Gotta say, I like the Shi'a scholasticism. The Marja' looks at home in this world- al hamdullilah. I suppose I am a 'sunni' in the less doctrinal sense of that so abused word. Shism is really vibrant internally. The issues of dispute are with secularist who, in their own terms of reference, have legit. claims. Sunni Ulama in most cases have bin controlled by the rulers and not as vibrant as they were in a distant period (which ws also an unstable period)

true brother, but there are downsides to this kind of exclusive clerical establishment in shi'ism as it promotes "taqlid" or blind following, which is haram. As for scholasticism itself, you need no further to look than Al-Azhar University in Egypt as the bastion of learning for Sunni Islam.

Also, it is not like Shia ulema have not been oppressed in post-revolution Iran, just ask some Shia Iranian brothers about Ayatollah Ridha Shirazi or Ayotallah Montazeri just to name a few.

That's not the Istikhaara that the Prophet, Peace Be Upon Him, and his companions practised!

Rather ironic how this 'Grand' Ayaatullaat sees people who call asking for an 'Istikhaara' on what to cook as ignorants! He doesn't see how much ignorance is involved in thinking that there's a link between what will happen to an individual according to what appears on the verses from the Qur'an.

I think it's pretty narrow to say "AlJazeera is promoting..."

It appears to me as if they are simply presenting an interesting story about an "online ministry"--something that's been covered on a number of occasions about Christian sects on Western TV.

Also, in the media generally, it depends on willingness to be interviewed and convenience.
