Gor Minasyan ALMOST won the Gold. Watch out for the Armenians in the 105+ category in the coming years. With Ruben Aleksanyan, Gor Minasyan, and Misha Muradyan all in their teenage years.
@KizZBG that would be too troublesome trying to calculate every single lift and attempt for every single lifter. that is why there different weight categories, it is up to the lifter to get to his/her heaviest bodyweight within his/her weight category.
Wow, he looks chubby, but bloody hell he doesnt look 340!
As an aside any idea why this is done in terms of absolute weight (ie 196kg lifted) rather than in terms of competitors bodyweight lifted (ie 1.26 x Bodyweight lifted).
Seems like bodyweight would be the farer way of doing it.
@passwordresetisbroke Since it wud be rly unfair, u see, the 69kg guys lifted 161 kg... 2.33333... x his bodyweight, Which makes being lighter gives an advantage. And no one will lift as heavy... Cuz u lose if u are that big

@daniel355273 True, but what exactly is impressive about a 155kg man lifting a few kilos over his bodyweight when compared to someone lifting 2.3 times thiers?
And how would it be unfair? Competitors from everyclass bar the 85+ (or whatever the full olympic equivalent is) have to be careful to maximise strength while staying at a certain bodyweight. It would simply apply that to the "superheavy" class also.
@Pokarface7 there's a chance that will see more of this guy in the Olympics one day

@passwordresetisbroke
That's why they have bodyweight classes and the medal goes to the person who lifted the most in that weight class.
ShotokanKarateRules 1 year ago
@ShotokanKarateRules I know how weight classes work :?
I just wonder why % of bodyweight isnt used instead as it is simply more fair.
passwordresetisbroke 1 year ago
Yeah, I see your point. I don't know either. But I think weight classes is fair enough.
