InMy humble Opinion Ian Paice is the only drummer who can touch Cozy Powell - or should it be Cozy Powell is the only drummer who could touch Ian Paice, for sure they're both greatly under rated and under valued for their power, technique and contribution to music. Yes as already stated what a great line-up!
I wish Glenn and David had stayed with them for ever. They were the best! I like the other stuff too, but not as much … Glenn and David are so monumental in their very different ways, and make a magic vocal pair, with David's grunt and Glenn's howling vibrato.
Funk O Rama ... during the break. That's not real Purple and that's why Ritchie bailed on this MkIII line up. They got too far away from the essence of what DP was all about.
He plays in the early morning breakfast shows for housewives between the weather forecast and health counselling. about the worst shows you can find on German TV
quite possibly the pinnacle of classic rock metalrock....veryy cool....love new stuff and was like where did this come from...they had something for sure.
I agree. But at the time Deep Purple reformed in 1984, market ruled, and the people wanted the Mk2 lineup. Anyway, Coverdale was earning much more money with Whitesnake.
@bessadale true that he was earning a lot with whitesnake.. they sold far more copies than purple could ever dream of..
but he was asked many times to reform deep purple.. but he said no.. so yes, maybe the market wanted it, but coverdale had the chance to turn it down many times before gillan was asked.
@leppardsnake in 1979 when Ian Paice joined Whitesnake, people thought that David Coverdale wanted to reform Deep Purple under the Whitesnake name. But as time went by and the 80s came, it became clear that people wanted Deep Purple MKII.
@leppardsnake the people bought the records, and I suppose that the MKII records were selling much more, so the businesspeople concluded that people wanted to see MKII live too.
Can barely hear Bolin. They edited him so much on this record. The long beach concerts were much better. I think it was called "on the wings on a Russian fox bat" or something like that. Those bootlegs are great mkIV material. I think it's being re released.
Love Child is the song I like the most from mkIV, its great on the record..great riff..but live performances wasnt mkIV especially good at, because hughes and bolin was full of heroin and all that belongs...but a great song!
Gotta get that VHS tape, still ain't out on DVD. And yeah, Coverdale does have that Jesus look here. Really like the over the top singing live of the line-up, so entertaining, they are sort of restrained on the studio versions.
i really love tommy bolin and deep purple mark4. i just dont like the over the top screaming and screeching from both coverdale and hughes. it spoilt the music. fucking awful to listen to.
Hughes gave the band a funky style which they didn't need. Having Hughes backing vocals on Coverdale was a mistake also since that reduced a lot the magic the main singer of a great band should have. And Coverdale didn't need backing vocals. He had a great voice. Lord's keyboard playing was too much extended in every aspect during that era and that wasn't the best if you call yourself a hard rock band.
This is simply amazing! Fantastic band! Have loved this song and all the other songs from this album since i heard it for the first time, over 30 years ago. Mr. Bolin R.I.P
Please see Ritchie Blackmore quote from GUITAR WORLD - FEBRUARY 1991
GW: What did you think of Tommy Bolin when he took your place in Deep Purple, following your '74 departure?

Didn't like Deep Purple Mark 4. Tommy Bolin was not a good guitar player. Probably cause he was Strung up on Heroine most of the time. MK2 was and always will be the best DP line-up BAR NONE.
Typical. People are so closed minded that way, I thought all the guitarists, singers and keyboardists in Deep Purple were good there's no way of saying which members were the best.
For people who bag (like those Malcome Dome types) on Deep Purple's post-Burn! stuff, get a life, Dudes!!! Like In Rock wasn't radical compared to the Rod Evans stuff. fdebeuk49er- BOTH SOLOS of TB's are ESSENTIAL. Used to have a LP of Tommy & Deep Purple called "Deep Purple's Last Concert in Japan". Also, DP's "Come Taste the Band" kicks ass as well!!!
R.I.P. Tommy Bolin I've listened tommy bolin's record solo, like savannah woman and he showed he was skillfull to play different things, too bad he were in drugs at that time with purple

fdebeuk49er- BOTH SOLOS of TB's are ESSENTIAL. Used to have a LP of Tommy & Deep Purple called "Deep Purple's Last Concert in Japan". Also, DP's "Come Taste the Band" kicks ass as well!!!

MK4 videos are brilliant - mostly for Ian Paice! His drumming on MK3 and Mk4 stuff, live especially, was quite something else.
