While it looks neat and pretty...I've never even came CLOSE to pulling this off and I'm a flexible person. Granted, maybe I'm just not skilled, but the fact is, if you're caught THAT deep in an omoplata, the guy has to be retarded to let you tripod up that much, if at all.
You'd probably end up snapping your own shoulder trying it in a full-out roll or tournament. Maybe it does work and I'm just terrible but...I'm gonna go ahead and say no to this one.
for the armbar finish. not gonna happen. well at least with a guy who knows how to do the omoplata right.
on the second variation
(the guy doing the omoplata) the hands are wrong. left hand should be on the hip of the opponent and the right holding on the the opponents trapped arm.
I appreciate that you are looking for innovative ways to counter. I had a student try that on me and I finished him with a kneebar on the leg he stuck through. we worked the counter for a litlle while and just couldnt make it work correctly. Maybe we were doing something wrong. Again, I thank you for looking for new ways to counter.
yeah ive tried this many times notice the space between the guy and him during the omoplata and if someone is really reaching around you cant get your hips up
The concept of using your legs to help free a trapped limb is solid grappling but the transition between the two positions is sloppy. Higher level JJ playas and beginners with good hips can apply these escapes.
I dont see the armbar portion ever working with that leg in the way - no way your going to keep a hold of that arm. and the portion where the leg comes through for the break - you use your trapped arm how>? good ideas tho.
nice. but i felt that it would be difficult to use ur trapped arm to help ur foot through.
i mean if you could use it like that then ur alredy out of the submission. it seems it would be difficult if ur opponent was pushing the submission. thanks.
Pretty sick move but this kind of move is very much reserved for people who know their shit on the ground. Not something anyone should attempt but still an awesome move, very good technique. Nice post XJitsu
The guy demonstrating is Elliott Bayev, based in Toronto, Canada... a purple belt and co-founder/instructor at kimonogirl... And I will agree that he is pretty darn flexible, that's for sure.. you should try rolling with him! LOL ~ Maybe I can get him to jump in here and comment on the successful execution of the NoNo Plata...
I gave it a shot and it is very unrealistic at that angle the guy on bottom does not have the angle to bring his foot in unless he postures up the guy on top if good will never fall back when u posture up plus the man applying the umoplata has the leverage the man on bottom will hurt his shoulder trying to bring the foot in if your strong enough to posture up you will have the escape it might work on a white belt but when the guys applyes the umoplata right it is hard
thats what I noticed watching too. A proper omoplata you hip would be so close to his I dont think it would be possible to get your leg in. even harder when the guy is grabbing around your backto hold you down.
Very, very impressed with that move ...where are you guys based? Im from Sydney Australia ....i was just doin the Omo Plata yesterday ...what a co incidence ..i think not!
awesome, I didn't think there was a counter to omo plata. Thanks for the insight, although I'll probably have to lose a few lbs to implement it. Thanks again
This shit works!!! on my little brother. hes 13.

that alone is a big factor.
although nice creativity.

yea i totally agree, it's a genious technique but there is just way too much space that a smart wrestler wouldn't leave on an omoplata

Let me see it in competition. I don't see this working on anyone. Not even most white belts.

usually they have a hold of something like the leg or body, that way there is no space
