Ha! But then again, this is like the last season. Their own Enterprise must have been blown up a dozen times, taken over by cat gods, and all sorts of shit. Blowing up another Enterprise was probably a drop in the bucket by that point.
At the time i saw this in TV (i was 13 i think) this was really, really creepy...but today that beard comment just makes me laugh 2 bad.
Sadly even ST (at least TNG) lost much of its power (cant find a better word) whilst growing up,but maaan...it had it so in it at that time.We desperately need a more mature approach to scifi from film producers, but dont panic,it hasnt got to be so deep that only philosphysts and univ.professors can relate to it...i can be done right,as seen in_some_episodes...
@NightFlash24 I'm sure the original series was the shit in its day too. We need a new version that doesn't suck. Maybe Star Trek has just had its time.
@mrjjking77 I liked Voyager and Enterprise personally, and thought STXI was a nice refresher for the new audiences. Unfortunately in 30 years from now, a lot of the original trekkies will be dead and all that remains is my generation (15 yrs old). Not really up to the old generations anymore...
That is indeed an awful alternative reality. I mean, what's up with that giant billboard with basic diagrams in the background? Who is that helping? Terrifying indeed.
@dlausactor6373 Those paper-can things? Sorry, those things might have 'Universe' level capabilities, but I don't see how anyone can take them seriously.
If I might suggest an enemy that would be worse I'd like to suggest Stargate's replicators. They'd leave the useless organisms to starve whereas the borg would probably assimilate them and the daleks exterminate them; the replicators would just leave species to dwindle into extinction from lack of resources. Just seems worse.
@Onifos Dude, you have GOT to be kidding. The Daleks are one of the most vicious species in Sci-Fi HISTORY. For one thing, every other alien race you mentioned has just TRIED to conquer the galaxy; the Daleks have DONE it dozens of times, across time and space. Add to that the fact that they have advanced time travel technology, and fought a war with the most advanced race in the universe (the Time Lords) that was so devastating that they actually used time itself as a weapon.....yeah.
@creamyapanties The Daleks are powerful, granted. They are hatefilled spiteful jerkasses, granted. They've had a bit more success and lasted a long time for fantasy TV villains, granted.
However the thing I was debating was that the Daleks, while jackasses, would just exterminate humanity. There are faiths worse than death. One thing I can think of is being kept alive under constant threat so that the replicators can use you to keep adapting themselves to new technologies.
@creamyapanties Furthermore they would take all the resources from any societies not advanced enough to be the replicator's 'labratory rats' and let them starve without a second thought.
@enterprise160 Of course. The Borg are nothing compared to the Q. Remember that the Borg are physical beings. The Q are bored omnipotents with the power to reshape reality.
@Ruach Sad but true. It is the penultimate display of a communist utopian fantasy. Though in truth I think it would be more like the Evil Trek that pops up from time to time.
[penultimate display of a communist utopian fantasy]
I think that's a gross over-simplification. It is a utopian fantasy, however, it is more predicated on the empowering and freeing abilities of knowledge and technology.
Material accumulation has been rendered moot, not due to political or social reform, but because technology has progressed sufficiently to provide for every citizen's material needs.
@Dream0Asylum But you forget that mankind is by nature evil and I doubt that the advent of technology will get us past that without a guide such as the Bible or the Constitution to keep us in check. Star treck shows a society with much power, and yet power corrupts.
@supressorgrid Look around and you will see, there is much more cooperation between people than violence. I think it's more about society and force by hierarchy, that makes mankind look like the devil himself. But we will overcome this shit.
@supressorgrid Your wrong mankind is not by our nature evil we are however by our nature violent most people are not evil and the bible is a horrible guide to live by and i fear the day the bible is use to keep us in check.
...why not help them, bring them aboard, come up with a way to keep them in the better universe, and THEN send Warf back? oh no, screw that BLOW THINGS UP FOR NO REASON.
I once saw this screensaver that referenced this scene: lots of Enterprises showing up on screen, and the viewscreen switching to several different ones. One even had the bridge crew performing as a brass band.
@racookster Wasn't about slavery huh? Don't bet on it. South Carolina's official declaration for secession, for instance, explicitly gives the preservation of slavery as the reason for secession.
Too bad Starfleet couldn't travel into their universe and help them. Then again, they wouldn't be a match against a Borg armada. Unless, they went back at a later time with Voyager's transphasic torpedoes and armour.
"we won't go back, you don't know what is it like in our universe, the bankers have control over everything, our own nation is going bankrupt from pointless wars and evil politicians, we have a major depression that is going to be on our hands and millions of jobs are lost, you got to help us!!!"
"we won't go back, you don't know what is it like in our universe, we have a major recession on our hands and millions of jobs are lost, you got to help us!!!"
Star Trek Series 6 Will be Amazing. Using the new technologies for special effects and the Fresh and still Raw Source material for the writers to work upon which was presented by the first 5 Star Trek Series, the Next Trek Series will be a Huge Money Maker and a Mind Blower. I wonder what the USS Enterprise' NCC-1701-H will be like.......................................
@CancerLicker What are you talking about? Most people agree that ADMIRAL Janeway is one of the best characters ever. Its the captain that people don't like.
I like how any other time a ship blows up anything close to it goes with it but becasue they have 300k Enterprises around this one just goes poof with no issue
@GamingGuy010 Mirror Universe Enterprise: Yeah! Serves the idiots who fired on the shuttle right for trying to keep us from going home! Heil the Empire!!
@CaptainRon2341 I'm sorry to tell this to you, but only one fissure like that would bring infinite Enterprises from infinite parallel universes. What means: in a infinite number of parallel universes, Wesley would be captain.
imagine if all the enterprises went to the borg universe and killed them all... but when they came back to there universes everyone is wondering WTF happened to you enterprise...
Enterprise:... nothing we just uhh had a party with a couple of friends and uhh things got a bit explody
@Psiros2161 Since the Bajorans are a major power in that universe that are hostile, chances are that they'd think that the Federation was planning to invade Bajor and they'd declare a holy war on the Federation or something......
notice how that enterprise when that enterprise blows up it just puffs in a smal flame , where as every other time a warp core breach is usually a bit more explosive
Worst parallel was on Enterprise. Because when humans rule the galaxy, all the women are dressed like a 13 year old boy's fantasy, with the brain of one. Any parallel where Riker is suffering is good in my book :p
A Star Trek Borg series would make a good series. No Federation, Romulans are gone, Kingons are scattered. Janeway's dead and just a very few federation ships left. Also the Borg would need to be impersonal, no lame queen that loses her battles to us at every turn. Such potential.
@MrMichael1701 Agree. Even if it wouldn't be completely cannon. Janeway/Picard destroyed most of the collective. It would (in my opinion) much better than the new star trek movies where vulcan gets blown up
Yes a bit of a crappy explosion....but what I was hoping to see all those years ago when I watched this ep was the TNG Enterprise from the Mirror Universe.I was hoping an evil Picard was going to pop up on the screen! It wasn't until later when I saw DS9 do the Mirror Universe did I find out that at that time the Terran Empire had fallen.
@jkarani Second part is true—technical stuff (i.e., technobabble) isn't really what ST is about or where it excels. Have to say again, though, that the shields *were* up.
@MaoistRebelNews2 If Wesley had been in command during the events of The Best of Both Worlds it would explain why the Borg had triumphed and "were everywhere." :-)
Riker uses a good old method: Primates used their beard for camouflage! Riker uses it to hide from the borg... He just learned that from the episode where he became a Neanderthal man.
Half the fun of this episode was.getting to see Troi in like 4 or 5 different outfits. It's also a testament to her character how she seamlessly moved from Worf's good friend to sisterly figure to wife to New girlfriend all in one episode. Too bad the writers never really figured out how to utilize her, Marina is as talented as she (still) is gorgeous IMO.
I would love an expoundment on how this parallel world (Lt Crusher verse) and the dire parallel world (Crazy Riker verse) come to be.
that was so fucked up Riker...

