Hi Michael - interesting stuff, especially the disclaimer! Bare fingers and power sanders are an interesting combination I find!
I meant to contact you as I just acquired some cherry which I have never used before for guitar necks - any peculiarities with cherry that I need to look out for? It smelt lovely when I planed it
@MrRandomWritings Cherry is lovely to work, though have to watch the grain a little, sharp tools, or rasps as always... It my favourite neck wood for small ukes right now. For 6 strings guitars I feel it benefits from lamination as its less stable than mahogany or cedrela. I have that disclaimer on all my videos, just in the notes below normally though, In this case my tripod was broken during filming and i know i was doing things less safe than usual holding the camera in one hand....
@michaeljking Thanks for that - I'm strictly 3 strings and not at full tension (eg E string tuned D and so on) so I hope it will hold up well enough. I oiled a sample and it looks quite attractive so I'm hoping for good things
@michaeljking Have just carved my first cherry neck. I always thought wood was wood till I started this game! After thewalnut it's like working with cream! Very pleased with it so far but still a lot of sanding to do and in this heat it's not fun!

Ah, jeeze. Another thing to add to my "to do" list. This will have to wait until I have my ukulele finished (I have to finish the frets and make the nut/bridge).
PLEASE stop using your left palm as an anvil while using an awl (4:04), you're scaring me! LOL

@MrRandomWritings 3 strings no problem... I do have a slab of rosewood on top of my stick dulcimers though!

How cool is this? Great video. I am a low brass player (trombone and euphonium mainly), but I love this concept.
