  • Hi Karen

    We are communicating via youtube.

I zumba-ed today and funny thing is the steroids make my aches and pains go away, so it feels like dancing with a new body. But the steroids are so bad for you. They destroy your body. They say lymphoma can be a side effect of steroids so I sometimes wonder if the treatment for my lung disease caused my cancer.

Read up all you can because sometimes the doctors are not on top of things

  • This is great information and I agree. I am currently in wk 7 of my chemotheraphy treatments and I rarely suffer with fatigue or many of the common side-effects. I am a licensed fitness instructor and I do aerobic exercise 5 times a week and strength training 2-3 times a week.

    Hi Karen

I zumba-ed my way all the way through chemo. The dancing kept my spirits up, too.

Do you do neulasta also? That was what really killed me each treatment. But my reaction was less severe with each treatment.

Thanks for your comments. Wishing you ease and success with your treatment.

    Joanie

  • @Bumperdog Thanks Joanie, that is good to know. I teach Zumba 5 times a week and I love it. You are exactly right it is great therapy for the spirit and soul! My Zumba clients are so supportive since I first found out I had breast cancer. They have been right there for me and they even attend my chemo treatments!

Currently, I taking Taxol. My Oncologist said she only uses Neulasta if necessary. I did consult with an Oncologist who uses it as standard treatment.

  • @KarenFranklinZumba It is just one drug, rituxin. They give me decadon with it. I can't sleep because of the decadron. It affects me like mega speed. I hate it. But I don't lose my hair this time around.

I had stage one breast cancer in '97. Only radiation. It was pretty easy. Then I got a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis in 2006 and then stage 4 lymphoma last year. What gives with that? I was a professional dancer. No smoking no drinking.

  • @Bumperdog

Wow, I admire your strength and courage. What a long battle. I will inquire about Boniva and I am hoping my strength training will be a plus as well. Are we communicating via email or comments on the video. I don't have a clue because I am not very familiar with YouTube.

  • @Bumperdog I was wondering if you experienced heartburn/acid reflux? Did you take Taxol and Decadron (steroid) . Heartburn is a common side effect.

  • I had the worst heartburn. I would eat so much yogurt and bread trying to make it go away. I thought it would burn right through my chest.

I had 4 months of chemo , a combination of 6 drugs every three weeks. Now I am on a program of preventative chemo once a week for a month, every 6 months for two years.

  • @Bumperdog

You are a fabulous dancer by the way!

  • @KarenFranklinZumba

One theory (from my lung doctor) The breast cancer radiation caused the lung disease. The steroids I was on for three years for my lungs may have caused the lymphoma and they definitely caused my osteoporosis.

The moral of all that is be proactive and check what side effects accompany the drugs and treatments. Ask to be put on Boneva, etc if you are on steroids any length of time.
