  • Incredible times ! Incredible composers and musicians

  • John Evan is incredible on this album! It would not even be even close to as amazing an effort as it is without him!

  • If I came to be a wise man then surly I don't know.

  • This song is genius, Jethro Tull is amazing.

  • Going to see the Thick as a Brick tour in April

  • Thick as a brick is the perfect song for assholes roaming the borough like termites in lenny's ratpack.

  • choose the color of the day..........Orange!

  • I feel deep pity for ndogg20 whatever that silly pseudo may mean. Nobody's putting a gun to your head, right ? Self indulgent indeed. And still a sap, it seems. Poor boy...

  • @viennachan1 ndogg20 truly doesn't deserve to listen to prog rock.

  • spareplanet--It's in 5/4,dude.

  • Geez what meandering crap. Back then we would listen to anything without question. We were saps.Self indulgent souless meandering crap.

  • @ndogg20 this whole album was taking the piss out of shitty porgressive rock, makes me laugh everytime i hear it

  • @ndogg20 you're a fucking retard.

  • @ndogg20 So? Why do you care?

Theres millions of songs out there i do not care for, and plenty i despise. I do not make it my mission to seek them out.

  • @greencheapsk8 I consider this a puplic forum. After spending/ wasting most of my youth searching, buying and listening to pop music,i think im entitled to my opinion and this is as good a place as any to state it.

  • @ndogg20 Okay fair call. But why be aggressive , what good comes from it?

  • Jethro Tull was the first (Aqualung) album my friend and I got stoned to.

  • Here is a little trick for keeping time during the odd meter parts (such as 3:05 to 4:20)----- When you count, use "sev" instead of seven. (As in 1 2 3 4 5 6 sev 8 9, etc.

You will be able to figure out and keep up with the meter mjuch easier.

  • jethro tull's crowning achievment is this beautiful song

  • Nice prog song, :D

  • Jersey shore RULEZ!

  • i discovered Jethro Tull a week ago exactly, and my life hasn't been the same since. It has improved by miles and miles. It says a lot when you can say that just one band has changed everything for you.

  • @THEOogalieBoogalie

Check out Rush, Emmerson Lake & Palmer (ELP), Yes and Frank Zappa if you haven't. Just a suggestion.

  • @TheeKingOsiris

    Yup, good suggestions...

  • EL ARTE ES ARTE , LA CULTURA ES ARTE EN ESTADO NATURAL, LUCHA CONTRA LOS PODERES QUE NOS CONDUCEN COMO UNA SOCIEDAD NARCOTIZADA,SOLO LA INTELIGENCIA DE LOS SERES HUMANOS, SON CAPACES DE GENERAR ESTE RUIDO ARMONICO Y MARAVILLOSO, QUE ES LA MUSICA,LA PINTURA,LA LITERATURA ,EL DEPORTE,ETC ETEC,COMBATE GERRILLEROS DEL MUNDO

  • I Watch this every other time i get drunk. I would every time but roomate has started making fun of me lol. It's my #1 song ever. Possibly my favorite story ever too.

  • Ah! To be thick as a brick :P

Fantastic! Thank you for posting this C:

  • Ah! To be thick as a brick :P

    Fantastic!

  • Now there's something you don't find in music anymore... DYNAMICS!!! thanks for posting!

  • This song just never gets boring... every minute is different and still awesome!

  • I dedicate this song to my Fiance' just cuz he's stubborn and he'll always be hard to appeal to. If that makes sense....

  • I love playing this on flute although it kills my fingers but it pleases my dad so i'm happy :)

  • Dude, I saw fire coming out of my friend's finger when we were camping and he played this song on the guitar...ok, we 'd smoke a huge one. But it is still just pure magic, just listen to it! It take you places...

  • oh man, being 14 reading all the "newspaper", little milton and all that, amazing with the record on, golden.

  • i still dont get it , what's the coolest thing ? anderson vocals?

The guitar player is really great btw.

  • Anyone know why YouTube only has an autocomplete for "jethro tull THIS as a brick", and nothing for the real title? Almost seems like someone has pulled something, because there is no way that many people mistake the title for that :P

  • @dacypher22 ha. That's funny

  • One of my favorite vynils.

  • You had to be there...otherwise you don't appreciate the situation that was the 60's/70's. I don't mean to be elitist, but that is the bottom line. The rest is fantasy about a time that only exists in your imagination.

  • almost have every line memorized!!

the day i'm able to sing along to the entire song on my own, my life will be complete.

  • @funnyhead222 Next challenge is to be able to sing along to all the instrumental bits... keep living!

  • Not just one of the greatest pieces of music ever composed, but one of the best bass and organ songs ever in rock and roll...

Of course not mentioning that UNIQUE flute, almost a concerto, bringing a little melody to every little part inside the song. Not just the genius Ian Anderson, but also awesome, awesome musicians...(and i am not mentioning Martin Barre, the progressive Jimmy Page, because it woud be cowardy)

Jethro Tull,an homnage to Music,to art,to the spirit

  • "AND THE MAN ONCE SAID ABOUT THE DAY MUSIC WAS ART..."

