They didn't make QWERTY keyboards to slow you down - The calculations for keyboard layout were based on the language being typed (different keyboard layouts would be needed for each language). In English speaking countries for example the first row is QWERTY, but in French speaking countries it is AZERTY. Moves to change the layout to increase speed have been largely ignored or resisted due to familiarity with the existing layout among touch typists.

I love the Dvorak layout. It's SO much better than QWERTY...but I must say that it's not really a NEW thing...

@thewii552 i know, i say it new because more than half the people out their don't know about it yet. and big business don't want to try to change the slandered keyboard.... so i guess it new to them :P

before ,I used QWERTY to type. my average is 45 :D and now i using dvorak to type just a week i can type it now :D... but i can type over 40 yet :(

Once you get really good at Dvorak, get a Das keyboard to bug your friends. Not only is it blank, the layout will be "weird"

@Favar0 because now their are so many qwerty keyboard that it now is the standered keyboard and companies don't want to try something that now standered. Their still places u can buy it online, but it just that they know people will buy standered thing not unstandered

Actually the reason you cant type fast and your fingers arnt being so stretched out is cause you arnt using the j, and f for typing and qwerty is like that cause then the letters you most use are in the center and the less used ones are on the outside try and watch your fingers type u use the inside ones the most

Interesting video but problem is learning it would be incredibly difficult because the keys on your keyboard are labeled qwerty so as you're learning you won't know where each key is and also if you went to work somewhere else or at a school for example a library wherever everywhere else uses qwerty yeh arguably you could remove and replace keys or buy a dvorak keyboard but I've got a £80 keyboard and I don't wanna mess with it :P

@TeachComputing haha :P that was the problem for me, so i made a C# application that gave me a small DVORAK keyboard on the bottem right of my screen so i could look their it was the top most, and was pretty annoying at first adventually i just got used to the keyboard and didnt have to use it anymore, but i get what u mean it would really suck when u first learn it.

@chiesarahah Thank you for commenting, it nice to see the feedback and it takes a while to learn how to type using the dvorak keyboard, it took me a while to get used to it, but now in the long run it really paid off...and you don't have to be sorry for your English every one learns sometime.
