At the end of the day, different things get different people. I'm a visual person, and these J horrors are all visual. Seeing things lurking in the background (what you aren't meant to spot sometimes) gives me a thrill and tbh it's not something you see

Hiragana and Katakana do look very different from Kanji; but if you don't know anything about Asian languages then you wouldn't know the difference until you were taught.

Thinking that Japanese and Chinese are the same language though, is of course, very silly. They're two very different countries.
