It clearly states that the Anishinabek had to migrate to the west when the whites showed up, because if they didn't they would be destroyed. Our ancestors took that prophesy very seriously. They not only migrated westward, they also migrated southward and to the north.
Our ancesters (Chippewa) were living near the St Larence seway and we got the news first, so we started moving west. When we encountered the Sioux in the great lakes area they then went further west to the Great plains, We were still Chippewa the name Sault came later along with the French
