Caroline is the daughter of one of the Aperture Sinence workers, since one of the projects of "take your daughter to work" says "by chelle", BUT she is NOT Cave Johnsons daughter because he died in late 80s and take your daughter to work was in 1998, and by that time caroline was already inside glados. My theory: Her parents died in the hands of glados, that's the only one that makes sense

@shaixsonic firstly, most of what GLaDOS says is sarcastic or a lie. that being said, it is true that Chell's mother is in the facility because GLaDOS is Caroline and Caroline is Chell's mother. Proof: in the portrait at the end of the video, look at it yourself. On the left side in the background you can see a little girl. Then, in the potato project room look at the giant mutant one. On the bottom corner it says "By Chell." 1 + 1 = GLaDOS is Chell's mom.

She also defends Chell when Wheatley claims Chell is adopted. She says that there is nothing wrong with being adopted so perhaps GLaDOS adopted Chell
