I think the crux is that science has no morality or will. Its direction is therefore down to who pays the piper and sadly that is big business, which has little moral compass. In fact, given the internal principle of abrogation, there is little point to reading the "peaceful" passages at all, when the Koran itself says that they are superceded by the later violent ones - enough for me anyway. That can lead to rationalizing any behavior in the name of God. I would say that the only thing that DOES matter is what you do or don't do.

After you come to saving faith in Christ ONLY THEN we perform good deeds and grow into the image of Christ out of love and grattitude for what He has done for us and the eternal life He has provided. EVERYTHING ELSE done outside of Christ or to try to earn our way into heaven, not having that relationship w the Son means NOTHING to GOD.

@eram64 The bible was not written over 1500 years. Most of the OT was written down around 500BCE from a variety of sources. It is a work of fiction created after the Babylonian exile to unify the Hebrews and give them a sense of unity. Of course it carries one general theme because it is self referential. The new testament is pure myth, fabricated to create a personality cult around Jesus and manufacture a messiah for the christian cult.

I think the crux is that science has no morality or will. Its direction is therefore down to who pays the piper and sadly that is big business, which has little moral compass. Our politicians are all bought and paid for by these same companies and the only gainsayers tend to be those driven by religious dogma rather than reason.

I think, though, that religious dogma is one of many factors in the corporate/political influence on science. Reason can be just as dangerous as religious dogma.. Since there is no 'pure' reason or objectivity (only situated knowledge) 'reason' is always situated within political / economic / cultural systems, reason often seeks to maintain those systems at any human cost.

In fact, given the internal principle of abrogation, there is little point to reading the "peaceful" passages at all, when the Koran itself says that they are superceded by the later violent ones - enough for me anyway. I also read many other books and i think you might be better capable of judging what you read "every day" if you compared other ideas with the Islamic ones that make you feel good.

I am not sure why you assume that atheist are not moral. Statistic shows that atheist are the most educated, the most peaceful, the less violent. There are less atheist in jails than any other group or religious people per capita. What is not moral is forced conversions, like the spread of Islam. Subjection of women, like in Islam, and calling people derogatory names such as Kafir, just because they do not obey to your laws. In short, you belong to the no morals more than I do.

Well if one is to follow your logic and take prohibition as a proof of morality. I think Islam should prohibits the beating of ones wive (hadith). Islam should also prohibit the slain of apostate (Quran). I also suggest Islam prohibits the treatment of woman as a second class entity (Hadith & Quran).
And last but not least, a prohibition on the persecution of atheists and people who have no problem going nude on beaches. Your God must be very frighten of his own naked creation!
