  • I prefer intelligence over ignorance, and the USA chose intelligence. Good for them!

  • Geronami, I guess I have to add just one final comment, since we now know the results of the election. Apparently, if your God does exist and really does control what goes on here, he apparently doesn't like Sarah Palin, John McCain, or the multitude of Christians who felt that this duo would best represent a Christian worldview in Washington. Or maybe, just maybe, your God doesn't exist or isn't anything like you think he is. So what will it be Geronami?

  • Finally, if a persons public profession of Christianity disqualified them from the Presidency, in Harris' eyes, then almost every President in our history would be deemed by Harris to be unqualified. This was not what Harris was saying. Harris was stating that Palin lacks the intellectual acumen to hold such responsibility, and her intellectual deficiencies stem from the fact that her views on Christianity are too literalistic, unlike Obama's, which are more moderate.

  • Concerning the previous post, Palin has been governor for Alaska for less than two years, and mayor of a town smaller than most neighborhoods in the city that I live in. This is hardly EXPERIENCE that is germane to running a country. Alaska has no international significance, like Illinois or New York. To say that Palin's positions in Alaska gives her relevant experience for the VP spot is like saying someone cleaning bedpans gives them experience to do neurosurgery.

  • Search Palin and Obama's qualifications on Wikipedia. Palin had to go through 4 colleges in order to get a mediocre degree in Communications/Journalism from a mediocre university, while Obama graduated from elite schools like Columbia University and Harvard Law School (with honors). He was President of the Harvard Law Review. Who better to uphold and execute the Constitution than a top Constitutional lawyer? Sarah Palin's governorship of an inconsequential state is immaterial.

  • There are a multitude of fallacious things that you have said in this video. One of your biggest falsehoods is that our founding fathers derived their inspiration for formulating our three branches of government on the basis of Judeo-Christian principles. This is utter nonsense. Our founding fathers based the structure of our government on the Roman Republic. The only type of government promoted in the Bible, in both Old and New Testaments, is a monarchy, and NOT a representative democracy.

  • You say that Sarah Palin's son is fighting for Sam Harris' freedom of speech, and you have the temerity to call him dumb for criticizing her because of this. Yet, you have not proven that the circumstances in Iraq would affect freedom over here. In fact no conservative has proven that what happens in Iraq will encroach on our freedoms over here. Furthermore, just in case you don't know, there are atheists, agnostics, and people of other religions fighting on behalf of the United States in Iraq.

  • You need to do an addendum to this video, concerning Palin's effect on John McCain's poll numbers. Yes, she did give McCain an initial boost, because she attracted more evangelicals to the McCain campaign, which was previously considered by evangelicals to be too liberal and secular for them. Yet, after she actual did her debate with Biden, and did two high profile interviews, she became a liability. Every poll now, shows that she has actually cost McCain immensely, due to her lack of knowledge.

  • Atheists are free to express themselves in the U.S., and criticize all religions, NOT due to those like Sarah Palin. Atheists have this freedom because the U.S., from its very formative documents, has done its best to keep religion a PRIVATE AFFAIR! If people like Pat Robertson, the late Jerry Falwell, and Sarah Palin, had the full powers of the American government, without the Establishment clause encumbering them; they would turn this place into an oppressive theocracy rivaling Saudi Arabia.

  • Harris us upset because Palin is a low IQ narrow-minded ignorant woman. An ignorant

woman like Palin happens to be a christian as well. The reason is that lower IQ and religious fundamentalism are positively correlated.

  • Dude, fuck you! "Regular" is not enough for me, either. I want intellectual superiors to run the country, not intellectual inferiors. Is that too difficult for you to understand? Who do you trust, Einstein or freshmen "women's study majors?"

  • Palin is a complete moron. The only thing that rivals her stupidity is her pathological need to lie...and lie...and lie. If she were a man, or an ugly fat woman, she'd be treated as the joke that she is, but she's a milf, so she gets a pass.

  • To listen to you one would think that the US Constitution was taken straight out of the Bible. You hardly need to be Christian to notice that people aren't perfect, for crying-out-loud. And Sam Harris does not object to the fact that Sarah Palin is CHRISTIAN (otherwise he'd object with equal vigour to Obama), he objects to the fact that she is a CREATIONIST and therefore an IGNORAMUS.

  • Nobodys taking freedom for granted. Harris is merely exercising that freedom. We all have that right religous or not...

  • "I want someone INSANELY smart to run it thanks."

It's hard to measure "smart" - I would go by someone's ability to manage a large govt like a Governor. For example - Bush: Gov of Texas, Clinton: Gov of Arkansas, Reagan: Gov of Calif, Carter: Gov of Georgia. Electing a VP is saying 4 more years of the last pres. This'll be the first time since JFK that we haven't elected a governor or vice-president.

I'm skeptical of the qualifications of both candidates.

  • I agree with you. Obama is an overrated media made clown, whilst McCain is a has-been Geriatric doddering fool ! The paucity of choices leaves me flabbergasted with dissapointment. Although, despite some extreme views, based on adequate evidence..Sarah Palin does seem to have better administration experience and accomplishments than an under-qualified & in-experienced Obama !