But it is a universe where crazy people are everywhere :D

A Star Trek Borg series would make a good series. No Federation, Romulans are gone, Kingons are scattered. Janeway's dead and just a very few federation ships left. Also the Borg would need to be impersonal, no lame queen that loses her battles to us at every turn. Such potential.

@MrMichael1701 Agree. Even if it wouldn't be completely cannon. Janeway/Picard destroyed most of the collective. It would (in my opinion) much better than the new star trek movies where vulcan gets blown up

hahahah..that ship is blow but they said that ship is heavy damaged..

@jkarani lol
To be fair, it was aimed at one of the saucer section's phaser arrays. Shouldn't have blown the ship to hell.

Lame explosion is lame.

The real mind fuck would have been Wesley as captain
MaoistRebelNews2 4 months ago
@MaoistRebelNews2 If Wesley had been in command during the events of The Best of Both Worlds it would explain why the Borg had triumphed and "were everywhere." :-)

Kind of a small explosion compared to the way the enterprise usually get's destroyed. Wheres the huge shockwave?

Riker uses a good old method: Primates used their beard for camouflage! Riker uses it to hide from the borg... He just learned that from the episode where he became a Neanderthal man.

Half the fun of this episode was.getting to see Troi in like 4 or 5 different outfits. It's also a testament to her character how she seamlessly moved from Worf's good friend to sisterly figure to wife to New girlfriend all in one episode. Too bad the writers never really figured out how to utilize her, Marina is as talented as she (still) is gorgeous IMO.
I would love an expoundment on how this parallel world (Lt Crusher verse) and the dire parallel world (Crazy Riker verse) come to be.

loved that episode.

I love Trek but even explosions from Smaller Warp Cores are meant to be massive, but here that ship seems to implode??? Convenient.
ShasLaMontyr 5 months ago
@ShasLaMontyr I think it was a controlled detonation. There's never been a case of a warp core collapsing due to fire.
