Drums don't matter in Metallica. Even if Lars knew how to play like this, most of the nuances would be lost after the bass, the guitar riffs, and Hetfields voice, and Kirk's soloing. Rock doesn't necessarily need their drummers to be this technical.

You should try removing each piece of your drum set separately and try to create interesting music with each individual drum + cymbal. When you get back to playing the whole kit, your playing will certainly be more interesting.
