i think that clp stuff is crap used it to lube my gun and it started acting funny i would use rem oil over that stuff anyday! Plus they have bore solvents that works way way way better!
its like the least of both worlds if u ask me a little clean and a little lube but not much of either!
@3btheo i have the same gun xd subcompact .40 when i first bought it i had a few rounds catch on the feed ramp. After some more rounds the slide stayed back and i could just drop it with the switch. After a few more rounds my buddies colt 1911 gold cup national match had more malfuctions than me b/c i had none!
GOOD VIDEO YOU MAY WANT TO SAVE YOUR OLD TOOTHBRUSHES THEY COME IN HANDY ALSO YOUR DREMEL DOES WONDERS ON YOUR FEED RAMP INVEST IN FLITZ POLISH IT WORKS GOOD ON STAINLESS STAY-SAFE..........
Merddyn - You DO NOT want to leave the BORE "thoroughly lubricated" as you demonstrate in this vid. It is absolutely not neccesary or recommended for normal use by the manufacturer. Doing so will only collect residue in the bore. Also, you should not drench the upper slide area of a striker-fired pistol. Reason - Residue along with the lubricant will get into the firing pin hole and other undesirable areas. If it is needed, detail strip the pistol. One or the other.
nice! great review. i just picked up this gun myself and i'm liking it. about how often does one normally clean it? i'm assuming if you're using it as your conceal carry, then pretty often to avoid any jamming. but how often is often?
great review! but i dont prefer grease im in the car business and this is the same as far as mechanics, use oil there will be to much dirt build up with grease unlike oil , oil would burn off causing no dirt build up , and if you service your weapon regularly it shouldnt be a problem
thinking about picking up a taurus 24 7 pro 9mm as my first hand gun. what do you think about this gun for a beginner or are there any other you would suggest starting with?
For my ears, I use nothing but Q-tip brand cotton swabs. For my firearms, I use the cheap Walmart brand. Why? Q-tips are TOO plush and soft and leave behind a lot of lint and fuzz. Great for ears, bad for firearms.
I appreciate the time/effort this man put into making this video. It was informative enough to make his point. I don't understand why there are any negative comments at all. Its not as if we purchase this video at some ridiculous price. Does it honestly matter what type of gun he's using....nay-sayers need to shut the f-up.
This was a good video and I encourage more like it,
This is a ok video, But the guy needs to do some research before putting crap on youtube. He is using a magazine cleaning brush to clean the barrel. This is a nylon brush and not a good choice for barrel cleaning it can trap deposits and mess up your gun. Use a good brass brush and forget what this mis-informed gun teaches. Your gun will last alot longer.
It's interesting to me that you can make comments about others, yet do not even want people to know what you look like since you have no profile picture, nor any videos of your own.
I would comment on your other remarks but that would be a waste of time as everyone can tell you are clearly an idiot. :)
Very informative video! One thing I noticed towards the end of your presentation, was you seemed to have to really push on the XD to get the loaded magazine out.
I just baught a XD 40 Tatical, I have noticed the same thing. An un loaded magazine is easy to discharge, but a loaded one needs a little extra umpth to remove.
I don't think it is a big deal, just a simple observation! Thanks for the demo, I learned a lot. I am fairly new to firearms but I am quickly learning!
GREAT Video.... I have one critique though... The use of the word "Umm". It was said 13 times in the first minute alone. That's all... Thanks for the info.
all your vids are very thorough. just bought the exact same XD40. knew you would show me how to clean it. thanks. keep up the great work for some of us newbies.
Awesome video man. I just bought a Taurus 24/7 .40, and being relatively new to guns (shot friends, never owned my own) you videos on the 24/7 have been extremely helpful to me in the care and maintenance of the gun. Thanks, keep up the great work.
Thanks for taking the time to do your cleaning presentation. I just bought a Spiringfield .40 sub-compact and your video answered some of my cleaning questions..
One more questions, I figured the bore brush was too corse for the outside frame. I was afraid of scratching the finish. From your video, it looks like it is ok to use?
