Santorm is the sort of person who, I believe, would have supported banning persons of different races from marrying, as the popular interpretations of the Bible at the time supported that belief.
The ELCA Lutheran Church in America is a Protestant Christian Church which welcomes all people, as Jesus did. Equal rights for all people IS a Good Christian Value!
@AMarcinP I'm really sorry, I did make a mistake there. The Bible says not to eat shellfish, have any contact with a woman during her period, or wear cotton/polyester blends. The sun thing is from something else. Sorry for the confusion.
So I can't say, for example, that for 2000 years of the Christian religion was bigoted because it believed women should be subservient to men and were responsible for causing all sin and being inferior because they were made from man?
Why do these hardcore "christians" pick and choose what they want to believe in the Bible? The BIble also says that I can sell my daughter into slavery, hair trimming is forbidden, you can't wear two different types of threads in garments, eating shellfish is an abomination, etc..... Why of all these out of date things do they choose to still focus on this one thing in a book FULL of do's and don'ts?
I would also like to say that I am a catholic and believe that gay marriage is wrong, and that if it is legal, the government cannot force a priest, pastor, minister, or any other religious person to perform a marriage. Therefore any gay marriage would not be recognized by most churches, only by the states.
Regardless of what the bible teaches, it has no effect on whether or not it should be legal or illegal in the united states. The united states preaches separation of church and state, this means that religious beliefs should not interfere with lawmaking, governing, etc. The united states were founded on the belief of freedom to do, say, feel, believe whatever you wanted. There is no reason other than religious beliefs to deny gays from being married, so there is no reason for it to be illegal.
Christianity is made up of people who agree with the church but you can bet your ass that I won't wake up early on Sundays. America; where the rights are made up and the constitution doesn't matter.
@UrTalkingToKory It is not made up. Christianity is based on one main belief: Jesus Christ died on the cross to forgive us of our sins and to give us eternal life.
I give Him thanks for this, because I don't deserve to go to heaven. Without Jesus, I am just a sinner like everyone else. But with Him, I can conquer all sins. I give Him the credit for helping me be a better person morally.
There are way too many plot holes in Christianity for it to be taken seriously. Have you ever used critical thinking on the topic of religion? I'm not going to waste my time listing key points in the bible that are obviously incorrect (although I could do it all night, believe me),
You can believe whatever you want, but the first amendment of the U.S constitution says "Congress shall make no law with respect to any religious establishment"
@roxas12590 I apologize if I have offended you. I watched your video, and you seem like a nice person and you have a lovely voice. It makes me sad how you are so far from the truth.
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord." I am being selfish if I don't share God's gift with you. If I could take my own life to make you believe, then I would.
@NATEG01 "I apologize" DON'T APOLOGIZE TO ME , apologize to the millions of loving couples who thanks to people like you must live there lives as second class citizens. try helping to fix it!
@NATEG01 "how you are so far from the truth." there you go again with baseless assertions with no evidence. ignorance does nothing to further progress. all you do is hinder it
@NATEG01 "What do you have to lose by accepting Christ into your life?" logic ,reason, and a true understanding of the universe based on facts and evidence. I can ask you the same question. all I have to do is substitute the same of the prophet or deity, there are thousands of religions and belief systems, none with a single shred of evidence for there faith or to counter known science. once again GROW UP
@NATEG01 i was once also an indoctrinated christian, but i broke the bonds that religions place upon the human mind, and let me tell you, there is a whole world out there that actually makes sense. without being biased by god, i have been able to pursue knowledge in all fields unrestricted and unbiased. and ive become a more tolerant human being and accepting of human nature, which homosexuality is included in. an alternative aspect in human nature.
I forget the saying; something like "the right for you to swing your fist ends where my nose begins." If you're not gay, don't get married. FUCK YOU, Rick Santorum.
this idiot,.the bible also says stone your kids if they don't obey you,..why isn't he doin it? Also, the bible endorses slavery why isn't saying people should have slaves? he's just a bigot point blank period!
"Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ".Ephesians 6:5
"If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he can not be my disciple". Luke 14:26 All who curse their father or mother must be put to death. They are guilty of a capital offense. Leviticus 20:9
@Atheist603 You must understand that slavery weas voluntary back in ancient times. Poor people would become slaves to get shelter and food in exchange for labor.
Luke 14:26 isn't leteral. It's implynig that you have to put Jesus as your #1 priority if you want to follow him.
Leviticus 20:9 is the Isrealite's law, which we no longer have to follow. Hebrews 8:13-By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.
@lecagot2 you know what you are right, this is a christia country, its like europe 300 years ago and peopl take the bible literally..how sad i thought americans where better than this
@lecagot2 "but it IS a Christian country " majority opinion holds no weight on the constitution, simply because the majority wants it doesn't make it right. that's what the constitution is for, to protect freedom even when it's unpopular. and the treaty of tripoly signed by Jefferson and ratified by congress states the united states is by no means a christian nation. try again
funny thing is anyone who thinks he is a bigot is a bigot. you want to be gay and want someone to respect you and then you are the bigot......please gays.....go get some counceling. have you ever noticed with the gay movement the last 5 years we have to accept opinions and cover-ups. today you have to be a psychologist to know about it. people go to school and get a degree and dont know shit. most of them read a book as they still go along.
"we dont give bigots preferential tax treatment" he is saying he doesn't want to be classified as a bigot because he wants preferential tax treatment. DAFUQ? equal taxes anyone?
Why do religion industry nut cases only fight over the parts of the bible that the religion industry tells them to fight about? Their bible also says you should sell your daughter into slavery, marriage is for life - no divorce never, women should always remain silent and sub-serviante to men, you should never eat any shell fish (yep - lobster and shrimp included), you should never wear wool with any other textile of fabric...and endless of other insane nonsense. Google Santorum a new word.
2,000 years of Christian sheepish-slave bigotry supports Santorum, 10,000 years of Pagan living and hunter-gatherer lifestyle before support an oppeness to gray areas and alchemy in life, including inter-gendering and the homosexual act.
@lecagot2 Meditteranean Paganism did not. Perhaps the exception is the pre-Henotheist Jews who, if they are who they claim to be and lived where they claimed to live, were the exception. North German religion, according to Bulfinch frowned on the Homosexual Act; however the dispute really lies in scholarly journals and I have yet to resubscribe to Jstor. Peace.
@MushroomedAnymore In 1967 the Supreme Court ruled the state of Virginia could no longer keep persons of different races from marrying; it was a felony for a white person to marry non-whites. This is an example of the "miscegenation" laws which were common in the United States through the mid-20th century. These laws were inspired, passed and defended on authority of then-popular interpretations of the Bible. Gay people are real human beings too, and deserve equal rights.
