As others have pointed out the "On The Buses" Locations are not as you have indicated. The films were made and filmed in the Elstree Film studios, the sound stages where they were filmed have since been demolished and they were located where the existing Tescos supermarket is now located (adjacent to the Big Brother House). You've incorrectly stated they were filmed in what is now the BBC Elstree Studios. The Laundrette wasn't in the High St either, it's in Manor Way.
Thank you for this short film on locations & information. But could you please include some more street names please. Also, do you per chance have or know where I could get information on other film & TV locations in & around London?
The Launderette in the film is actually in Manor Way (not near it) and is still used as a Launderette to this day. I have lived in Borehamwood all my life and still live just round the corner from Manor Way shops.
@TheVintageKItten , Many thanks for this, I have some of Doris Hare's scripts (who was a relation to me) and on some of them they have the filming locations, but to be fair she did say she wasn't sure about the street I put in here, so you are probably right. Thanks again :-)
You've got the wrong studio pic for On the Buses. It wasn't shot at the BBC Elstree site, it was shot at the studio on Shendley Road. For the record, Tescos now occupies the former part of the studio where On the Buses was shot.
Imagine you're living in Stans house or turnaround Betty's and you see your house come on the telly. Good video mate. I actually went in BBC Elstree back in 1991 to an open day. They also filmed the titles to Gerry Anderson's UFO in there. Where Strakers car pulls up outside the studio was in fact ATV London Studios but is now BBC.
gr8 stuff , in holiday on the buses there were a few scenes of them driving thru rhyl and rhuddlan , i personally knew alex munro ( of the grand theatre llandudno ) who appeared in the film as the scot wearing a berry in the nurses waiting room
Wow.... thats brilliant! Rhuddlan by pass and Dyserth falls was used on the mistery tour. My brother-in-law was in it as a child. Doris Hare was his (Real) grandmother. So he was lucky!