  • why would anyone want someone just like them to run the country?? I want someone INSANELY smart to run it thanks.

  • " I want someone INSANELY smart to run it thanks "

Well than that surely rules out Obama ( who may have the gift of the Gab ( Oration)) but beyond that is as dumb as a Toad ! Palin is better experienced in Administration and problem solving, a far cry from the low IQ, Affirmative Action incompetent, media over rated, leftist clown Obamee !

  • Althought I agree with a lot of what you said - it's completely incorrect to say that the govt was founded on "Christian values" - quite the opposite. The founders were influenced by a very blasphemous movement called "The Enlightenment" which said that reason was superior to church dogma. Franklin, Paine, Jefferson were NOT Christian. You will never find more secular holders of office than the first few presidents.

  • "Franklin, Paine, Jefferson were NOT Christian."

Yes they were Christians...some conspiracy theorists claim that they were Deists. However, if you read their quotes from the Library of Congress,Washington DC, some of their quotes are blatantly pro-Bible and pro-Christian. If they were REALLY Deists, they sure as hell had one heck of a Christian influence. Shocking as it seems, Jefferson's admiration for Jesus in his quotes seems even MORE Christian than the nutty and obnoxious GWB himself !

  • You have GOT to be kidding.

So did someone other than Thomas Paine write "The Age of Reason" where he says:

"What is it the New Testament teaches us? To believe that the Almighty committed debauchery with a woman...; and the belief of this debauchery is called faith."

Did someone OTHER than Thomas Jefferson write "The Jefferson Bible" where Jesus doesn't rise from the dead?

Did someone else write Ben Franklin's autobiograhy where he dismisses most Christian concepts?

  • In Benjamin Franklin's 1749 plan of education for public schools in Pennsylvania, he insisted that schools teach "the excellency of the Christian religion above all others, ancient or modern."

In 1787 when Franklin helped found Benjamin Franklin University, it was dedicated as "a nursery of religion and learning, built on Christ, the Cornerstone."

Reference : Library Of Congress, Washington DC.

Strange, so either Ben Franklin & Jefferson were Christians or thery were Schizoids ?

  • Thomas Jefferson:

Of all the systems of morality, ancient or modern which have come under my observation, none appears to me so pure as that of Jesus.

"I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus."

Source: Merrill . D. Peterson, Jefferson Writings (New York: Literary Classics of the United States, Inc., 1984), Vol. IV, p. 289. From Jeffersons Notes on the State of Virginia, Query XVIII, 1781.

BTW, I'm Jewish, so don't shoot the messenger !

  • I may settle with your views on Thomas Paine however. I did my research & readings...there is sufficient evidence to support the view that he may have been inclined to religion as opposed to cardinal Athiesm, but by no means did he mention being inclined to Judeo-Christian beliefs !

On the other hand, there is sufficient proof to show that ben Franklin, Jefferson and most Founding Fathers especially John Adams to be Christians ( even if some of them choose to alter their Theological dictum)

  • Thomas Jefferson: He had to deal with and for many years serve Christians as a politician. He would never say he was not a Christian.

Jefferson did NOT believe in the miracles or godhood or son of godhood or even the resurrection of Jesus but thought Jesus was a good man. IOW - he believed less in Jesus than a Muslim. He called the Christian perspective of Jesus - priestcraft.

  • Thomas Paine was as close to atheism as you can get before Darwin. He probably WAS an atheist but would've been even MORE persecuted than he already was if he admitted it.

    Paine's "Age of Reason"

"All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit."

  • There is no sunstantial evidence to prove that Jefferson was a Deist. Infact, if he was such a man of honor...he would'nt have showered praises about his Christian mantra. I believe he was a Christian with some radically different theologtical view points. But a Christian none-the-less !

Thomas Paine however was NO Christian, and I agree with you on that one !

  • Thomas Jefferson publicly praised Jesus and Christianity because that's what people wanted to hear. He praised Jesus as a man yet openly dismissed his miracles, godhood and resurrection. You can't be a Christian AND dismiss Jesus' resurrection.

For example: You praise Christians and Christianity. You might also praise Jesus' works but you don't believe he was a son of God or resurrected. What if someone in the future said "He must've been a Christian, look at what he wrote."

  • "Thomas Jefferson publicly praised Jesus and Christianity because that's what people wanted to .....You can't be a Christian AND dismiss Jesus' resurrection."

As I said before, he may have been a Christian with radically outlandish views. Besides, there is NO hard evidence to prove that he was a Deist ! I guess, the tug of war between hardcore Deists & the Christian Right seem to be based on Jeff's true identity. My bet goes on the Christian side, based on the evidence we have ! Simple.

  • You can't be a Christian and deny that Jesus is the Son of God or was resurrected. That's like saying you're a Muslim who believes that Mohammed was a good man but not a prophet. That really is the most basic tenet of Christianity - Muslims believe more about Jesus than Thomas Jefferson did.

