I've got a simpler way to make the same hair shape. :) Just use the faces according to desired shape from the head mesh. Duplicate it. Then Extrude for emphasis. CTRL + L to select linked vertices then Separate by selection. Modify it then. :) Piece of cake.
you use a plane instead of a cube and shape it over the head the way you want the hair to look, then add a solidify modifier and change the thickness until it goes all the way into the head so it looks joint to the head
Is there a difference in 2.58 as far as using the sculpt tools? You comment that you can't use them, but I've certainly been able to in similar circumstances.
Both while modeling, and when creating shape keys, I go into sculpt to use grab and smooth when needed. No multi-res modifier, just subsurf. Sure seems to work for me.
@FinnieJr aw sweet! yeah the version of blender i was working in for this was 2.57, i guess they fixed it back. thanks for saying something, i would've never known :D
@ward7299 Hey, good to share back some help! I was just using it earlier today to tweak a very simple base mesh shape.
I'm still happy I tried adding shape keys to a character with an armature on a whim (I could have sworn that wasn't possible before) and it worked. I guess you have to run through all the functions each new version to see what's in and what's out, but there would be a new version by then.
@ward7299 heey i like your JB series ( i watched all of the JB2)... Can u help me promoting my game development chanel? @arcticflamegames :) Thank you... Keep on doing vids! :)
@touchsmart0 /watch?v=9XoTZtV8QxA this video should help. it helped me when i first got my macbook pro i went crazy looking for different ways to work with it, so i found this video. hope it helps
i literally stopped working on my model for a month because i was demoralised as i couldnt find any decent good ways to model hair, but now im back on the horse xD thank you very very much :]
@xecoq the DVD/Digital download version will be a little bigger, exported at 1024 x 576. Not QUITE HD, but pretty close, and should fit the monitors of all those still using 1024x768 resolution :)
oh, my, god. you have NO idea how long i have been looking for a decent hair tutorial. thank you haha, ive seen alot of box model hair meshes and plane meshes but none of them were very decent.
hey how can join the head with the hair? i need only one object...

I actually developed a method myself for creating polygon hair. It produced some good results so far. I'll post one on my channel soon.

Great job, i was wondering why dont you use the hair plugin?
childair 7 months ago
@childair i think its because this is more "cartoony" and the particle hair would look very cartoony. not sure though
SolarKills 7 months ago
@childair i used particle hair in the first two JB's, this one i figured i'd use a mesh model :)