  • But, is he crescent fresh? You can bet your sweet ass he is.

  • Damn my copy has so much wear that the whole begining up until the 3minute mark is just drown out with scratchiness. i geuss its time to trade my 40yr old record for a cd haha.

  • True Music! IM felling like in 90'

    YEEEAAA

  • @Ciotirix This song was released in 1972.

  • @Ciotirix Musically oblivious 8th grader

  • i have died at 5:12 :):):) amazing:)

  • I AM 17 AGAIN IS THAT A GOOD THING YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS

  • Thanks for uploading this beauty.

  • it feel like a vagina in my ear when i listen to this ! Grrrrrrrrrrrreat !

  • @tonysztuka As much as I am delighted that we agree about this music being amazing, I must admit that I am horrified by your "vagina in my ear" analogy ...

  • @tonysztuka As much as I am delighted that we agree about this music being amazing, I must admit that I am horrified by your "vagina in my ear" analogy ...

  • @kangarooblond LOL!!

  • @kangarooblond We all respect your right to be horrified, but with all due respect, that's no one's problem but yours. Thank God, the PC police/censors do not rule YouTube!!!!

  • You know I REALLY wanted to like this album this beginning( and a few select other parts throughout) are really enjoyable. I'm a huge Progressive Rock fan, but my God I'll be damned if there's anything more mind numbing than listening to this song all the way through. All the good parts of this "Epic" could be included ten fifteen minutes tops. What a Bummer.

  • @TheCrimsonCamel I disagree, every part of this for me is unforgetable, great melody hooks, instrumental composition, perfect album, but you're allowed not to like it. You could always listen to alternative cuts to the songs, there's a 20 minute minute version as well.

  • @Pasalaqcua In retrospect I admit probably more like the whole Side 1 with select parts from Side 2 I would've enjoyed more. My personal favorite album would have to be Yes's " Relayer" but to each his own my friend. Long live Prog Rock!

  • @Pasalaqcua while i love this song, its only good for about 12-15 of the first side then it gets pretty repetive. So then i put on some Yes

  • @3R1CtheRED You just have a short attention span I guess.

  • @Pasalaqcua lol no i trust me its just that after a while it doesnt add anything new like most "long songs" do

  • boo "fernandos next gen" sucks brooooooo

i went to there last show and the lead singer totally killed my first born child monty, and to top it off he raped his son in in his own dungeon!

  • @Kingpinz0r shut up faggot you dont know shit

  • Jethro Tull is for everyone who has good taste in music. No matter where you're from.

  • Long version is the best version

  • love to hear this in my ears

  • 5 people are not crescent fresh !!

  • 5 people are thick as a brick.

  • gracias : )

  • @artsychic2000 jethro tull is not for mexicans

  • @illuminatiwatchin im mexican, and im currently playing this song in a cover band, sadly the short edit version, but still, we love this song :D

  • @resonaire a mexican cover band thats hilarious

  • @illuminatiwatchin yeah, sounds kinda off, but i'm serious, we love classic rock, here we even have a couple vids uploaded here in youtube, sure it'll be like the real legends, but still, our tribute. Look us up "Fernandos Next Generation"

  • My favorite Tull piece.

  • Well simply the best poetic acoustical minstrel on the planet!..not to mention his soarinf flute passages and breathy performance of 150% total musical genius effect put into every song & Piece of music...bravo to Tull and Ian Anderson..I wish this music was still currently going on today in the main spotlight and not this pop carp Ga Ga junk of useless performances of music, who are wannabe dancers and figures of what ever the label markets them as..So will the real Musicians..Please stand up!!

  • HOLY SHIT IF YOU PLAY THIS SONG IN REVERSE IT SAYS GEORGE W. BUSH IS SATAN ITS TRUE TRY IT.

  • @queefbreath HOLY SHIT you must be American, "THICK AS A BRICK"

  • @rorymufc09 HOLY SHIT IF YOU REVERSE THAT COMMENT YOU JUST MADE IT SAYS MY NAME IS RORYMUFC09 AND I DONT GET JOKES

  • @queefbreath Holy shit, you type in all caps because you're desperate for attention, more than likely deriving from a childhood filled with neglect and sorrow.

  • @queefbreath You're a moron!

  • LSD

  • i always liked this one, some of the critics didnt

  • lil gerald boy genius!

  • lil gerald bostock wrote this. like this if you know what im talking about

  • @kingjohnthe3rd I want to know what little Gerald was doing with those two smoking women. Worldly little chap. btw I have stuffed Penguins for sale.

  • Quando escuto J. Tull , Wishbone Ash,E.L Palmer ,sinto saudades da Radio Fluminense (94.9) de Niterói, que era a única que tinha coragem de por músicas de 10 minutos (ou mais ). Good times...