@MushroomedAnymore My comment was simply one of making an observation; certainly not to undermine you in any way. I could tell where you were coming from, and agree whole-heartedly.
Religions are organizations where ignorant gullible people can support their irrational views, behaviors and wishes by direct approval of others who share their callow fantasy and mental inability.
Religious freedom is the protected rights of both organized superstition and its devout followers to force their bronze age morals, rules and laws upon all of society for their selfish desires, prejudices and the countless personal interpretations of what they believe their god would demand of them if he existed.
@10001dev How is he being bigoted? I happen to love heavy metal music. Let's say you hate heavy metal. Would that mean you're a bigot? This is an attempt at trying to make the gay agenda (and that's exactly what it is) look like the civil rights struggle of the 1960's. Homosexuality is a moral issue not a civil one.
on that thinking then the Catholic church is a group of people who believe 1 thing but doesnt mean its evidence. thank you for making the point for us you Bigoted ass
kNIGHTS OF MALTA AND THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS NOT CHRISTIAN,IVE STUDIED THE KNIGHTS OF MALTA AND IT IS SATANICCCCCCCCC!!! BUDDY, READ THE OATH IT TALKES VOLUMES OF HATE!!!!! IT SPEAKS AGAINST CALVINST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WHICH IS THE TRUE CHRISTIANITY!! SO JUST SAYING SANTORUM , NOT WELCOME IN CALIFORNIA!!!!
@reformedbro1 Are you serious, the Catholic Church is the one true church made my Jesus Christ himself. Catholicism can be traced back to the first pope which was Peter... Protestant churches were made from people who couldn't follow Catholic rules, don't take down the Catholic faith because you disagree with a Catholic. Honestly, it is very immoral to be gay, and if you want society to not continue then go be gay you faggot. Oh and fuck California its an embarrassment to the US.
@MrBradenc IT is not the true church of JESUS CHRIST, praying to the virgin mary, praying to saints, the apocrypha,is all Heresy and goes against Sola scriptura!! the catholic church is mentioned in the bible as the great harlot whore,of the anti christ!! ayes and gay homosexulality,is forbidden and is a abomination in the eye of the LORD JESUS!!so learn somthing ,the true church is the Protestant, LUTHER broke away from the papacy, becuase the heresies!! you do not now anything!! LOL
@MrBradenc before you open up your mouth mister no nothing at all my father is a ex knight, it is satanic, which struck me to study it!! it is a scotish rite off shoot of freemasonry, and the catholic the catholic chruch worships dagon ,and the sun!!! hahah your uneducated!! Peter was not the first pope idiot!!! the bible says no one comes to the father accept through the son JESUS, not the vigin !!!
So he's saying that the American Psychological Association is biased? That they only collect data and do surveys on matters they want answered? That the end result and topic at hand is arbitrary? Come on... everyone knows you're making that shit up. They have evidence and results and he's still denying them? See that's the problem... say tomorrow, scientists have hard evidence to disprove the existence of god, every religious person is still going to be in denial and call it heresy.
@drumgroovy The APA, the NASA, the National Research Council, the American chemical society, the American institute of physics, the American physical society, American Geophysical Union, American Institute of Biological Sciences, etc. etc. are all liberally biased according to Santorum. They're just expressing their opinion on things like evolution, climate science, sociology, psychology, science is what happens when you fold your hand in a church.
@TheSngcoach Yeah exactly. Those institutions aren't there for advancements and discovery, they're just there because of people with opinions who want to reinforce their views... according to Rick. How flawed is that view? How is he even a politician?!
Let's not run from a religious debate. Let's attack the institution of religion head on..not the people the institution, you know the inquisition, the child raping bishops, the Salem witch trails,
If you eat GMO's(every vegetable at the store) then your going to hell just like homosexuals. Just a few verses before it calls gays an abomination it calls "mixing" seeds an abomination also.
@valstar1000 "A lot of psychologists just want money and end up ruining lives." Churches just want money, they end up ruining lives (sex with little boys anyone?) and they don/t have to pay taxes on it.
@bwelc00 All churches target little boys to have sex with. Right? They don't send out teams of missionaries to aid the hungry and dying in third-world countries or help build hospitals and homes as well? Sure the scandals make the front-pages for the media-drones to feed on and make stereotypes, but the great things people do never make the news. This applies to everything, not just Christians/churches.
@MrXtheManimal You know that sending out those people to aid the hungry is indoctrination right? In some countries in Africa, homosexuality is punishable by DEATH. That's what those missionaries brought with them... bigotry and discrimination. Kinda ironic, coming from Africa.
@MrXtheManimal Oh by the way, I'm not saying the missionaries put those policies in place, I'm talking about indoctrination to a point where they'd follow the book to a tee.
@drumgroovy I understand. Btw ty for not being rude lol. Yes people do take "the book" and interpret it different ways. I wish this wasn't so.but the act of one should not define the rest.
@MrXtheManimal I normally am not rude. People just make me rude. I'd rather have a discussion than an argument, especially when it comes to topics like these.
@drumgroovy I can tell you that policies have been changed because a government official witnessed miracles being done in the name of God thus changing their hearts completely.
@MrXtheManimal Alot of psychologists save people's lives and turn them around. The good works that churches do come with a dark side that is as bad as anything anyone ever does short of murder, and sometimes ranks right up there with it. They want you to believe impossible nonsense, they tell you you will burn for all eternity if you don't (and they say this to little kids as soon as they can understand it). And on top of all that, they expect people to shut up and not question
@MrXtheManimal anything they say if it comes out of the big book of fairy tales. That's the "moral ecology of America." This fucking low-life scumbag says that scientific studies are matters of opinion, and talking snakes, virgin births, and world wide floods where an old man puts two of everything in earth into a boat to survive are facts. Religions for the most part are dangerous, because of idiots like Santorum and the anti-intelluctual climate they create.
@bdog10123 Nope. Catholics do not agree with Lutherans. Muslims do not agree with Jews. Catholics and Lutherans do not agree with Muslims and Jews. etc
He discredits the American Psychological Association's work due to the fact that it does not satisfy his personal (not to mention, absurd) belief. Classic.
@valstar1000 What is marriage for? Is it not a legal union between adults recognized by government? I think hes implying he adheres to the values of the absurd belief of an imaginary friend.
"An organization supporting a position is not evidence that it benefits society."
An organization such as a church supporting a position such as being against homosexuality is not evidence that such a position benefits society. Stop contradicting yourself, santorum.
I despise this man. People who rely on a 2000 year old book for evidence shouldn't be allowed to use the "It's just an opinion!" argument. What a fool.
It's like he can't even hear himself. Belonging to a group with similar ideas is " proof that a group of people agree with you. That's all it's proof of." Bu of course that logic doesn't apply to him. Of course HIS group has say so. But no-one else.
WTH is sohard to get about this nextsentence.THE BIBLE DOES NOT/NOR SHOULD IT EVER BE INVOLVED IN THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT! That's one of the biggest reasons we declared independence from England.HELLO

