Leona is really overrated if you ask me...Her lower register doesn't resonate well and the upper register isn't as soulful or powerful as the singers she idolizes.
I do happen to like them both, so as for the haters (Leona Haters)... got a record deal? No? Then STFU. Don't like the music... be like every other normal person and don't buy it (or look up the videos). Or does that make too much sense?

Leona's voice would still be just as beautiful had there been a Mariah Carey or not. Sure, Mariah may have inspired her, but do you really think that Mariah had part in her talent? Every new entertainer that surfaces is immediately compared to someone else. Again, let her be her and continue to work on her own unique talent.
P.S.S.- Mariah sings the way she does now for the same reason Madonna took a year long break. Singing like that all the time ruins your vocal chords and can lead to vocal paralysis. After decades of singing to the fullest, she had to stop. She still sings like that from time to time, but it happens to all singers eventually. Vocal chords are precious things and if you strain them all the time, they will stop working.
And in terms of comparing Madonna with any other "Diva" (Mariah, Whitney, Beyonce', Christina, etc..) in terms of RECORD SALES ONLY is pointless because Madonna is STILL at the top of the list, just under Michael Jackson. It's also pointless to compare any of them in terms of singing voices because, while they're all the same generalized genre, they sound nothing alike.
Let's not forget that a lot of Mariah's songs were cover songs! Yes, she had a TON of original songs as well.. But this, along with at least 15 other #1 Mariah hits are covers of songs by other people.

Leona is in no way close to Mariah. Sure, she might have the range, but does leona have the most number 1 hits as a solo artist? Does she have the massive fan base? Does she have that beautiful, pure tone? Does she have all those textures? Does she have that rare beautiful tonal quality when she belts? No. Its a shame how people think Leona is better when she actually has an annoying voice that hurts your ears.