Thanks for the how-to. Have owned my XD for about a year now without having put many rounds through it and have been wanting to clean it... just didn't know how. :-) If you get a chance to figure out how to do a comprehensive cleaning, not just the field strip, I'd watch that too. Thanks!
good educational video. How come when you load the gun you put the round in from the top and not from the mag? I always put the mag in then rack the slide then drop the mag and replace the round.
you said that you traded a laptop for your new gun... i was wondering if there are any legal issues needed to be taken care of when you get a gun off someone other than a gun shop. if you could let me know that would be greatly appreciated cause ive only bought brand new guns and am in the market for a used gun
That completely depends on what State you live in, but in most cases if you are buying a gun from an individual, you will have to have a Federal Firearms License holder do the paper work and complete the sale. In California that means the seller has to bring, or ship the gun to the person with the FFL, and you go in and fill out some papers, and they do a background check on you, and then hold the gun for 10 days to make sure the CA DOJ doesn't say you are prohibited from buying a gun.
Just out of curiousity...how did you film this? It looks like things are mirrored? I know the take down lever and slide catch are on the left of an XD. In the vid its on the right... Just a curiousity question...
yeah, my webcam was set to mirror the video so stuff that appears on the left is actually on the right, etc. I need to add an annotation about that in the video.
Thx man... great video... I just bought a Kimber 1911 .45 and I have a good idea how to go about taking it apart now. I had been carrying my taurus .38 revolver and that was easy to clean. lol.
traded the 40 for a 24/7. I've shot my buddy's XD. I like em. They feel good and they're american made. Very durable too from what I can tell. My only issue is lack of thumb safety. The new XD XM has a thumb safety and looks SWEET but only available in 9mm.
I'm pretty sure the gun is purely Croatian. The XD series is simply the name given to it by Springfield. It was previously sold as the HS2000 until when in 2002 Springfield purchased the selling rights. (HS2000=XD-9) Look on the top and side of the slide. Don't worry though, this gun- like many other great guns was formed and evolved over and over from a previously inferior model. Personally I think it's kinda sneaky for Sprinfield to print USA on the side!!
thanks man, I just got my first poly base pistol, a Springfield XD-M. My other three pistols (S&W .38, RUger single Six, and my 1911) are all all metal, so I had been using Hoppes. But my buddy warned me that normal gun solvents ruin poly, so I think I will try this CLP, so I can use it on all my firearms.
Hey, is that BreakFree Stuff safe to use on poly bases? Right now I am using Hoppes No 9 for my barrel and slide and poly safe gunscrubber for my reciever.
i would oil it at least once a month if you dont' shoot it and clean it within at least a few hours after shooting it. That's my general rule. I can't sleep with a dirty gun in the house.
Nice video very well put together but that is not a slide drop you should never use your thumb to drop the slide instead do a full rack slide the proper way !
Hello, well first off the only gun made w/ a slide release are the Sig. pistols, most other guns are know to be a slide lock w/ that said I'm assuming these weapon's are for self-defense by using the thumb method the slide is not coming from all the way back to slam the round into the chamber and secondly under stress where your fingers turn to flippers it will be easier to use your hold hand instead of your thumb your also guaranteed a round in the chamber regardless if you lose one round.
ahhh, yeah, i see where you're coming from now and agree. If you're loading a round from a magazine then you should rack back fully and release to load properly. But if you watch me in the vid i'm setting a round in the pipe manually and then loading the magazine. Obviously you woudlnt' do that in a tactical situation, it just makes it easier to load with max ammo so I don't have to load from the magazine, eject mag and reload another round in the mag. you're right. in combat you load like that
Fully understood yes I did notice btw, but it is better to practice this way so when slide lock occurs your in that habit forming state and always ready to rock and roll.
awesome man , i see we have the same taste in guns. i have myself an xd .40 as well but the sub-compact great great gun. And just got a glock 17 on thurs, i finally gave in to the glock . Have fun shooting that XD
Loading the round into the chamber, and letting it slam closed is a good way to break the extractor, load from mag and top off mag after.
