorry to see such an unfortunate accident, but its sobering. be thankful you weren't in something really twitchy like an old 911...you might have gone off even further.
@spam420rice They were great on the track :-) not on the road. Everything was done, fully ajustable suspension, ajusted the rebound and the stifness, corner balanced of course. Tuned by a pro, not myself.
@4622201 Congrats, you're the only troll that we had in a while. Your specie must be endangered. Common, keep up the good work. I'm sure you can say more stupid stuff.
i think that everyone is ignoring the fact that at 0:32 or so you can see the front wheel become preloaded, and if you have stiff suspension then that causes your car to crest that hill with relatively no downforce. but i agree with the notion that the slight left turn coming out of the fight turn is what caused you to spin out, if the wheel had been perfectly straight youd be good. think about getting a splitter and a spoiler to keep your wheels on the ground :)
Will drive safer next season... Thanks for explaining and posting the incident. Maybe the suspension was on too much track style oriented settings.
As said before I will drive safely my RX8 esspecialy on previously unknown roads and sections, Thanks. I hope you were allright after the crash. Did you buy another RED or changed colour?
@ghostridertom I was tired of the rotary engine and I needed a bigger car since I now have 3 kids and a great dane. I bought a CX-9 AWD 2011 which is very cool during winter with the snow. I also bought a Ninja 650 for the summer thrills. A new Ducati Streetfighter S is on its way too :-)
This video doesn't do it justice, like you said. I just can't see the turn you are referring to. It looks like it's a straight away from the video. That's crazy. I wrecked my first 8 going around a corner at 65-70ish. I was on an unknown road, it was nighttime, I had semi-bald tires, it was a 1 lane road. But like you said, some lessons have to be learned the hard way. I drive my new 8 much safer :)
This is fairly easy to explain. The right turn (prior to accident) has a positive camber and hence puts more weight on the left side than just a right turn would alone. This combined with the crest at the end of turn meant alot of traction was on the left side of the car, and as a result pulling it as it did to the left. This is remedied with driving in a lower gear (enabling the engine to have more control on the wheels) countersteering, and a smoother transition from a camber. EXP: NASCAR
@joefx69 At last... someone who talks about something he knows. Don't forget to mention that the weight was also shifted at the front when I lifted the gas pedal. Having only one wheel with good traction on the road will not lead you far.
Ahh, makes much more sense now. Kind of amazing how easily it seemed to get traction on one wheel; this definitely detours me away from reckless driving O_o. Thanks for the upload friend!
@joefx69 Just trying to point out something I noticed. He had about 100' of straightway after the right turn and started to move left slightly before the crest. It looks like the ass end just followed through with the left correction at the top of the crest.
At least you are ok PG, sucks about your car though.
@UberFAKnNooB I know that the curve seems very straight and the hill not that steep but in fact it is quite impressive in real life. I don't understand why the video make it look that way.
@PGROTHE No, I can see the crest. I am saying that you hit a short straightaway and made a partial left right before the crest. So the lift could have caused your wheels to go out from behind because of that slight left.
Wow! The Rx8 is known to be a very good handling car! And for it to snap out of control so suddenly... its scary! I wont have catch it either, for sure! And it doesnt seem to me that the driver did any obvious mistake. Tricky bump there! Poor RX8... :(
Wow... I'm surprised at how your gopro stayed on after that hard impact... that suction cup is something...
As for your accident, everyone had their off, especially on a rwd. I had a 360 spin moving off making a right turn from standstill in my S15 and had damages similar to yours when I clipped the barrier. Just one of those days...
It looks like you barely countersteered... a little hump in the road can definitely unsettle car but I think if you countersteered with more lock you could've saved it.
A similar situation happened to me a few months back, but it was on a track. I lifted off the throttle right as I went over a hump/dip in the road and immediately lost the rear but I countersteered and was able to save it. It was recorded by my GoPro as well:
i can hear an increase in engine rpm before you go over the crest so it sounds like you were accelerating over it not lifting off, losing traction as the rear of the car became light - imo :)
@altern8ive I’m sure you're joking. Otherwise you clearly lack any physics knowledge. How would the engine react if there is no more resistance? (No traction on the rear wheels) It would spin very easily, hence the increase in RPM. I’m sure most people would understand that.
@PGROTHE true engine not would increase as the rear went light, but as weight shifts off the rear wheels this would only happen if you held the throttle open not closed due to lifting off. to lose traction on a dry road over a crest suggests to me that pressure was being applied to the throttle, and as i said, its IMO not a criticism of your driving as some have done.
@altern8ive I'm sorry it doesn't really work that way. The revving sound that you ear might come from the fact that I had to counter steer at some point while having practicaly no contact with the ground. Not because I was accelerating in the curve. I made a mistake for sure but I'm not stupid.
@chevyfan2012 Like already said in the description, that curve is a bitch. There is a lot of accidents in that curve every year, mainly motorcyclist driving too fast and being surprised. I learned that after the accident by the first respondent. I don't know why, the way that the video was filmed makes it look almost flat.
