The British Bone Marrow Donar Appeal was a charity that was founded in 1987 to aid leukemia patients and Brian become involved in 1989 when one patient requested that this song be played at her funeral. This version, released the same year, was performed by Ian Meeson and Belinda Gillett and sales of the single raised £150,000. He remained a patron of the charity until it closed in 2005. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any more direct info on the children.
