Yeah, it is an homage to the infamous "Staircase Shell Trick" that is in Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario Brothers 2 (the Japanese version)/Super Mario Brothers: For Super Players/Super Mario Brothers: The Lost Levels/Super Mario Brothers 2: For Super Players, Versus Super Mario Brothers, All Night Nippon Super Mario Brothers, and Super Mario Brothers Special, glitchhunter09. Anyway, I did not know about this trick and another trick that involves a Klump and getting 40 lives from him, too.

You gotta do it right when the Krusha hits the wall so he will turn back and continue the other way, in this right moment you slide, you don't jump, you just simply slide onto the Krusha, and the magic begins :D