lmao, the go pro outlasted the car. hah thats bad. sorry to hear about the accident man. im not knockin you but that seems like way to aggressive of a spin out for just having lifted off the gas. it actually sound like you accelerated during the incident, you can hear the motor revving higher. although if the rear tires did actually come off the ground that would cause the elevation in rpms because the lack of resistance between the wheels and the road. either way, shit sucks!!
@preprodigy Like already explained, only the fact that I lifted off the gas made a significant weight shift. You don't have to drive fast if you are in a tight downhill curve to make you car spin. As you mentionned the rear traction was very light once the weight shifted and that's what made the car spin.
@preprodigy relax man, dont take offense. just remember in this crazy world of life. just because someone tell you something dosent make it fact. we all have to come up with our own conclusions from time to time and all i was doing is going by the facts i got from the video footage. because that is the only true FACT that i have to go by. yeah i read all the posts n responses. but based on footage a few different scenarios could be placed.relax. if u didnt want slack, kill response func on video
@preprodigy It thought that your comment was a good one and that's why I accepted it. I am very relax. It's hard to feel people through text with such short messages. Don't worry I can take critics. No offense taken at all :-)
That's a mistake any of us could have made. It takes a lot of work to override your instinct to lift on the throttle even after years of autocrossing myself. Glad you're ok and it's a great video for people to see what can happen on the street!
Nice car shame bout the crash i gt an R3 not to long ago and Love it hope u get somthing sorted and if u like Rx8's check this out i recorded it on way to japfest 2011 shame couldnt get my R3 in there lol
The reason for the Rx-8 loosing control and the boxster not is because unlike the boxster the Rx-8 has perfect 50/50 weight distribution and when he reached the lip on the road it forced air under the car and therefore he lost control.
@Salsuscanis You obvously didn't bother reading the description or pay close attention to the video. The driver in front of me was scared to death too. He lost control but his line was more straight. The resolution of the video is not that great, but we can clearly see the passenger panicing when his car went airborne and in the second part we can see the rear wheels lifting.
@Salsuscanis You should definitely should read before posting, this has been said many times in many posts and the description of the video explains it all.
oh man, you are so lucky that there was no oncoming traffic! It might have been fatal. I think there is something we all can take away from this video. And that is: it doesn't matter how well you drive, public roads are not for racing. Be it unexpected curve or another driver, going 100 km/h slower than you and you've got a potential crash.
Dude, hope all gets fixed, and what all aftermarket did you have on it, seems like it had a nice sound for what i heard, i have a 350z, goto my channel if you want to see go from 30-125mph
HOly moly! How fast were you guys going? It looks like that car could get back down after that one crest and it couldn't retain traction. Damn luckily shit didn't get too real.
@vboytan There is no way to say how fast, we know for sure that the Porsche Boxster spoiler goes up at 120 km/h (75 m/h) and more and we can clearly see the spoiler raising at the end of the first part.
@vboytan Yep, the insurance paid for the market value of the car, pretty much nothing compared to the amount of money put on it. The fuel economy is very bad, especially when you consider the amount of power coming up of that engine. I was around 15l/100km (convert to m/g if you need to), my CX9 SUV is around 11l/100km, has way more power but not as fun to drive.
@PGROTHE Well I only needed to hear a little bit more so that I would completely change my mind about possibly buying this car over the new WRX and that pretty much did it haha
@vboytanI have a friend with the 2011 wrx, and another friend with like an 08' rx8. They've raced multiple times and the rx8 won every time. They're both of amateur skill, equally so, so it wasnt a biased result. I have to note that the race was done from a roll each time (wrx's downfall because of all wheel drive) but just remember, that in terms of straight line performance...they're just about equal. But more power can easily be brought out of the wrx because of turbo potential. Choose wisely
Yep, your assessment of what happened is exactly what happened, and exactly how my buddy lost his life. Same exact freakin way. Glad you're o.k. and your lesson learned.
good that you posted this. i would be interested to see more photos of car. thinkin of buying this car and wondering its safety. sorry my bad engilsh..
@luumuttaja I don't have much pictures of the car, I'm not a picture guy. But look on google for Mazdaspeed RX-8 and it should be very similar. RX-8 are really cheap these days. Be advises, the gaz is not cheap with these cars.
accelerating trough going trough the top of the hill...low grip on that point, that was a bad decission.. let the car falls down from the hill, and after accelerate. Just play more a need for speed as I do :l
Damn, I hope you were okay after the accident. It's strage though, the curve doesn't look to terrible, must have been the elevation change and the fact that the RX-8 can be a bit twitchy. I myself had a near-miss on a highway once when it was raining, for some reason on a very light curve the car understeered and when I tried to correct it oversteered and I almost ended crashing in the median. DSC was on and it did jack shit.
..too bad driving 0.38 u lost the back of the car why that? because road from uphill goes downhill and u turn beetwen uphill and downhill..turning at that point is stupid if u know some phisics.. hope you are ok
@117zoomzoom Thanks for the explanation, I did know what is RICE. What I'd like @S2audicoupeS2 to tell me is what is RICA on that car. I'm not sure how OEM and some Mazdaspeed equipments can be considered as RICE. If you can buy them as is at the dealership.
@S2audicoupeS2 OK there going arounf 70-90 mph i would guess, and a rx8 is everything but rice, and they werent racing smart one, did you see them line up and say go or honk the horn and floor it???? think before you say dumbshit.

