Bring u'r hikin boots, take a 5 mile trip up river, plop u'r gear down and tell me how u'r day was :) remember, every tom dick harry and jane has stopped where U 2 are. Yes they miss some, as U do, but travel the unbeaten path where others have not dared 2 go and things will probably be more "virgin" N positive, as in a yellow bottom pan.
B-Safe, take u'r time, not a contest to reach some unknown location... Larry
Just an FYI, I was interested in doing this myself and checked with the Forest Service first. Turns out that anything beyond simple panning is illegal in this area.
Up to a $500 fine and 6mos in jail.
I can't post the link, but google for "Prescott National Forest Prospecting".
I have a tool that creates very high vacuum underwater, much higher than any small dredge now being used to look for Placer Gold, I am looking to talk to someone with experience in this area. You can see the tool if you do a search for "Barton abrasive removal tool" where you will see it being used to vacuum fine solids (garnet and expended media) from water filled tanks. email if interested placergolddredge@yahoo.com
We all have to start somewhere, at least your wife is by your side (what a blessing). Each time out you will gain more experience and knowledge about how/where to find the big stuff. I can say, not may people will ever tell you WHERE just the HOW. As you know Gold is where you find it (off the beaten trail).
looking good as they 1in per foot on drop if there is a gpaa chapter around you join them most of the clubs are free and u can learn alot from other members
A helpful hint if I may . . . try to position the sluice box as level (side to side) as possible, about 1 inch of drop per foot (front to back) and try not to block the flow of water with yer bucket. Other than that, lookin good - I screen my material to 1/4 IN. or less before running thru my sluice, helps keep the bigger rocks from pilling up behind the riffles.
Keep at it and you will learn the "tricks" NICE VID. :)
Just leave the box, Im new at it as well and you should just leave the box alone. I can see the gold on the mat. You look good, keep going back and foruth. Cool
We were trying to find where to pan at Lynx creek but couldn't find it - we asked a local and he told us where to go, which was Rose Creek (next to Lynx Creek). We saw a lot of other people panning up and down the creek, so we just picked a spot at random and started panning. If you look at my other video ("part 2"), I show some gold we found. Thanks
Just a comment about your gloves, I am from Utah and the rivers here are quite cold year around also. If you have a Harbor Freight Store around go in and purchase a pair of " Blue shoulder length Oil-Resistant PVC Long Cuff Gloves" They are amazing they sell for around $ 8.00 and they are great, also you can go quite deep with out ever getting cold.

@briankirk1969 I highly doubt it, the cops used to sit on the side of the highway while people are prospecting in
Dewey.

A tip..
Look at the top side of the sluice in your video, notice its always more sand there?
It'd suggest the water flow isn't evenly spread throughout the sluice, or in other words, its getting less water flow there.
You'd prefer a similar flow all the way trough the sluice. :)
Watching how the sand and water behaves will tell you how good you've set up the sluice. Of course with more experience it gets better. :)
Good luck!

May I ask what led you to choose that particular spot? Possibly the variety of minerals? Luck? or a vein nearby?
I am about to pan soon and I need a better idea of what to look for compared to last year :)