  • Yeah, but Jefferson was NOT a Deist either. So that leaves all of us with the BIG question : WTF did Jeffy believe in ????

    HAHAHA.

  • As a poor american who would fight in Iraq, I am skeptical of a christian leading the US. There seems to be a strong inverse correlation between religious belief and wise decisions made in the Whitehouse.

  • Abe Lincoln and JFK were devout Christians ( the latter being a devout Irish American Catholic )....The Founding Father of America's Financial Wall Street Banking business - Morgan Chase ( i.e. J Pierpoint Morgan) was a DEVOUT Church going Episcopolan Christian...the list of Christian geniuses is endless. Does that mean that these great legends made bad decisions ? Infact, J P Morgan ( devout Episcopalan Christian) saved the US economy from going bankrupt NOT once but Thrice !

  • A god who can lead a single christian to save the US economy 3 times should also be able to keep divorce and incarceration rates in a christian country like the US at least as low as the rates in an atheist country like Japan.

I live in Japan. They deny god here, yet I can lose my wallet anywhere and have it returned despite the lack of a mythical deterrent such as hell. And the divorce rate among evangelicals is much higher than for non-believers. No evidence of god's power there.

  • Perhaps the Americans can thank their stars or "God" that they don't have half the supersonic suicide rates of Japan. Or that they did'nt get their butts kicked in WW2 as bad as Japan.

OOOhh..and btw, I thought Japan / Nippon was a Shinto Buddhist dominated nation. Are you sure you live in Japan or is it an Athiest North Korea ?

  • Japan for it's smaller size and popln. seems to be riddled with many of it's social problems as well :

Gakyuu Houkai (Out of control classrooms in secondary and elementary schools) , Incivility in Public Places

(Train manners, mobile phone manners, etc)

    Ijime (school bullying); Juvenile Crime

Abuse, Domestic Violence;Stalking, Assault, Rape; Suicide Pacts; Murder(Thrill killings, stalking victims, classmates etc);Futoko" ("school refusal"), Parasite adults who burden parents.

  • So what do you think the incarceration rates for Japan are compared to the US considering all the "social problems" you've mentioned.

This data will tell you just how powerful the christian god is.

After you realize the answer, you can either convert to either the real god of Buddhism (just a nominal identity here), or the intellectual honesty of atheism. You're choice.

But don't defend an ineffectual god. It would be dishonest and a self-deception.

  • And just to be fair, go ahead and add the the japanese suicides to the number of incarcerated in japan before you compare it to the per capita rate.

  • One more way to detect the power of god is to examine the coherency of the arguments of persons who claim they possess the spirit of that god. Here's one. "Japan got their asses kicked by the US in WW2, so the god of the US is real." -> "(a) got their asses kicked by (b) in (c), so the god of (b) is real." How else might we instantiate this argument? It is clearly incoherent. The spirit of the god of this person is clearly not leading them into truth, hence that god does not exist.

  • Dear phistilwell,

A). I am NOT a Christian. I'm Jewish American with a fervent admiration for Christianity. So, converting into a Buddhist is outta the question. besides, "The real god of Buddhism" ??? LOL...I bet Christians have a MORE REAL GOd than a starving Indian fakir with a funny hairdo !

B). If Japan is so great, why can't it ever surpass the Christian west ( USA, Ger) in terms of Scientific & Technological powress. Most of what Japan has today, was invented in the Xtian West !

  • For its size and population, despite being a monoracial nation ( all this means less natural risk factors than a overpoulated, large diverse, multi-racial nation like the USA0. Japan or Nippon does have it's huge share of complex myriad social problems.

USA treats it's blacks much better than how the Japanese treat the aborginals of Hokkaido and Northern Honshu !

I've been to Japan and can Speak fluent Japanese too genius !

    私は日本人の愚か者を余りに話してもいい!

  • I appears then that you have no god that can be non-existent, only your ability to present coherent arguments. -> "(a) got their asses kicked by (b) in (c), so the god of (b) is real."

Here's another fallacy you've introduced: (a) is better at (t) than (j). (a) has the quality of (c). Therefore (c) is the reason why (a) is better at (t) than (j).

    Try this: (a)=philstilwell / (x)=argumentation / (j)=mansequotte / (c)=bald

Now please address the incarceration question.

  • ...oops. Change "(x)=" to "(t)=".

  • Why don't you ask your "real god of Buddhism" to enlighten you about that "incarceration" ?

And, if your bald head churns out more senseless gibberish...I suggest you could use a good ol' American Shampoo to get rid of your Dandruff problems, although I still doubt, it would cure your imbecility ! For that, you might need Yodha, Buddha or Dr. Phil !

  • Sorry. I thought I was dealing with a post-adolescent mind. Moving on.

  • My apologies to you too...I was under the impression that I was dealing with a neurotic imbecile with a delusion of grandiosity, escaped from the Uneai Mental Hospital, Hokkaido, Japan ! Moving on.

  • U Stupid f**k Sarah Palin son is going to iraq to kill ur uncle, and tell people God told him to do it..dipshit..BO08

  • Applauding, Beautifully stated.