unggrabb 2 months ago
@unggrabb I think that most crashes are accidents , very few people are trying to crash when they doo. ;-)
As you say you can learn from your mistakes(accidents) but thats hind sight kicking in.
r.e. the spin , it's true looks like the road crests and changes camber all at the same time and with what the poster said about lifting off a little, an easy to do thing on an un-familiar road with interesting camber/height changes.

WarlDogg 2 months ago
I see what happened the back end let go over the crest of a bump, nothing you can do if it decides to slip off like that the only way to combat that is to lower it a fair bit more, set the rebound rate up further and the travel further, and some more adjustments to camber to stop it wanting to lift off the road so much.( thats what i would do anyways )

@spam420rice They were great on the track :-) not on the road. Everything was done, fully ajustable suspension, ajusted the rebound and the stifness, corner balanced of course. Tuned by a pro, not myself.

Sry 4 your Car, seem to be a nice one!!
MayCazz 3 months ago
i think that everyone is ignoring the fact that at 0:32 or so you can see the front wheel become preloaded, and if you have stiff suspension then that causes your car to crest that hill with relatively no downforce. but i agree with the notion that the slight left turn coming out of the fight turn is what caused you to spin out, if the wheel had been perfectly straight youd be good. think about getting a splitter and a spoiler to keep your wheels on the ground :)

As said before I will drive safely my RX8 esspecialy on previously unknown roads and sections, Thanks. I hope you were allright after the crash. Did you buy another RED or changed colour?
ghostridertom 3 months ago
@ghostridertom I was tired of the rotary engine and I needed a bigger car since I now have 3 kids and a great dane. I bought a CX-9 AWD 2011 which is very cool during winter with the snow. I also bought a Ninja 650 for the summer thrills. A new Ducati Streetfighter S is on its way too :-)

So sorry about your 8 :(
This video doesn't do it justice, like you said.

@xxBlackpspxx Thanks :-)
PGROTHE 3 months ago
This is fairly easy to explain. The right turn (prior to accident) has a positive camber and hence puts more weight on the left side than just a right turn would alone. This combined with the crest at the end of turn meant alot of traction was on the left side of the car, and as a result pulling it as it did to the left. This is remedied with driving in a lower gear (enabling the engine to have more control on the wheels) countersteering, and a smoother transition from a camber. EXP: NASCAR
joefx69 3 months ago 3
@joefx69 At last... someone who talks about something he knows. Don't forget to mention that the weight was also shifted at the front when I lifted the gas pedal. Having only one wheel with good traction on the road will not lead you far.
PGROTHE 3 months ago
@PGROTHE @joefx69
Ahh, makes much more sense now. Kind of amazing how easily it seemed to get traction on one wheel; this definitely detours me away from reckless driving O_o. Thanks for the upload friend!

