I use to be a loyal customer of Breyers. I would buy a carton of Natural Vanilla every time I went grocery shopping. But as soon as that new company took over I noticed that the ice cream didn't taste the same anymore. It was horrible! I don't understand why they decided to change it. If money was the main issue, then I'd gladly pay an extra 50 cent if that what it takes to make them go back to the original recipe. sociallyurban c oom.
Totaly agree. I used to love Breyer's as a kid, but now that I can buy it on my own, I choose not to, since unilever took over and made it taste like crap.
lol i had to watch this vid for my college writing class. i highly doubt that breyers icecream doesnt have any of those ingredients in them, or something similar...
The commercial ends with "Locust beans?!", sounding (to my ears) as if that was one of the most disgusting sounding ingredients of all. But both locust bean gum and tara gum are used by many food companies as "thickening agents".
The "addition" of Tara gum totally ruined what was the best ice cream on the planet. The company claims they added it so that it would store better for longer periods of time. But what's the use of lasting longer if it sucks?
Prior to Breyer's becoming a big corp in the mid 60's the vanilla was the most unbelievably delicious thing on earth. It has never been the same since. What people think is good vanilla tastes like frozen milk flavored cool whip. Garbage.
The addition of "natural tara gum" has totally ruined its clean, crisp, light, refreshing competitive edge. Instead of breaking cleanly, now it comes out in a stretchy, gummy, clinging way that is gross. And it yellows like it never did when in the freezer- just the opposite effect of claimed "product preservation"
They try to sell this new "teture" as "creamy" - those who know quality are not fooled. Ive stopped buying since the addition of tara gum, and i used to be a regular customer
Some of us dont WANT "dense, buttermilk, thick, artery clogging ice cream. Breyers was always about 1/2 the fat, without being artificial- more like an ice milk- It fractured cleanly, and tasted pure. It has a very delicate, ice crystally component- that was what people LOVED (not to be mistaken with obviously melted/refrozen huge crystals/texture change.- which i NEVER saw here in CT buying it for 30 years)
I just sent Breyers a complaint. It tastes terrible. I will not purchase it again. It's such a shame, because it used to be far and away my favorite brand.
I absolutely agree. My favorite was butter pecan. I new something was different then I learned about the tara gum. Thank Unilever for ruining a great American brand. Don't you love the new trapezoidal 48oz carton too.
Every ice cream company is scamming us now, they all use these trapezoidal cartons now. I am only 28 yrs old and i remember as a kid it was the half gallon, and breyers actually came in round cylinder for a while. Everything is just getting crappier and crappier. Everything is getting smaller, yet cost more money. It's the jews fault!
Also now you see advertised "double churned", or "creamy". What this really means is more voids and less product. I wish there was a way to compare the unit density of old ice cream vs the crap they sell now. Classic corporatism, were going to screw you and you're going to like it.
Breyers was bought out by Unilever, a Dutch conglomerate. They started putting all the crap in their ice cream that people had previously bought Breyers to avoid.
I will never buy Breyers again until they stop putting gum in it.
You mean you don't like Xanthan gum, tara gum, locust bean gum, guar gum, cellulose gum, and our favorite ingredient ever, carrageenan? Good to know there's someone else out there. I miss old-fashioned ice cream.
i thought breyers are horse models

I remember this ad from the 80s. I did a search hoping to find it. It was hilarious! It still is. Thanks for posting.

You are soooo right. The French Vanilla used to be so delicious - they used to be the best ice cream on the market. RIP Breyer's. :(
