I am interested in joining the sca however i must wonder when you die, what happens, i mean theres no way you could lay down in that crowd without getting trampled and secondly how long do these go on because it seems like it could take days?

@EricVanceSS You learn how to protect yourself while on the ground. Also you can just stand up when clear and walk off "dead". Some wars are over a week long. But the battles have many holds for safety. Every few minutes at times. Its much safer than it looks. Let me know who I can help and I can get you in touch with folks in your area.

they just crouch, i think you die when you fall over or get hit.

You "die" when you, the person being hit, decides it was a suitably "fatal" blow to the body or head. Arm and leg hits merely incapacitate that limb. It's all based on the honor system with no referees (just marshals for safety). In many big battles they often allow a "resurrection point" where the dead can go to come back to life and continue fighting. They wear very serious metal (and some plastic) armor and they really beat the shit out of each other. It's full contact.

Google "Society for Creative Anachronism". The main website can direct you to local groups and other information. You don't have to pay for an official membership to participate, though most people eventually do. And there are LOTS of ways to participate! The heavy armored combat you see here is the most visible activity. But people have various interests, including: fencing, costuming, cooking, woodworking, tent construction, brewing/vinting, calligraphy, music, dance, embroidery, etc.

which country are you from. Pennsic is part of SCA which is a world wide thing. Pennsic itself is on the eastern coast of the U.S. but im sure they have similar things in other countries

Nah football players train in their armor all the time. If you had reasonably fit guys who are into this stuff, they'd wreck all the nerds there. Last time I heard, SCA doesn't require hours upon hours of physical training every day.

You wont see any wimps there. Sca leagal armour is harder to manuver in than footbol PADS. It is bad ass stuff. Fight for your self then talk to me. And the nerds do get ripped up. XD

The SCA is in Europe as well. That's the Kingdom of Drakenwald. Go to SCA"dot"ORG and from there you can find your local or at least nearest group.
