  • Thanks for that information!!! I was looking for the long-term results. You saved me money to NOT buy a heat gun. I will ceck out the forever black,,, thanks again!

  • THANKS I LOVE YOU I WAS ABOUT TO GET SOMETHING THAT RESTORES IT BUT THIS WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!

  • Tried it on my bmw. It turns gray after a few days or hours. Dont do it. Youre better off using other products like forever black

  • Thats an awesome tip, thanks :-)

  • it would be great if heat gun could restore all bodywork: remove rust, restore paint... :D

  • Ha Dude CHECK OUT A WELL KNOW FIX PEANUT BUTTER EXTRA CREAM YA YOU HEARD ME RIGHT PEANUT BUTTER. YOU LIKE THE LONG LASTING SHINE OR ARE YOU TO GOOD FOR THIS

  • How long does the black color stay before it fades back to the ugly gray color?

  • @productionskak a post above says it turns back to gray a few days later.

  • Nice! I will try this on my 850 T5. Does the heat melt the plastic and make a new surface, or?

  • Idd, but it is a Golf mk2;)

  • Jeah I think, no i have the small bumpers andi The Same color of it is polarsilber. Ive just put a westy front to it and other us stuff, but these small bumpers are hard to get down here.. I just like the us style on german cars:D

  • @wallalicious I've never liked the westy front on a Jetta. But I guess that's a matter of personal taste :)

  • I gonne try this on my mk2. I wish I had youre bumpers couse i have euro stock bumpers.

It's very hard to find here in europe.

    Greetz

  • @wallalicious That's kind of funny, people in the US are always trying to get the thin euro bumpers! I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, eh? As I understand it you got big bumpers in 1990 along with the US.

  • can this be done on a original piece of plastic that was the color gray/silver??

  • @IMHOSSBOSS Probably not.

  • so....How does this idea work on plastic headlights?

  • Gave this a try today borrowed a heat gun and went about restoring the trim and running boards on my "98 Honda Passport but, I think my oxidation was not as bad as I thought it did work a bit but, Not worth doing the whole thing.

My guess is this would work great if your parts are vary oxidized to the point they are powder grey but, Still it did help a bit so thanks for the tips a good cleaning and some armour all did the trick for me =]

  • Ok, I just bought a heat gun, What setting should I put it on? its a 1500 watt..but either at 572 degrees or 1112 degrees?

  • @tietie1424 The highest setting and keep it moving and don`t touch it till it hardens again =]

  • great video man thanks!!

  • I did this yesterday to my Jeep fender flares and I cant get an even black. There are streaks running through it no matter what I try. I guess I will just take them off and paint them with Krylon Fusion.

  • omg i have the same car! amazing dude! im wondering if you can fix dull color with a heat gun on the tirm of the windows...

  • how much does that heat gun cost? i know its programable up to around 650 degress c, im in the united states ive never seen that heat gun before

  • How long does the effect last for? Is this something that needs to be repeated often?

  • @czarpete it just melts the oxidized plastic off. It will need to be repeated when the plastic oxidizes again.

  • It doesn't melt anything (if you do it correctly.) The heat draws the pigment in the plastic to the surface.

  • On those cars it lasted about a year... though the bumpers on the brown car are nowhere as bad as they were when we started... just not as good as when I had finished with the heat gun.

  • @compu85 can it be used on a plastic black strip on a opel corsa

  • @compu85 yes this other qwestion.i bought a cheap heat gun from parkside

i repaint the plastic its opel corsa.if i use heat gun than paint be gone ????

you put gun close to plastic fair away ?

  • @koioo2 The heat gun is quite close to the plastic strip. You won't damage the paint if you keep the heat gun moving.

    -Jason

  • @compu85 jason won t strip black paint on the bumper that correct ?

  • Petty it can't fix the chip marks on the front of the bonnet :-)

  • use body fill and paint on those.

  • I have also used a blowtorch, and it came out fine on my Mk2 golf, which I think is what this car is isnt it?

  • how did u find out how to do that

  • Thank You!

  • wow good job

  • What temperature did you use in the heat gun??

  • It's highest setting.

  • wow

  • Genius.

Just used a blowtorch ( a little excessive, but it's all I had!) and it came up a treat.

Vauxhall Corsa 98 Plate. (And they're the worst!)

    Thnx!

  • lol...that's quite a jump from a heat gun to a blow torch!....i couldn't help but laugh when i read your comment, even admiting it was a little exessive! but whatever works! have a good one pal!

  • Cheers for the vidoe, i was a bit worried about trying it to before i saw this!

How long do es it last? Do you treat the plastic with anything afterwards?

  • We didn't treat it with anything. A year later and the plastics are still looking ok, they might need another treatment on the brown car... but they look a lot better then they did before the first treatment!

  • That's amazing! How does it work?

  • It re-flows the top layer of plastic.

  • if you can control the heat setting, turn it down a little for the hood grid.

  • thats amazing! 5/5