- If something has been believed for a long time, that means it can't be bigoted
- If something is supported by the Catholic Church, it's not bigoted
- If an organisation of professionals delivers a professional opinion, that opinion carries no special weight
- Psychiatric expertise is hereditary
- When asked for evidence, delivery of evidence does not count as an answer
- Providing counter-evidence is not necessary; attacking the evidence provider will suffice

Texagfan12 1 day ago

UrTalkingToKory 1 day ago

I know my rights. This isn't a theocracy.

Leviticus 20:9 is the Isrealite's law, which we no longer have to follow. Hebrews 8:13-By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.

@MushroomedAnymore Not true. Most pagan religions frowned on homosexuality.
lecagot2 1 day ago
@lecagot2 Meditteranean Paganism did not. Perhaps the exception is the pre-Henotheist Jews who, if they are who they claim to be and lived where they claimed to live, were the exception. North German religion, according to Bulfinch frowned on the Homosexual Act; however the dispute really lies in scholarly journals and I have yet to resubscribe to Jstor. Peace.
MushroomedAnymore 1 day ago
@MushroomedAnymore In 1967 the Supreme Court ruled the state of Virginia could no longer keep persons of different races from marrying; it was a felony for a white person to marry non-whites. This is an example of the "miscegenation" laws which were common in the United States through the mid-20th century. These laws were inspired, passed and defended on authority of then-popular interpretations of the Bible. Gay people are real human beings too, and deserve equal rights.