  • im 22 and learned the first half of this song on flute when i was a kid by ear although i mostly play b flat clarinet :-] when i was a kid, prob about 9 yrs ago? then that hyundai commercial came out with this song when i was in junior high! I recognized it but none of my friends did! look it up! anyhow, good times..wish i could be a flute rockstar!

  • Wow!

    I think I did´nt hear this one 4 over 20 years...

    THX 4 the upload!!!

  • This is Procol Harum highspeed

  • I can remember being totally stoned listening to this album and having to get up to turn it over to listen to the other side

  • That's why the 8 track tape was such a technological breakthrough ;-)

  • Most beautiful, creative masterpieces of all time!

  • The flute part is just amazing. I can't even express how it hits me.

  • I really wish this album could be re-recorded in the studio today with modern equipment. The recording quality available back then was passable but not stellar. There is a "muddy" feel to those older albums from the 70's.

  • Imagine the full thing being played in concert!

  • @samness7 I saw them in 1977 It was just amazing.

  • #1 in Australia (on the Kent Report) for 18 weeks in 1972

  • MASTERPIECE,PERIOD!

  • I like the part starting at 5:12 and going onwards, with the flute and piano, then "The poet and the painter, casting shadows on the water." until the end of that section.

  • 45 minutes of this?

  • the death of satan is the o d a of the world and to find me i am the chosen one

  • if i could i would take you away to skate away from the wicth asking can't you see

what were are doing then christ sees in to the light and discontinues no fait dies

    in are arms

  • The first record i bought from Jethro Tull in 1983

  • The day that "artists" such as Enimen, Jay-Z, and Diddy write something this brilliant is the day I'll give them their props. Just sayin'...

  • Iconic.

  • Name one band that could compose and perform a piece of music like this today??? Music truly is not what it used to be...

  • @swordplay1588 Porcupine Tree is the only one that comes to my mind.

  • @randomscience1 hardly

  • @khetnhio Hey to each his own. I love Tull. But PT could easily do the same, and have. Take care

  • Good tune.

  • The Flute bands like Tull, Moody Blues, Marshall Tucker, Mama's and Papa's all hit me like Krishna Himself

  • Pure Tull brilliance! Nice to see these songs here... Thx for posting!

  • this i just simply outstanding

the whole album is just fantastic

  • fucking rock

  • Damn this song is epic

  • Good upload but why in mono, stereo would have been great

  • little milton's epic poem!

  • I loved this back when it came out in the 70's. My friends and I would look at each other in class and say "This is the story the hare who lost his spectacles!"

I saw Tull in concert in NC in 1975.

  • Awesome :D

  • Nothing compares to the music created between 1967 and 1975

  • the sound is epic

  • aaaahhhhh, Barriemore Barlow.... and friends.... :)

  • Excellent!

  • LOL im learing how to play this on the flute and its hardcore awomse

  • Wow! My favourite Tull-opus! It almost makes me cry when I hear this first part! This tune, melody with flute, piano, guitar and Ian's voice!! The most beautiful melody I've ever heard!

  • I really miss the era from which this music came form ! Gosh ! I was so blown away seeing these guys in the Long Beach Auditorium in 1972 ! WOW!

They sounded as good if not better in live concert than the well-engineered record did.....!

...."and the poet and the painter,

  • awesome song from an awesome band

  • it's not a song, it's a rock opera...

  • HELLZ YEAH

  • best jethro tull ever

  • such great lyrics

  • Spin me back down the years and the days of my youth....

  • @languagedancer

All the way back to 1974, I am 15 years old and this is my first live show. Have a 17 year old girlfriend, sack full of weed and $20 in my pocket. LIfe was grand!

  • @dixieflsts

I'm of the same age as you , but I saw them for the first time in 1975

the only trouble was the lack of weed - we just had beer ... great though ;-)

  • Jethro Tull was an ancient pictish battlesite in England. These guys defined the 70s for me. What a delight to get to hear this again! Thanks!

  • I'm pretty sure they took their name from the man who invented the seed drill

  • @ZACfromSCB so awesome. pretty much the most random person a rock band could name themselves after...

  • If you add &fmt=18 at the end of URL Address link, it plays it in Stereo. Damn Tull was the very first concert I ever went to back in 72. Cobo Arena Detroit, Nov. 8, 1972

They played this song for almost two hours, then played almost every song from Stand Up, Benefit and Aqualung. First and best concert. Tull went on at 9:00pm and finished at 1:00am. I know Ive said it a thousand times but I miss those days until it hurts. God, the memories just listening to this. Nothing Compares.

  • You are a good person.

  • @CerebrateHyatt hahaha, "you are a good person"??'

  • @nachospinelli hahaha i lold to

  • My first concert also...Mamoth Gardens Denver...

Amen to every one of your words

  • too true....the best time for music creation...cheers buddy and keep listening!

  • @Longshotsblues AMEN

  • Einfach Top!!

    Aber kennt halt nicht jeder!!!

    SUPERSOUD!

    Thanks a lot!!!
