Why be careful, i have OI type 1 and have never been to careful. Yep broke a lot of my bones but living life to fullest. Been around the world, ride a bicycle, ride a longboard, jumped of cliffs, did everything i wanted to do. Now i'm recovering from a hip fracture but yeah thats the risk i am willing to take. @nym4life89 sorry to say but you don't grow out of it, in your 20's and 30's you maybe don't break that much but after 35, the risk of getting fractures increases.
I'm martin, 21 years old, lawyer student. i have OI, type 3 i had like 50 fractures when i was kid, mostly of them in my legs i had also 7 surgery's, i walked in 2001, but then, one of the metal bars, inside my left femur, get broken, and i don't walked anymore, i hate doctors since that day, i cryed alot for that, and i thinked on kill myself. and i guess, for so many X-Rays, my hormonal system is bad, doctors ruin my life, and i can't do anything about itnow, i'm on wheelchair, is unfair. >:-(
I think doctors are more interested in the science of OI because is is so rare, rather than the patients well being. I alsotoo had many unecessary x-rays as a child. My mom finally decided to put a stop to it. I have looked at some of her old calenders, and there are months after months when we went to the doctor almost daily.
another OI patient here. 86 breaks mostly to my legs. i am 27 now, and have a severe bow to my right tib/fib. walking with a limp since 2001 :o) due to get my leg straightened this year. wish me luck!
I was born with OI type1 and I have had over 20 broken bodes and then had 2 broken ribs and ACL resconstruction as a adult. This runs in my family My son, My Mom, My Little sister, My grandma, and 2 uncles and 3 cousins.
im 15 and i have about 60 breaks and 20 surgeries but i walk like an normal with normal bones i maybe swing from and back a little but thats disapears :D
i have type I....about 30 breaks including the skull and vertabrae, its ok though cuz it aint that big of a deal cuz with type I you tend to grow out of it as you get older
I'm an OIer also...type 3. I don't know how many times I've fractured, pretty sure it's been over 100, but never kept track. I live in Chicago, winter is the most horrible season! Even more so for people with OI. I seem to fracture my left collarbone & right arm the most, mainly because I'm right handed, so that arm is always moving. There are advantages to having OI, my favorite is less cost on clothing & shoes:) only if you're short lol.
Heey I have OI too. Type IV, I've only broken about 9 times, last of which was about 5 years ago. Though I got a spinal fusion surgery about 3 months ago and still recovering from it. Like the other Kevin said (my names Kevin too lol) nobody can tell I have OI as well.
Message me here if ya wanna talk on MSN/AIM or whatever.
nobody can tell i have it eather.except im in a wheelchair!im average hight i just have bowing on my arms & legs.i never break my arms though.i have the rarest and newest type.
wow as I sit here........I also have OI and I have over 5o breaks under my belt. But you would never know to see me, unless I was nude and you would see all of the scars all over my body. I have been trying to find someone with the same OI as I have. I go by the name kevinoi69 on Yahoo IM. Thank you for the move. Peace of mind Kevin
Yes I have pain a lot as well, especially in winter when it gets really cold. I've had between 70 and 100 breaks and fractures. Mostly are ribs, femurs, shoulders etc. But don't think it's just you, I'm sure lots of people experience it. It's hard to deal with sometimes too when it gets too much.
I have the OI also. I'm glad that your parents cared enough about you to help you out. My parents decided that doing drugs was more important then me going to the doc.'s, so I had to wait and be sneaked out of the house to go if it didn't start feeling better within a week...
I also have OI. I'm 14 and have broken 15 bones. I know what all this is like, I fell off a slide at my aunts house (we all knew I had the disease) but they were too stupid to do anything, I was in pain for 2 hours until my dad finally got a call from my cousin and cam to pick me up. He was p*****. I know the pain trust me!
I'v broken over like 30 breaks.probobly like 3 a year.anyway last year i was at my uncales house and his yard looks like this. R=rocks C=cement M=me RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRR M RRRRRRRRRRRRRRR CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC I FLIPED OVER FORWARD IN MY WHEELCHAIR! only broke my left leg by my kneecap though strange....
hey! its really great to hear another story from someone who has osteogenesis imperfecta.
I have this condition aswell and i know EXACTLY what you feel like. when i was at school i had broke my leg on two occasions (both femur) from kids just running through the corridors and bumping into me. it caused me to miss nearly a whole year of high school.
ive also broken my lower leg, shoulder two times, my arm and just as you said 'the odd finger or toe'
I have it.Its hard because im in middle school and Im about to flunk 7th grade cause I have a pressere fracture on right arm!Im in a wheelchair but I look average.I have type 5!
you...are awesome...i have OI too, and it's been kinda hard for me to find anyone else around that has a lesser type and is average height and such...i giggled at the "odd fingers and toes"...cause those stop counting as breaks after the first few dozen...rock on!
I liked seeing your mother narrating, because I hear in her voice the caring and hardship your family went through during your breaks. I feel your family is emotionally stronger now and I see that you are their magnet that binds the together. I too have (OI) and you check me out on Youtube.