@joefx69 : omfg,... finally someone with an intelligent answer.
flyromeo3 3 months ago
@joefx69 Just trying to point out something I noticed. He had about 100' of straightway after the right turn and started to move left slightly before the crest. It looks like the ass end just followed through with the left correction at the top of the crest.
At least you are ok PG, sucks about your car though.
UberFAKnNooB 3 months ago
@UberFAKnNooB I know that the curve seems very straight and the hill not that steep but in fact it is quite impressive in real life. I don't understand why the video make it look that way.
PGROTHE 3 months ago
@PGROTHE No, I can see the crest. I am saying that you hit a short straightaway and made a partial left right before the crest. So the lift could have caused your wheels to go out from behind because of that slight left.
UberFAKnNooB 3 months ago
@UberFAKnNooB that's possible, good observation.

looks like he turned alittle to the left just as he went over the top.. probably just enough to loose grip/weight on the back end.. bummer.
burningsociety 3 months ago
Wow... I'm surprised at how your gopro stayed on after that hard impact... that suction cup is something...
As for your accident, everyone had their off, especially on a rwd. I had a 360 spin moving off making a right turn from standstill in my S15 and had damages similar to yours when I clipped the barrier. Just one of those days...
geezmoz 3 months ago
It looks like you barely countersteered... a little hump in the road can definitely unsettle car but I think if you countersteered with more lock you could've saved it.
A similar situation happened to me a few months back, but it was on a track. I lifted off the throttle right as I went over a hump/dip in the road and immediately lost the rear but I countersteered and was able to save it. It was recorded by my GoPro as well:
/watch?v=dMD6d7Ojea4&t=7m10s
Glad to see you are okay though!
esproductionsca 3 months ago
I have to go with Altern8ive, this crash wouldn't of happened if you didn't accelerate while turning the wheels.
Anapwntian 3 months ago
@Anapwntian It would be a great comment if someone would actually had accelerated... but sadly you're wrong.
PGROTHE 3 months ago
i can hear an increase in engine rpm before you go over the crest so it sounds like you were accelerating over it not lifting off, losing traction as the rear of the car became light - imo :)
altern8ive 3 months ago
@altern8ive I’m sure you're joking. Otherwise you clearly lack any physics knowledge. How would the engine react if there is no more resistance? (No traction on the rear wheels) It would spin very easily, hence the increase in RPM. I’m sure most people would understand that.
PGROTHE 3 months ago
@PGROTHE true engine not would increase as the rear went light, but as weight shifts off the rear wheels this would only happen if you held the throttle open not closed due to lifting off. to lose traction on a dry road over a crest suggests to me that pressure was being applied to the throttle, and as i said, its IMO not a criticism of your driving as some have done.
altern8ive 3 months ago
@altern8ive I'm sorry it doesn't really work that way. The revving sound that you ear might come from the fact that I had to counter steer at some point while having practicaly no contact with the ground. Not because I was accelerating in the curve. I made a mistake for sure but I'm not stupid.
Thanks for the comment anyway
PGROTHE 3 months ago
How did u lose control that curve wasnt that bad
chevyfan2012 3 months ago
@chevyfan2012 Like already said in the description, that curve is a bitch. There is a lot of accidents in that curve every year, mainly motorcyclist driving too fast and being surprised. I learned that after the accident by the first respondent. I don't know why, the way that the video was filmed makes it look almost flat.
PGROTHE 3 months ago

