Wasn't hard to beat? Did you actually face Ozma? He is rated as the most difficult boss in the entire series, and FF9 is easy? Sure easy to beat, but the extra shit you have to get in order to complete the game is super hard!

The theory of Necron being the boss inside lifa tree is one i tend to run with. It has some things to back it up in the games lore. Though for many these were often way too quick and out of palces one lines here and there :S
And while it floats my boat, it certainly was confusing to me too the first time around and i think it deserves critism despite how awsome the rest of the game is :)
Nice review man, this game really is under-appreciated. Only cuz FF8 and FF7 were futuristic setting games and the fact that this went back to its classic tone was probably not quite as well respected. The story by itself is amazing.

Good review but you should have put a beginning part where Vivi walks trough sunny Alexandria! That's the first scene I saw on a TV and loved it. The designers really wanted to bring that FF to the origins and I think they did it. After so many FF games that go into "modern setting", FFXV, if it's made, should be like FFIX's medieval setting - a return to the roots. They need to do this at least once in a while beside regularly killing the series.

Sounds promising. I just recently bought it from the PlayStation Store and it seems pretty theatrical, which is not something I expected; I like this unique feature to the game.
Final Fantasy IX is one my favorite games of all time, when I play it it brings me back to when I was a kid playing it and being so into the engaging story.

im like you the plot twists just didnt sit well with me. The first few discs were really good and i followed along but then when garland shows up and you go to gaia....yeah thats where i got lost. I loved everything else about the game though battle system and weapons and all.
About the Crystal and Necron. It's like this. After discovering that he's mortal, Kuja goes on a suicide mission to destroy the Crystal, which is the source of all life on Gaia. He figures if he's going down, he's taking everyone with him. Necron emerges from the destroyed Crystal. Assuming that the humans destroyed the source of all life, he deems mankind too self-destructive to survive. So he sets out to finish the job for them. But he is defeated (and proven wrong) by Zidane and the party.
When playing this game on the PS3, are the graphics enhanced at all from the PSN version or the original disc? Also, does buying from PSN crop the game screen on a HDTV? I hate when my while screen isn't in use...thanx in advance guys...
@allacazzip123 naah you're wrong, I can't play ps2 games. I got my ps3 a year and a half after they came out. even if my ps3 could play ps2 games, i would still use my ps2 because they look like shit on the ps3.
FFIX is somewhat a bit easy - yes. But its value lies within the storyline and the characters. It's a story about friendship, home, life and death... Such themes that we all struggle with in one way or another.
As for Necron and the crystal I think they are more of a philosophical symbolization coherent with the theme of the story, and should not be regarded as actual objects. I didn't find them misplaced. Especially regarding the nature of Memoria.
I hate FFVII, FFVIII, FFX and especially FFXII... and also FFXIII. They just ruin the reasons I could ever have to love Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy IX though is like a dream coming through. Oh, and if you wonder why I have FFXII especially - gambits, stupid fighting system, lame music, silly characters, stupid story ripping off Star Wars in many ways... FFXII is the worst game I've ever played. Thank god for FFIX.

Once you got the hang of the junctioning system in 8 it was actually pretty usefull. Also, there was a system in 9. Your equipement had abilities you could learn if you spent enough time using it, then afterwards in the skills section you had a certain amount of AP and every ability costs some ap and you have to decide which skills you wanted respecting its cost. You of course already know this I am sure, I am just saying 9 did have a system.
I think you should make more video game reviews. You are very good at describing this game into deep detail. I enjoyed it. Maybe you can give FF XIII a review :]
In terms of the plot flaws - Necron is justified in a more philosophical sense. Although I wasn't that much of a fan of him, I thought he made a very good boss battle.
Best FF-games: FFIV FFVI FFVII FFVII: Crisis Core FFIX FFX VIII is mediocre because I really couldn't get into the gameplay. V's story was so boring, I played it for one hour, and then I quit. FFI-II-III never grabbed my attention. FFX-2, a disgrace to X FFXII, a big W-T-F?!?! FFXIII, enjoyable, but not FF-like. Too linear, too much Action-elements in it...
@38GencFenerli VIII took me a long time to appreciate because the junction system was so annoying but once i worked through it i really enjoyed it. I should probably put VI higher up on the list ahead of VIII
@Fragadactilobs Definitely. I have VIII too but like the first two discs were good, but then it really started getting shitty. The story was just grabbing my attention, but then Edea being this and that just really screwed it for me. The card game is what I don't like also, the Junctioning thing and having to draw every battle to have alot of different magic is just annoying. I just couldn't get into it..

FFX-2= i looked past it faults and found an enjoyable game

Funny thing is that, when I first played the game, I pronounced Zidane as Ze-dayne to.
It wasn't untill Dissidia came out that I realized that his name is pronounced as Zih-dahn.

im like you the plot twists just didnt sit well with me. The first few discs were really good and i followed along but then when garland shows up and you go to gaia....yeah thats where i got lost. I loved everything else about the game though battle system and weapons and all.

About the Crystal and Necron. It's like this. After discovering that he's mortal, Kuja goes on a suicide mission to destroy the Crystal, which is the source of all life on Gaia. He figures if he's going down, he's taking everyone with him. Necron emerges from the destroyed Crystal. Assuming that the humans destroyed the source of all life, he deems mankind too self-destructive to survive. So he sets out to finish the job for them. But he is defeated (and proven wrong) by Zidane and the party.

When playing this game on the PS3, are the graphics enhanced at all from the PSN version or the original disc? Also, does buying from PSN crop the game screen on a HDTV? I hate when my while screen isn't in use...thanx in advance guys...

you have the 1 version of the ps3 that playes ps2 and ps1 games ...
they discontinued that 1 verseion a few months after they put it out ...
there are no other ps3s that play previous playstation games :(

FFIX is somewhat a bit easy - yes. But its value lies within the storyline and the characters. It's a story about friendship, home, life and death... Such themes that we all struggle with in one way or another.
As for Necron and the crystal I think they are more of a philosophical symbolization coherent with the theme of the story, and should not be regarded as actual objects. I didn't find them misplaced. Especially regarding the nature of Memoria.

I hate FFVII, FFVIII, FFX and especially FFXII... and also FFXIII. They just ruin the reasons I could ever have to love Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy IX though is like a dream coming through. Oh, and if you wonder why I have FFXII especially - gambits, stupid fighting system, lame music, silly characters, stupid story ripping off Star Wars in many ways... FFXII is the worst game I've ever played. Thank god for FFIX.

this was in my recommended video and yes ff9 is best you would have to have no taste in rpg at all to dislike this game best music ,best story ,best graphics
as for necron he is copy of Necrophobe from FFV remember this game is a tribute to past ff games cut scenes in this game are epic especially for its time you also say this game is not challenging have you battled ozma and please stop comparing rpg to shooters

Once you got the hang of the junctioning system in 8 it was actually pretty usefull. Also, there was a system in 9. Your equipement had abilities you could learn if you spent enough time using it, then afterwards in the skills section you had a certain amount of AP and every ability costs some ap and you have to decide which skills you wanted respecting its cost. You of course already know this I am sure, I am just saying 9 did have a system.

FFIX is my favourite game of all time!
In terms of the plot flaws - Necron is justified in a more philosophical sense. Although I wasn't that much of a fan of him, I thought he made a very good boss battle.

@Fragadactilobs Definitely. I have VIII too but like the first two discs were good, but then it really started getting shitty. The story was just grabbing my attention, but then Edea being this and that just really screwed it for me. The card game is what I don't like also, the Junctioning thing and having to draw every battle to have alot of different magic is just annoying. I just couldn't get into it..