PGROTHE 3 months ago 5
lmao, the go pro outlasted the car. hah thats bad. sorry to hear about the accident man. im not knockin you but that seems like way to aggressive of a spin out for just having lifted off the gas. it actually sound like you accelerated during the incident, you can hear the motor revving higher. although if the rear tires did actually come off the ground that would cause the elevation in rpms because the lack of resistance between the wheels and the road. either way, shit sucks!!
preprodigy 3 months ago
@preprodigy Like already explained, only the fact that I lifted off the gas made a significant weight shift. You don't have to drive fast if you are in a tight downhill curve to make you car spin. As you mentionned the rear traction was very light once the weight shifted and that's what made the car spin.
PGROTHE 3 months ago
@preprodigy relax man, dont take offense. just remember in this crazy world of life. just because someone tell you something dosent make it fact. we all have to come up with our own conclusions from time to time and all i was doing is going by the facts i got from the video footage. because that is the only true FACT that i have to go by. yeah i read all the posts n responses. but based on footage a few different scenarios could be placed.relax. if u didnt want slack, kill response func on video
preprodigy 3 months ago
@preprodigy It thought that your comment was a good one and that's why I accepted it. I am very relax. It's hard to feel people through text with such short messages. Don't worry I can take critics. No offense taken at all :-)
PGROTHE 3 months ago
That's a mistake any of us could have made. It takes a lot of work to override your instinct to lift on the throttle even after years of autocrossing myself. Glad you're ok and it's a great video for people to see what can happen on the street!
chrisaz82 3 months ago
Nice car shame bout the crash i gt an R3 not to long ago and Love it hope u get somthing sorted and if u like Rx8's check this out i recorded it on way to japfest 2011 shame couldnt get my R3 in there lol
leememory123 3 months ago
The reason for the Rx-8 loosing control and the boxster not is because unlike the boxster the Rx-8 has perfect 50/50 weight distribution and when he reached the lip on the road it forced air under the car and therefore he lost control.
porsche4L 3 months ago
how can you be surprised by a road the driver in front of you didnt have a issue. Bad driving is just bad driving
Salsuscanis 4 months ago
@Salsuscanis You obvously didn't bother reading the description or pay close attention to the video. The driver in front of me was scared to death too. He lost control but his line was more straight. The resolution of the video is not that great, but we can clearly see the passenger panicing when his car went airborne and in the second part we can see the rear wheels lifting.
PGROTHE 4 months ago
@PGROTHE ok why not just wait until the track? Just imagine a car full of kids comming over the bend instead of running into a bunch of trees .

oh man, you are so lucky that there was no oncoming traffic! It might have been fatal. I think there is something we all can take away from this video. And that is: it doesn't matter how well you drive, public roads are not for racing. Be it unexpected curve or another driver, going 100 km/h slower than you and you've got a potential crash.

HOly moly! How fast were you guys going? It looks like that car could get back down after that one crest and it couldn't retain traction. Damn luckily shit didn't get too real.
vboytan 4 months ago
@vboytan There is no way to say how fast, we know for sure that the Porsche Boxster spoiler goes up at 120 km/h (75 m/h) and more and we can clearly see the spoiler raising at the end of the first part.
PGROTHE 4 months ago
@PGROTHE that sucks man so were you covered by insurance. BTW how bad is the fuel economy on this car?
vboytan 4 months ago
@vboytan Yep, the insurance paid for the market value of the car, pretty much nothing compared to the amount of money put on it. The fuel economy is very bad, especially when you consider the amount of power coming up of that engine. I was around 15l/100km (convert to m/g if you need to), my CX9 SUV is around 11l/100km, has way more power but not as fun to drive.
PGROTHE 4 months ago
@PGROTHE Well I only needed to hear a little bit more so that I would completely change my mind about possibly buying this car over the new WRX and that pretty much did it haha
vboytan 4 months ago
@vboytan I'm glad I helped you ;-) WRX is the way to go, no cheap on the gaz too but I least you have decent performance.
PGROTHE 4 months ago
@PGROTHE Yeah, it's only a little bit better and they both run on premium but the wrx gets going when you step on it. Thanks man haha
It was a tough choice.
vboytan 4 months ago
@vboytanI have a friend with the 2011 wrx, and another friend with like an 08' rx8. They've raced multiple times and the rx8 won every time. They're both of amateur skill, equally so, so it wasnt a biased result. I have to note that the race was done from a roll each time (wrx's downfall because of all wheel drive) but just remember, that in terms of straight line performance...they're just about equal. But more power can easily be brought out of the wrx because of turbo potential. Choose wisely
Bischlarbo69 3 months ago
@Bischlarbo69 yawn. RX7 > RX8. The end. RX8 doesnt have exactly 50/50 like RX7 and RX7 is significantly lighter, and more powerful. YAWN.
RemixEvolution2011 3 months ago

rwy1984 5 months ago
Damn, I hope you were okay after the accident. It's strage though, the curve doesn't look to terrible, must have been the elevation change and the fact that the RX-8 can be a bit twitchy. I myself had a near-miss on a highway once when it was raining, for some reason on a very light curve the car understeered and when I tried to correct it oversteered and I almost ended crashing in the median. DSC was on and it did jack shit.

So the traction control was switched off at the time?
